Clear Title (it did have a rebuilt title at one time but now it is clear, eBay would not let me list the actual clear title for some reason). I have a 1987 Toyota extra cab (xcab) pickup truck with a five (5) speed manual transmission. Has four wheel drive with manual lockout hubs. I have kept this truck as clean as I could and the closest it got to off-road is dirt/gravel roads because it is a daily driver. Aftermarket rims with 31" tires. In October of 2004 I put a newly rebuilt longblock (motor and head) 22R motor from Autozone in it. When I had the motor out I put a new clutch kit in it. The motor swap cost around $2,000 just in parts. Over the years I have put on a new Weber 32 carburetor, New Offenhauser dual plane intake Manifold, new exhaust manifold, new catalytic converter back exhaust system, rebuilt alternator, rebuilt starter, new battery, used brush guard, New Pioneer compact disk player (Professionally installed), New pioneer speakers (professionally installed), rebuilt distributor, new fuel pump, new parking brake cable, new clear turn signal lights, New brake pads, new brake shoes, new wheel cylinders, New clear side marker lights, New altezza clear tail lights, new hoses (radiator, emissions, power steering), new belts, new power steering pulley, New spray in bed liner (needs to be touched up in some spots where it has come off over the years), new tailgate handle, new spare tire lowering system and jack, used skid plate underneath motor (newly painted), replaced the transmission/both differentials oil, new clutch fork boot, and Tow hooks up front, . There so many new parts on the truck I probably do not remember them all. When I added up everything I found I have around $5000 into the truck. Truck was primed gray and then painted blue (sorry I do not have pictures of the new paint at the moment). Frame has been painted black. Has a hookup (4 wire) for towing a trailer. Does not have a hitch receiver but it does have a place in the bumper for a tow ball. Has full size spare tire. The truck had air conditioning at one time but the compressor is not present now. Roll bar pictured does not come with truck. Has window vents that push the air into the cab making it feel a lot cooler than a regular window. Has a sliding back glass setup. The accident reported on 03/08/2007 was a low impact collision. I was driving straight down the road and a car pulled out of a gas station and hit the right rear tire. The only damage found was a few scuffs on the tire and the tire has since been replaced. Not sure why it had a rebuilt title at one time. I bought it with a rebuilt title and when I came back east they gave it a normal title. It has had no problems passing state inspections. Not sure what the mileage discrepancy was but the odometer works as it should and it appears to be the actual mileage. Has the typical Toyota bed rust (mostly on the sides of bed) where the seams come together. Frame is solid. Sold "As Is", "Where Is" because after all it is a 26 year old truck. No liens on this truck (free and clear title).

Hurricane Sandy cost automakers 15,000 vehicles, may have ruined up to 200k

Wed, 07 Nov 2012

Hurricane Sandy was the largest Atlantic storm in US history, and its total economic impact is just now coming into view. According to Automotive News, Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda are set to scrap around 15,000 new vehicles ruined by the storm. Nissan alone accounts for about 40 percent of those, with 6,000 Nissan and Infiniti models deeded "un-saleable" due to damage. The company saw 56 dealerships shuttered due to the storm, but 51 of those have since reopened.
Toyota, meanwhile, had some 4,000 vehicles at its Newark port facility, and of those, 3,000 may be scrapped. An additional 825 were dealer inventory when they were ruined. Honda and Acura dealers are reportedly sending 3,440 vehicles to the salvage yard. By comparison, Chrysler weathered the storm fairly well with 825 units destroyed, while Hyundai suffered only 400 lost units and Kia scrapped around 200.
As you may recall, Fisker also suffered some losses, and Automotive News reports the manufacturer saw 320 Karma models damaged beyond repair. Ford and General Motors have yet to come up with estimates, and no automaker has commented on the full cost of replacing the vehicles.

Watch this video diary of a 900-hp Toyota Supra build

Sat, 08 Jun 2013

If you've ever looked at a car with nearly 1,000 horsepower and wondered why anyone needs that amount of thrust, you may want to take a look at the video below. In it, one gentleman details his descent into Toyota Supra madness, starting with a pristine factory example and stumbling down the rabbit hole of modification. What makes this particular clip interesting is just how honest the owner is as he explains the evolution of his car. He doesn't just prattle off a list of parts like he's reading the menu at an IHOP.
Instead, he painstakingly pulls us through the car's growth, detailing each iteration and what pushed him to the next stage of the build every time. From this point of view, it looks less like someone walked into a shop and lit a massive stack of $100 bills on fire and more like a quasi-logical progression of events. Or at least it does to me. You can check out the build in the video below, complete with plenty of Fast and the Furious references and racing. Win, win, win.

Toyota launches new Pixis Epoch kei car in Japan

Sat, 12 May 2012

Kei cars may be small in size, but they're big business in Japan. The latest arrival to the category is the little hatch you see above, the Toyota Pixis Epoch.
It's the fourth vehicle produced by the Daihatsu division but sold under the Toyota brand. As with other keis, power comes from a 660cc engine. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission driving either just the front wheels or all four. In both configurations, the Pixis Epoch features a stop-start system that helps its emissions and fuel efficiency figures come in well below even the Japanese government's stringent standards.
The whole package measures just 3,395 mm (133 inches) long, 1,475 mm (58 inches) wide and 1,500 mm (59 inches) tall, but offers a relatively spacious and utile interior, plus a tight turning radius of just 4.4 meters. Pricing ranges from 795,000 to 1.2 million yen - that's less than $10,000 (and no more than $15k). Further details in the press release after the jump.
