1994 Toyota Supra Turbo - Dedicated Track Car 600hp on 2040-cars
Madison, Mississippi, United States
"Well sorted, dedicated track car - owned for past 10 plus years. No known damage, offs or excuses." I purchased this car from a friend that had shipped his car to Powerhouse Racing of Texas for a monster build. After many months he got the car back and did what most people do when it arrives back in their hands – looked for someone to sell it to as it wasn’t as interesting to own as it was to build. I took over this “drag queen” and removed the 6-point chromalloy cage, HKS triple clutch, huge turbocharger and high boost engine and started over. At least it had a brand new Toyota/Getrag V160 6-speed transmission and TRD LSD that were left over and kept. We used panel bonding to adhere the targa roof to the rest of the top and shipped it to Kirk Racing near Birmingham AL for a full DOM Steel roll cage including NASCAR bars on both driver and passenger sides and for the placement of the fuel cell. I asked for the “wife and kids plan” and got enough bars for two playgrounds precisely welded and reinforced shoehorned inside for a 4000 lbs car to crash at 100 MPH and hopefully walk away from. I then shipped the car to the famed Supra shop of Titan Motorsports in Orlando FL where Nero and his team mounted the seats, created the battery box, welded forced cooling plates onto the radiator and intercooler for maximum effect. They also did a nifty, low-drag cutouts job on the rear bumper, installed the J-spec gears in the diff, welded the steering column and mounted the battery disconnect. I then shipped the car to Performance Motorsports of Austin TX where Chris Johnson created a super sexy, high clearance and sweet sounding exhaust, custom brake ducts created, installed the catch can and modified the valve covers to accept larger crank vents to keep those high oil pressures from causing FMS failures. Back at home in Jackson MS is where the real work on taking all the base elements to the next level – fine tuning what was really needed to make such a beast thrive on some of the best road courses in North American. The engine was swapped for one with more torque and lower boost levels in mind, a smaller turbo sourced and a base tune on the AEM ECU. Track driving over the years has led me to change things that needed improvement or fixing including swapping pad combinations, creating a power steering cooler that would work and choosing the right fluids for the car. There was nothing more satisfying than showing up at a track day with your buddies, rolling the car out and almost never working on it other than swapping pads, wheels/tires and adding gas! Blasting by newer and more expensive exotics wasn’t too bad either! Hitting a “buck 70” on the back straights of Road Atlanta, smoking past full race car Porsche’s at Homestead or hanging with the Corvette gang at Barber is going to be missed but I’ve moved on to tracking motorcycles now … still it will be sad. I’ve got over $135,000 invested not including any maintenance. Don’t hesitate to contact me if I may be of help or to answer questions. I will deliver it in an enclosed trailer for FREE in a 400 mile radius with full payment.

Scion FR-S Convertible (in Toyota GT86 form) spied in South Africa
Fri, 15 Feb 2013Though the eventual existence of a convertible version of the Toyota GT86 (and its Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ versions for America) is a no-brainer, we've yet to get a glimpse of the real-deal car until now.
Spotted in Cape Town, South Africa, of all places, this completely undisguised GT86 convertible seems to be in a remarkably advanced state of development. The image seen here was obviously sniped from quite a distance and without the aid of a powerful lens, but we can still make out a production-ready looking piece of rear bodywork for the convertible top to hide away in, as well as a functioning trunk lid. It's hard to make out with any certainty, based on this evidence, but there does seem to be space retained behind the front seats for two, small rear chairs.
With the first car spotted, we'd expect to seem some more and better images of it flow through in the near future, and if not, Toyota has already confirmed a concept version for next month's Geneva Motor Show, dubbed FT-86 Open, so stay tuned. For now, click through to the FT86Club.com forum to have a slightly closer look at the images.
Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan recall 3.4 million vehicles for faulty airbags
Thu, 11 Apr 2013Most vehicle recalls that take place these days are a result of some problem that happens during the manufacturing process by the automaker, but as we see here, parts suppliers can also factor in to problematic safety issues. Automotive News is reporting that a total of 3.4 million vehicles produced by Japanese automakers between 2000 and 2004 are being recalled globally due to faulty airbags produced by an outside supplier, Takata Corp.
According to the report, vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda are being recalled because of passenger front airbags that do not inflate properly. Globally, Toyota is said to be recalling around 1.73 million cars including 510,000 in the US composed of Toyota Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia and Tundra as well as the Lexus SC430 for the 2001 through 2003 model years; this is the second time this year the 2003 Corolla and Matrix have been recalled for an airbag problem. Honda is recalling 1.14 million models, Nissan another 480,000 and Mazda 45,463. The article says that Takata supplied faulty airbags to non-Japanese automakers, but it did not specify which ones.
Honda and Toyota have released information on their own websites about the recall, while Nissan and Mazda have not yet commented. Read official press releases from Honda and Toyota, below, and look for updates as we have word from the others.
Toyota explains what names like Camry and Yaris mean
Mon, 20 Oct 2014Ever wonder where automakers get the names for their cars? You're not alone. The sitcom Seinfeld opened Episode 94 - the one where George Costanza buys a Chrysler LeBaron instead of a Volvo - with a bit about nameplates like Integra, Supra and Impreza. Toyota, clearly, is not exempt from choosing evocative but enigmatic names for its models, and now the Japanese automaker is taking us through the etymology of some of its nameplates.
Names like Supra may require no clarification, but what about Camry? That comes from the Japanese word kanmuri for Crown (which is, incidentally, the name of another Toyota sedan).
Yaris? According to the company, it's "an amalgamation of words from Greek mythology and German. In Greek mythology, 'Charis' was a symbol of beauty and elegance. Toyota swapped the 'Ch' with 'Ya' - German for 'yes' - to symbolize the perceived reaction of European markets to the car's styling."
