Up for auction is a 1989 Toyota Dual Rear Wheel chassis-cab truck.  The frame, cab, and axles were factory built by Toyota with a 137" wheelbase and true dual rear wheels with a full floating rear axle.  The truck was purchased on e-Bay in June of 2006 from a bricklayer in New Jersey.  Either he or a previous owner had a Rugby electric over hydraulic dump mechanism installed between the frame and stake body.

The entire truck is 210" long, 67" tall, and 90" wide at the mirrors.  The stake body has inside dimensions of 106" long by 73" wide.

The engine was professionally rebuilt in late 2006 by a Toyota Master Tech including: NEW factory block and pistons; 3 angle valve job with resurfaced heads; new oil and water pumps; new timing belt, drive belts, and idler pulleys; new A/C pulley and clutch; new complete clutch assembly; and more.  The entire blue vinyl interior was removed and a gray cloth interior (with a couple small rips) from a V6 1 Ton was installed.  The much lower mileage but identical transmission from the 1 Ton was also swapped in.  Cruise control was installed.  Sturdy 110" ramps that store under the bed and a remote control electric winch were added to pull mowers, etc into the bed.  Sort of like a small flatbed tow-truck.

In 2010 spring leaves from a another chassis-cab were trimmed and added to make 6 leaves per side, allowing 3000 lb payloads to be carried.  Wood panels 24" high for transporting dirt; and 60" high with a tarp for catching wood chips were made.

Also that year, the cooling fan exploded due to a faulty fan clutch causing the dents in the hood and requiring replacement of the battery, washer reservoir, fan clutch, fan, radiator, and power steering pump.

Within the last 2 years the front upper control arms, muffler, horn, blower resistor, and brake master cylinder have been replaced and the front fenders and the welds at the rear of the cab have become rusty.

In May of 2013 the truck was rear ended which destroyed the trailer hitch and tore its mounting bolts through the frame.  The tail-light lenses were broken then taped.  The rear-most exhaust hangar was broken off.

The frame has developed serious rust problems; in particular the area around the front sway bar bracket is going fast.

Toyota and Subaru file patents for performance FR-S and BRZ

Wed, Nov 11 2015

People have longed for a more powerful version of the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, and Toyota GT86 since the triplets arrived on the market. So far, neither partner in the deal has launched a model to fully satiate that hunger. However, the Japanese patent office recently approved documents from Toyota for the design of a vehicle that looks just like the Subaru STI Performance Concept (pictured above). According to AutoGuide, the filing also gives Fuji Heavy Industries credit for the design. The STI Performance Concept debuted at this year's New York Auto Show as an early step in STI's attempt to expand its reach here. The BRZ-derived coupe featured a body with a ground-scraping front bumper, tweaked headlights, wider fenders, a massive rear wing, and diffuser with a center-exit exhaust. All of these elements also show up on the patent renderings. The concept was just as exciting under the hood because STI installed a 2.0-liter, turbocharged boxer four-cylinder from its GT300 racer, and upgrades for the chassis, suspension, and brakes came from the Japanese market's BRZ tS. While the coupe made hearts race, the company was clear it didn't necessarily plan to build the model. Patent filings aren't a guarantee for production, and even if this one does arrive in showrooms, it might not come to the US. That's because Subaru and Toyota have a history of creating Japan-exclusive versions like the tS or Style Cb. That being said, spy shots have revealed a camouflaged GT86 testing in Europe, and rumors indicate more power from the engine. Subie's boss has even confirmed the existence of a partnership to create a next-gen model. Related Video:

Toyota Me.We concept is a multifunction Tupperware car [w/video]

Wed, 24 Apr 2013

Not to be outdone by the Renault Twin'Z concept penned by Welsh designer Ross Lovegrove, Toyota has partnered up with French designer Jean-Marie Massaud to create the 2013 Toyota Me.We Concept. Unveiled at Le Rendez-vous Toyota in Paris, the Me.We Concept is an attempt to imagine a car that can be appreciated by owners across a wide variety of lifestyles while being courteous to the environment, too.
From a "Me" perspective, the concept is highly customizable with removable body panels, and even though it might look like just a small hatchback from the outside, Toyota claims it can also be used as a pickup (with an extendable rear panel), a convertible (with a neoprene roof panel) and even an off-road vehicle. As for the "We" part of the car, it's a fully electric vehicle with individual in-wheel motors and a battery pack mounted under the load floor. The concept has a weight of around 1,600 pounds kept low thanks to an aluminum chassis, but it also features renewable bamboo wood for the floor in addition to the fully recyclable polypropylene exterior body panels. Toyota projecting record profits, thanks in part to weak yen

Fri, Feb 6 2015

Toyota retained its global sales crown in 2014 by selling 10.23 million cars in the calendar year. As the positive number might suggest, the Japanese automaker is doing extremely well financially, too. Although, some tougher times might be on the horizon. Toyota recently released its financial figures for the three fiscal quarters running from April 1 through the end of December 2014. Net profit jumped an impressive 13.2 percent to 1.727 trillion yen ($14.7 billion) for that period. It could be the Japanese automaker's most profitable time ever when the fiscal year ends in March, if things keep going this way, according to The New York Times. Toyota's own profit forecast for the 12-month period is also up by 130 billion yen ($1.1 billion) to 2.13 trillion yen ($18.1 billion). One key to the company's success is the low value of the Japanese yen, because it allows Toyota to make more money on each vehicle the company sells abroad. The currency is now worth relatively less than any time since the early '70s, according to The New York Times. Despite the rosy financial numbers, actual sales have started to fall, albeit a very slight amount. Through the three fiscal quarters, the company sold 6.73 million cars, a drop of just 45,365 vehicles. Toyota also reduced its forecast for the fiscal year to 9 million units, rather than the original estimate of 9.05 million. According to The New York Times, the shrinking Japanese auto market and difficulty in China might mean losing the global sales lead next year. For the US, sales jumped 145,411 units from April through December to a total 2.1 million vehicles. Operating income reached $4.27 billion, nearly 50 percent more than last year, according to The New York Times. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Announces April – December 2014 Financial Results February 04, 2015 Toyota's global net income jumped 13.2 percent during the nine-month period (April 1– December 31, 2014) of the 2015 fiscal year. Global Financial Highlights: Global sales decreased by 45,365 vehicles to 6.73 million, with strong sales in North America and gains in Europe, offsetting decreases in Japan and other regions.
