1994 Toyota Supra 6 Speed Targa (1128whp/876ft Lbs) on 2040-cars
Olympia, Washington, United States
A little back ground on the car: I purchased this car in February of 2012 while being deployed overseas. The block was built by Accelerated Performance and the head was built by Head Games (both very reputable in the Supra community). The end goal for this car was a 1000whp + street monster that was not completely torn apart, caged, and removed from the "streetable" category. I took delivery of the car in May of 2013 and began the quest for traction and utilizing the HP by ordering a Weld RT-S drag pack, cleaning it up, installing some little goodies, and retuning. The car made 1128whp 876ft lbs at one time while still Mods list: 1994 Supra 6spd targa, black interior 183,897km = 114,268 miles on chassis (original Canadian car) 6,000 miles on build ENGINE: Accelerated performance built 3.4L stroker engine (built by Don at Accelerated Performance) Titan billet main caps CP 9.5:1 CR pistons with upgraded wrist pins Carillo H-beam rods with carr bolts Brian Crower billet crank ARP 1/2 L19 head studs Headgames full race head with full ferrea valve train and +1 valves HKS 272 cams (S2's will make more power, planned on upgrading) Titan/ATI damper Unorthodox Racing cam gears Unorthodox Racing pulley set New coil packs Chrome valve covers with AN fittings to catch can Ross Racing maching intake manifold Virtual Works exhaust manifold Virtual Works 4.5" Down pipe and Mid pipe Tial 60mm wastegate Header and turbine housing ceramic coated black Virtual works upper and lower water necks Custom 4.5" garret intercooler with intercooler piping and v-bands to TB and compressor cover (can make more power with an ETS 5") Custom water pipe New water pump Koyo radiator Titan carbon fiber spark plug cover Custom catch can with -12 lines Garrett GT47-80R ball bearing turbo, polished with coated .96 hotside (can be converted to a 47-88) T6 black turbo blanket Custom chrome 5" intake pipe with blitz filter Billet EXHAUST: Virtual works 4.5 downpipe and mid pipe. There is easily $60k in modifications alone to duplicate this setup and that's not including the cars price nor the labor. CONS: - Exterior is an 8/10. Damage on front bumper, some stress cracks in the paint on the front if it and some damage on driver side underneath from losing a fender liner piece. Was going to replace with a '97-'98 front bumper and that's all it needs to be a 10/10. - Interior is an 8/10 minus a worn steering wheel and shifter panel. Trunk area is also stripped out. The interior is a steering wheel and a few dash panels away from being a 10/10 Buyer pays for and arranges shipping of the vehicle. Vehicle is sold as-is without warranty. Toyota delves into the history of its Land Cruiser
Fri, 06 Sep 2013One of the longest-produced, most widely distributed vehicles in all of automotive history is also one of its most rugged: the Toyota Land Cruiser. With 60 years of continuous production, 14 different model lines and thousands of variations of the Jeep-like sports utility vehicle, the Land Cruiser became a success worldwide and developed a cult following among enthusiasts here in the US.
We'll be the first to admit that tracing the vehicle's lineage from its humble beginnings as a prototype for Japan's National Police Reserve in 1951 to what it is today isn't an easy task, especially when one considers that the types of Land Cruisers produced traditionally have varied from market to market. For example, the Land Cruiser sold in the US is very different from the US-only 40 series Land Cruiser-inspired FJ Cruiser, which is itself different from the Land Cruiser Prado sold in other world markets.
To cover the Land Cruiser's sixty-plus year history from start to present, someone over at Toyota UK was thoughtful enough to devote a plus-size blog post to it. It's worth a read if you have a spare 10 or 15 minutes - and even if you don't, you can check out our historical gallery above. Enjoy!
New Toyota semiconductors could increase hybrid fuel efficiency by 10%
Wed, 21 May 2014Toyota may have an ace up its sleeve in the fuel economy wars, as it's developed a new type of semiconductor that will allegedly help the company's hybrids net a ten-percent improvement in fuel economy.
The tech is still in development, although Toyota is already reporting five-percent gains during testing, six years before it plans to implement the new semiconductor in production vehicles, meaning the ten-percent improvement doesn't seem like an untenable goal. That is, until you hear from Kimimori Hamada, the project general manager of Toyota's electronics division.
"We are aiming for great improvement in fuel economy and miniaturization," Hamada told Automotive News. "This is a very challenging target."
2015 Toyota Camry set to circle NASCAR track near you
Mon, 13 Oct 2014Toyota recently introduced the all-new 2015 Camry for the street, so it follows that it should want to promote its new bread-and-butter sedan by putting it out on the racetrack as well. And that's just what it's done here with the release of the new Toyota Camry for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
The new Camry represents the first reskin of the standard stock car chassis since the Gen-6 model was introduced in 2012. Toyota's Calty Design studio worked closely with series organizers to determine which parts could be redesigned to more closely resemble the new production model, and what you see here is the result. Since it is based on the same control chassis as all the others, the Camry's skin is applied over a steel tube frame and powered by an old-school 5.86-liter pushrod V8 mated to a four-speed manual gearbox.
Although the idea of a Japanese automaker in American stock car racing didn't initially get the warmest reception from some of the good ol' boys when it first entered the series back in 2007, it has by now become a staple of the NASCAR circuit. After all, it's hard for even the most patriotic of racing fans to argue with the US-built Camry's ranking as one of the most American cars by content on the market.
