1989 Toyota Supra Turbo Gt3582r With Supporting Mods on 2040-cars
Ruskin, Florida, United States
I have owned this car for over 10 years and have modified the engine and drive train to make it more fun to drive. The body is straight with only a couple of dings, and the interior is in exceptional condition with the piping on the drivers seat being the only upholstery problem. The Dash has a crack in front of the speedometer cluster, and one crack in driver arm rest.
I rebuilt the engine when I purchased it about 50,000 miles ago and used ross forged pistons, ACL bearings, and a Cometic 2.o mm head gasket with ARP head bolts. It had a to4B turbo on it when I bought it, which made 425 rwhp after a bit of tuning and supporting modifications including;
Aeromotive FPR
Stainless tubular exhaust manifold
RC 550cc injectors
Tial Blow off Valve and wastegate
Walbro 255lph fuel pump wired independently of harness
GReddy Profec B spec II Boost Controller
SAFC-2 air/fuel control piggyback
Innovate LM-1 Wideband a/f meter
Custom intercooler piping
Cartech FMIC
Lexus AFM
Tanabe Hyper Medallion exhaust system
RPS 3200# clutch
Fidanza aluminum flywheel
Eibach Sport lowering springs
Tokico illumina TEMS compatible shocks
Supra MKiv TT wheels with very low mileage Firehawk wide ovals 245/45/x17 on front and Nitto 555 285/40x17 on rear
I have since that time added a genuine garret G3582r BB turbo to improve performance and driveability. Having a wideband allows one to adjust fuel on the fly and I have not gotten a dyno run since the new turbo about 3 years ago.
It has the usual old car miscellaneous minor leaks, but has been a daily driver for years. Non smoking car with icy cold A/C.
Not a car for someone without mechanical aptitude and ability, but a great car if you feel the need for speed.
I am now retired and Just don't have the inclination or energy to play with this one anymore.

Bibendum 2014: Former EU President says Toyota could lose 100,000 euros per hydrogen FCV sedan
Thu, Nov 13 2014Pat Cox does not work for Toyota and we don't think he has any secret inside information. Still, he's the former President of the European Parliament and the current high level coordinator for TransEuropean Network, so when he says Toyota is likely going to lose between 50,000 and 100,000 euros ($66,000 and $133,000) on each of the hydrogen-powered FCV sedans it will sell next year, it's worth noting. That was just one highlight of Cox's presentation at the 2014 Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Chengdu, China today, which addressed the main problem of using more H2 in transportation: cost. The EU has a tremendous incentive to find an alternative to fossil fuels, since Europe today is 94 percent dependent on oil for its transportation sector and 84 percent of that 94 percent dependency is imported oil. The tab for that costs the EU a billion euros a day, Cox said, on top of the environmental costs. To encourage a shift away from petroleum, European Directive 2014/94 requires each member state to develop national policy frameworks for the market development of alternative fuels and their infrastructure. For the member states that choose to fulfill 2014/94 by developing a hydrogen market – and to be clear, Cox said, it's not an EU diktat that they do so, since a number of other alternatives are also allowed – the aim is to have things in place by the end of 2025. The plans don't even have to be submitted until the end of 2016. The long lead time is due to a quirk in a hydrogen economy. In hydrogen infrastructure, "the first-mover cost is not the first-mover advantage, but the firstmover disadvantage." – Pat Cox In deploying a hydrogen infrastructure, Cox said, "the first-mover cost is not the first-mover advantage, but the first-mover disadvantage, and high risk." That's why the EU and member states will financially support the early stages, but everyone agrees that "if this is to work, it will have to be ultimately and essentially a commercially viable and commercially driven infrastructure roll-out." Since 1986, European Union research programs have spent 550 million euros on hydrogen-related and fuel-cell-related research, including methods of hydrogen storage and distribution as well as improved fuel cells vehicles, Cox said. Expensive problems remain to be solved. At a conference in Berlin, Germany this past summer, Cox said, the unit cost of the refueling stations was identified as the main problem.
Toyota releases teaser for Kaley Cuoco Super Bowl ad
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Toyota has released a 35-second teaser video for its upcoming Super Bowl spot staring Kaley Cuoco, the actress best known for her role as object-of-nerd-affection Penny on The Big Bang Theory. The real star of the ad, however, is its soundtrack, the 1995 hit "I Wish" by rapper Skee-Lo that will have your mind cashing nostalgia checks the moment it hits your ears.
We still don't know much about the content, plot or story of this Super Bowl commercial, though we can say that its object of promotion is likely the new RAV4 we see Ms. Cuoco driving in this teaser. The rest of the time she's walking the street in a purple getup granting wishes like Robin Williams on a Disney sound stage. And then the Easter Bunny and a chihuahua enter the picture and we get lost. Clint Eastwood under a bridge this is not.
But hey, Super Bowl ads cost millions and millions of dollars to produce and air, so we trust that Toyota spent its money wisely and will have us ROFLing on game day. Until then, scroll down and witness for yourself the debut of Kaley Cuoco as a Toyota spokeswoman.
Customers want wireless charging in next-gen Prius Plug-In; they might get it
Tue, Jul 8 2014Could 2016 be the year prospective Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid buyers are waiting for? Why, yes, says an unidentified Toyota spokesman. That's according to Plug-in Cars, which reports that a wireless plug-in vehicle charging system may be less than two years away for the Prius Plug-in. WiTricity has, for a few years, been developing its magnetic resonance wireless charging system for the model. This type of system allows for more distance leeway than other wireless setups when it comes to how close the car and its on-board receiver need to be to the floor-mounted system. That allows for smaller, lighter on-board receivers, which is key for any plug-in vehicle. Toyota spokeswoman Jana Hartline confirmed in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen that the company has conducted wireless charging tests in Japan "with hopes to bring that technology to market in the near future" but declined to provide more detail on the company's plans to offer wireless charging for plug-ins. Toyota's Satoshi Ogiso said last summer that the Prius Plug-in would eventually offer a wireless charging system in response to prospective customers' demand for it, though he wasn't specific on a time frame. Toyota started discussions with WiTricity regarding wireless charging system development more than three years ago and said late last year that it had reached a licensing agreement with the Boston-based company. WiTricity has also worked on developing wireless-charging systems that are compatible with Audi and Mitsubishi vehicles. WiTricity grew out of MIT back in 2007, back when we could barely imagine how it would work.
