I am finally selling this 1989 Toyota Supra. I bought it in 2008 as a sporty gas saver. Bought it with a blown head gasket, but turned out to have a horrible rod knock. So I pulled the motor and took the block, remanufactured crankshaft, pistons, rods and head to my machine shop in Illinois where everything was checked and the bottom end was assembled. After new gaskets, rings, seals, etc... were put together I drove it around to and from work, replaced tires, front tie rods, stabilizer bar end links, struts brake pads, a few interior pieces. Then I loaned it to a friend in TX so we drove it from IL to TX and let them use it for over a year where it had it's clutch and water pump replaced. After they got a new car we drove it from TX to VA where we currently live. We haven't driven it much since living here, but it had developed a leak so we replaced some hoses and after driving it around a little bit more we have replaced another head gasket, power steering pump and a few more interior pieces. The bad is that it might have another rod knock, I am not sure but it does have a knock at around 2k rpm. There is an exhaust leak on the downpipe from a hole, and the rack and pinion might need to be rebuilt or replaced. But it does start and drive, holds temperature perfectly all day long, oil pressure is 40 on initial start 20 while driving but will be a few psi while idling. boosts just fine, all gauges work. Overall not bad, I just have too many vehicles right now. Thank you for looking.

Sports 800 is a progenitor of Toyota performance
Tue, 18 Nov 2014There's an automotive axiom that claims it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. If that's the case, then pushing a Toyota Sports 800 around must be one of the most exhilarating experiences behind the wheel in the world. With just 800cc of displacement from a two-cylinder boxer engine, the focus is on finesse over outright speed. Still, it's a fantastic page in Toyota's performance history, and Petrolicious takes a ride with a man who owns a meticulously restored 1967 example in its latest video.
The Sports 800 used the classic cost-saving strategy in the auto industry of taking parts from a standard model in the lineup and modifying it into a sports car. In this case that meant borrowing the engine from the plebian Toyota Publica, beefing it up for more power and clothing the whole thing a in beautifully shaped, wind-tunnel-honed body.
The look of these lithe, targa roadsters is the exact opposite of the rather dull styling sometimes associated with Toyota today. Everywhere you look there are louvers, vents or curves to draw the eye. Check out the latest Petrolicious video for a detailed look at the history of this rare model that's largely unknown on this side of the Pacific.
Toyota Hilux successor spotted
Mon, 15 Sep 2014The midsize truck segment is suddenly seemingly exploding with new vehicles worldwide, even here in North America. Not only will the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon be available very soon, Toyota is already testing a replacement for its aging Tacoma and Honda has promised a Ridgeline replacement within the next 18 months. Also, the recently shown Nissan Navara is said to portend the future of our Frontier. Here's some more fresh evidence from Europe of this pickup boom with the next generation of its venerable Hilux in testing.
Thanks to Top Gear and sometimes the evening news, the Hilux has built a reputation of being able to go just about anywhere. According to out spy shooter, this particular pickup was spotted during hot weather testing in southern Europe. Interestingly, a Volkswagen Amarok was along for the ride as a benchmark. Because the VW tends to offer a bit more comfort than the generally utilitarian Hilux, this could indicate Toyota is considering taking the new truck in a slightly comfier, more refined direction.
Compared to the current model, this camouflaged tester sports a narrower front grille and headlights. The hood scoop is also absent here. The lower air dam also receives a more horizontal look, but the more vertical fog light housings provide some contrast. The crazy camouflage pattern makes things hard to discern at the rear, but the taillights appear to be more slender than they on the current model. Unfortunately, mechanical details about the new truck remain a mystery at the moment, but enjoy these spy shots as a preview of one more upcoming pickup.
