1985 Celica Convertible with extremely low 46,xxx miles.
There were only 4 to 5 thousand of these made ever; a handful in 1984 and the rest in 1985. I only know of one or two other with fewer miles. This is the first 'official' Celica convertible year and also the last year that Celicas had rear wheel drive. I've had it for about 5 years and have driven it only during the summer, maybe 2,000 miles per year. It runs great and I've loved driving it - I'm just making room for a different vehicle. This is the second one of these I've owned; I really liked the first one but it was really beat up and couldn't pass up getting this one with its low miles. When I bought it, it had just been restored to working order after many years of sitting and had been retired from the DMV records. It was given a paint job as part of that restoration. Overall, it's in really nice shape: - The upholstery is all intact. Rugs also. No cracks in the dash. - No rust. - A brand new top and headliner were professionally installed in 2012. The hydraulic system to raise and lower the top works fine. - The radio is a 5 year old Kenwood with aux / usb in; I kept the original radio / tape desk as well. - The 3 piece fiberglass parade boot is in nice shape. These are a bit more rare than the car itself. - I have an extra set of seat belts for it. They were only made for this one year, so when I got the chance to get a backup set I jumped on it. - Tires are maybe 4 years old but have only been driven on less that 10K miles. - I put a new muffler and catalytic converter on it when I got it. On the down side: - It leaks some motor oil (it does not burn oil at all). My mechanic said just drive it that way. Seems like it's leaking less lately, maybe an old seal is reseating after that long sit? No other leaks. - There's a couple of dings, none too bad. - A/C doesn't work. I've never tried to fix it - it's a convertible. - The mirrors could be painted. The ones that came on it looked good but didn't work mechanically, so I replaced them with working ones. I believe I still have them as well. - Even with the new top on, it will leak some in moderate rain around the front corners. I've pretty much only driven it in nice weather. - The automatic radio antenna raises to different levels each time the car is turned on. - The paint job it last got was fine, but it could have used better prep in a few spots. That's about it. It's a cool, classic, rare convertible that's lots of fun to drive. |

Audi S4 drivers are the most accident-prone, insurance report says
Sun, Jun 25 2023Culling data from more than 4.6 million automobile insurance applications, researchers at the Insurify insurance comparison marketplace picked a winner — or more to the point, a loser — in its determination of the car model with the most accidents so far in 2023: the Audi S4. Why does the sporty, luxury-class German sedan rank so high (or so low)? The organization found that S4 drivers, piloting a car with almost 350 horsepower, are among those who collect the most speeding tickets, and that they get into accidents at a rate 54 percent higher than the national average. If the S4 isnÂ’t a surprise with an at-fault accident rate of 11.7 percent, consider the “family friendly” brand that appears three times on the Insurity list: Subaru. It is represented by three models, including the turbocharged WRX and XV Crosstrek, and at the better-performing bottom of the list, the Subaru Impreza, with an accident rate of 10.3 percent. In 2023, 7.6 percent of U.S. drivers were involved in at least one at-fault accident in the prior seven years. For drivers of cars on this list, the average at-fault accident rate was 10.5 percent, meaning these drivers are 1.4 times as likely to have an at-fault accident on record. According to its statement, the Insurity data science team explored key safety features, driver behavior, and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluations to pinpoint possible reasons behind these carsÂ’ high accident rates. Toyota mints 10-millionth vehicle in Kentucky
Fri, 30 May 2014In 26 years, from 1988 up to now, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky plant in Georgetown has built ten million vehicles - nearly enough for every citizen of Seoul, Korea or the nation of Hungary. The first car to roll off the line back when the claymation California Raisins were singing old Marvin Gaye hits and everybody wanted to know Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was a white Camry. The ten-millionth car to roll off the line among the Avalons and Venzas also produced there: a white Camry Hybrid.
Toyota has put $5.9 billion into the site since its inception, employment is up to 7,000 associates and will grow when Lexus ES350 assembly begins next year. Whereas car number one is a showpiece for the ages, one of the automaker's current associates will get to win the ten-millionth car in a blind drawing to be held this summer.

Next Lotus Elise to draw from its roots
Wed, Jul 27 2016Recently-appointed Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales told Autocar that work on the new Lotus Elise, which is coming in 2020, is already underway, and thanks to growing sales, the automaker is set to make a profit for the first time in 20 years. Gales also dropped some details about the new sports cars' design philosophy and underpinnings. According to the report, the new Elise will utilize the same aluminum chassis technology found in the original Elise and won't bear any resemblance to the 2010 Elise concept. Instead, the upcoming vehicle will uphold its roots with a lightweight design that emphasizes driver involvement at an affordable price. The new Elise is rumored to weigh in at roughly 1,984 pounds, almost 384 pounds more than the original Elise. In order to meet US crash ratings, the Elise will most likely be wider, but have the same length as the current model. Power will probably come from a Toyota unit producing between 134 horsepower and 245 horsepower. The Elise is expected to come to the US where it will be offered with a manual and automatic transmission, which will both come from Toyota as well. Gales claims Lotus has more orders now than in any year in the last 10 years, with the US being one of the automaker's most important markets. Related Video:
