1986 Toyota Celica Gt Only 121k Original Miles 5 Speed Manual on 2040-cars
Orange, Virginia, United States
I bought this car about a month ago to fix up a bit and drive. In the meantime I went out of state and while I was out of state, a friend decided to buy a NEW car and offered me their old Nissan Maxima at a good price. Therefore before I do anything or spend more money, this car is back on the market. It drives very well, the inspection is expired so when I drove it, it was on back roads with an illegal plate but it drives well, the A/C works and has already been converted to R134, there is a sticker in place. You can drive it now, the big worry is the radiator over a lengthy drive, if you replaced that it could drive anywhere. I DO NOT KNOW much about the history of the car other than what the AUTOCHECK says, so if you choose to drive it, you would need to check all fluids as you go to be careful. Probably towing would be better ( I borrowed a tow dolly and brought it about 100 miles myself to get it here) Other than a scrape on the passenger rear quarter and a needed clean up, the car is in remarkable aesthetic condition. Mechanically this is what I KNOW it needs ( it may need more BUT I am selling as is). This is what I know....it needs tires, a radiator, and the control for the hot/cold fixed in the dash ( right now it is a cable you move by hand to control it and it works that way}, I have NOT investigated what it needs back there to hook it back up. I have seen a couple of these cars on eBay for way more than I have this one listed. It may need other things as well, BUT I am being honest, I have not investigated more than what I have said, so I stress, I am selling as is no warrany. Text me with questions or more pics, or if you want to see it, I will be tied up all of July 4th, other than that, we can work something out for you to see it! It runs well, drives well, clutch seems strong. As I want to make clear, I bought it to fix up and drive, I am re-selling just because the Maxima I was offered was nicer and at a great price. I am pretty handy and have fixed up many 92-01 Camrys, this car and engine et al looked very similar, so I was was figuring with my labor, checking it over, fixing the dash temp control, getting a radiator, for under $400 I could fix it up and drive it for years ( that is with my doing the labor) then you have a great gas mileage little Toyota with only 121K. Until I got the Maxima, that was my plan! Anyway email me with any questions or if you want more pictures!!! Manual windows and locks, like I said it needs a good cleaning, but I have seen MUCH worse, it seemed pretty zippy on my short test drive, the clutch seems good, engine runs well. Hit the buy it now, the reserve is lower than the BIT but not by much, and for under a grand, you have a car that will a little tweaking, can last for years tp drive or for some one to learn to drive a stick shift!!! Nothing better than driving a manual I say, at least in country driving like what I do!

Pickup sales may hit 2M units for first time since 2007
Sat, 21 Sep 2013Even as fuel prices creep back up, trucks are still a hot item among new-vehicle shoppers. To see how popular pickup trucks still are, you don't have to look any further than how much effort automakers put into the continual one-upmanship of their trucks. Backing this fact up, USA Today is reporting that the segment could top two million sales this year - a total not matched since 2007, though still far from the pre-recession, three-million-unit levels.
Through August, the Ford F-Series continues to be the segment leader with almost 500,000 units sold, but the Chevy Silverado (328,269), Ram 1500 (234,642), GMC Sierra (122,232) and Toyota Tacoma (110,293) are all seeing at least 20-percent sales increases, helping to account for around 1.44 million truck sales so far this year - not including possible outliers like the Suzuki Equator and Chevy Avalanche.
This year alone, General Motors has completely redesigned its fullsize trucks, Ram and Toyota have significantly updated their offerings, the next-gen Ford F-150 will be out next year and Nissan is promising an all-new Titan around the same time with an eventual Cummins diesel under the hood. It would seem, then, that truck sales are poised to continue their upward trend.
Toyota profits up 23% on high US sales, despite mounting legal costs
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Toyota earned $9.3 billion in net income in the financial year that ends next month. The number beats earlier forecasts and marks a five-year high for the automaker, with both operating income and revenue up by 9.5 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Toyota saw quarterly profit enjoy a year-on-year jump of 23.4 percent, with the manufacturer earning more than $1 billion between October and December 2012. The good news comes in spite of the fact that the Japanese automaker actually endured an operating loss in North America, due in part to legal fees.
Toyota is set to pay more than $1 billion to owners who claim their vehicles decreased in value as a result of the company's recent spate of recalls. Even so, all three of the automaker's brands enjoyed a 13.5 percent sales increase in the US in the last quarter, beating the industry average. Toyota faltered in Europe, however, where it earned $99 million in operating profit last year, compared to $111 million in 2011. You can take a closer look at the company's full press release below for more information.
Australia may offer money to keep Toyota making cars there
Tue, 04 Jun 2013In the wake of last month's announcement that Ford will cease automotive and engine production in Australia after 2016, many are wondering what the country's other automakers will do. Holden has already confirmed it will stay the course despite Ford's exit.
Much of the GM subsidiary's reason for sticking around has to do with a deal made last year between Holden and the Australian government. In order to secure a GM investment of $1 billion and a commitment to keep manufacturing in Australia through 2022, the government threw in an extra $215 million. According to Australia's Minister for Innovation and Industry, Greg Combet, the government is now in talks with Toyota for a similar deal.
Toyota operates one plant in Australia, the Altona manufacturing and engine plant in Victoria. The facility produces the Camry, Camry Hybrid and Australasia-only Aurion for both the local market and export. The report from GoAuto indicates that negotiations with the Australian government would include adding production of a third, all-new model at Altona, possibly the new RAV4, because it shares many parts with the Camry.
