I have owned this car for over 10 years and have modified the engine and drive train to make it more fun to drive. The body is straight with only a couple of dings, and the interior is in exceptional condition with the piping on the drivers seat being the only upholstery problem. The Dash has a crack in front of the speedometer cluster, and one crack in driver arm rest. I rebuilt the engine when I purchased it about 50,000 miles ago and used ross forged pistons, ACL bearings, and a Cometic 2.o mm head gasket with ARP head bolts. It had a to4B turbo on it when I bought it, which made 425 rwhp after a bit of tuning and supporting modifications including; Aeromotive FPR Stainless tubular exhaust manifold RC 550cc injectors Tial Blow off Valve and wastegate Walbro 255lph fuel pump wired independently of harness GReddy Profec B spec II Boost Controller SAFC-2 air/fuel control piggyback Innovate LM-1 Wideband a/f meter Custom intercooler piping Cartech FMIC Lexus AFM Tanabe Hyper Medallion exhaust system RPS 3200# clutch Fidanza aluminum flywheel Eibach Sport lowering springs Tokico illumina TEMS compatible shocks Supra MKiv TT wheels with very low mileage Firehawk wide ovals 245/45/x17 on front and Nitto 555 285/40x17 on rear I have since that time added a genuine garret G3582r BB turbo to improve performance and driveability. Having a wideband allows one to adjust fuel on the fly and I have not gotten a dyno run since the new turbo about 3 years ago. It has the usual old car miscellaneous minor leaks, but has been a daily driver for years. Non smoking car with icy cold A/C. Not a car for someone without mechanical aptitude and ability, but a great car if you feel the need for speed. I am now retired and Just don't have the inclination or energy to play with this one anymore.

Toyota's production fuel cell car to cost between $50-100k

Fri, 03 May 2013

While the cost of building a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle continues to go down over time, reports over the last few years have steadily maintained that the first Toyota hydrogen-powered vehicles for customers should ring up for around $50,000. Company officials cited this figure way back in 2010, and have reiterated it in subsequent years.
So, while a recent Automotive News report about the cost of Toyota's 2015 Hydrogen car doesn't offer up any new figures, it does offer an interesting pricing wrinkle. According to the report, the "cost factor" for the hydrogen vehicles will be in the $50k ballpark, meaning the retail price could be anywhere from there, up to as much as around $100,000.

NHTSA investigating 30,000 Toyota Camry Hybrids for brake assist problems

Mon, Jan 27 2014

Older model Toyota Camry Hybrids are under investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for potential braking problems. Enough complaints have poured into the NHTSA website that the agency is now taking a look at the problem, which could affect around 30,000 vehicles from the 2007 and 2008 model years. According to Reuters, 59 complaints have been submitted revolving around an "intermittent loss of assisted braking" which means the car takes longer to stop. Interestingly, the rate of complaints is increasing. Toyota is reportedly cooperating with NHTSA and there has not yet been an official recall on the Camry Hybrids. In 2006, Toyota said Brake Assist was "an electronic function that senses an emergency stop and applies increased braking power once the driver touches the brake pedal." When Toyota unveiled the 2007 Camry Hybrid, it proudly stated that the new Brake Assist function would be standard. Other Toyota hybrids have had problems with their brakes in the past, including the 2010 Prius and Lexus HS 250h hybrid. You can read some of the complaints about Brake Assist in the Camry Hybrids to the NHTSA here. People are saying that the "Check VSC" lights can come on before the brakes loose some of their power and a lot of them are being quoted repair costs of over $3,000 by Toyota dealers. Lost power in a winter storm? Just hook up a Toyota Prius like this guy did

Thu, Jan 9 2014

The Toyota Prius' battery pack just got something like a five-star rating from a truly seasoned professional – a 50-year aircraft technician. Bob Osemlak, who'd served more than three of those five decades with the Canadian Air Force, brought electricity back to his home in December during a heavy ice storm thanks to his gas-electric car. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. The Thornhill, Ontario resident lost power for nearly a day on December 21 – not nearly as much as millions of other people hit by the recent storm - and so he still set about using his Prius for backup power, according to EV World. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. Being an aircraft technician for so long brought Osemlak the ability to home-brew his V2H set-up that he urges other people to avoid, for safety reasons. He had planned for a potential power outage by installing an outlet on his furnace and, when the storm struck, he ran a cord through the basement window to the car. During the nine hours Osemlak used his Prius for backup power, the car's fuel gauge only reduced less than one bar, or roughly the equivalent of a gallon of gasoline. It wasn't the first time Osemlak had played with his vehicle. In the 1960s, while stationed in Winnepeg, Manitoba, he created a car starter. Every hour, the car would start up and run for 10 minutes to avoid being frozen solid in frigid winter temperatures.
