Fresh from Japan ! Finally on the market! I call this car a Celebrity because for the past two months it was featured in multiple blogs, articles, Facebook pages, forums, etc. as a very unique and beautiful car. It has a COMPLETE Veilside wide-body kit, including Veilside Aero Mirrors and Veilside rims! Only the body kit is valued at $15K. As you can see the original color is 8L5 known as Royal Sapphire Pearl. I did some research and found out that Toyota used this color between 1997-1998 on a number of only 31 cars - 24 Twin Turbo and only 7 NA, which means that beside this car only 23 other TT Supras have the same color in the whole world. And all of them are made in 1997 - 15 years Anniversary Edition - extremely rare stuff...This car has two supplementary paint coats: one purple and one green; depending on the angle you are looking for you'll see different colors and shades, due to the Pearl effect. The car has 137440 KILOMETERS, not MILES and was driven only in Japan. As the time passes, the Supras appreciate in value due to the fact that are limited in numbers and it is harder and harder to find a clean and well maintained one. As you can see from the pictures, this car is in A condition, except for some very small deficiencies, specific to all Toyota Supras. In many instances it looks better than many cars sold here, on eBay, having the mention of "mint condition" or "factory condition". The interior was well maintained, cleaned and steamed. It's an extremely beautiful car; in Vancouver, where I live, more than half of the car drivers and pedestrians turn their heads when the car is passing by. It's a special feeling to know that you are envied because of the car you are driving. The awesome specific shape and color, the unique body style, the 265/18" rear wheels and 245/18 front wheels with expensive Veilside rims - all contribute to an unmatched look which only a true racing car can bring. Being an 1997 Anniversary Edition it has the black tinted stop lights and headlights, which gives a plus of elegance. The Veilside kit is perfectly integrated into the car's body, flowing with body's contour. Whoever did the job did a work of art! The engine is TT stock! which means you can start any project car you'll want! The Supra coupe has been Toyota's sports-luxury-performance flagship since the days when it was the upscale Celica model. Originally introduced as the Celica Supra back in 1979, it gained increased distinction from the rest of the Celica lineup with a second generation in 1982, and became a separate nameplate in mid-1986. The first turbocharged version went on sale in 1987, pointing toward the high-tech, high-performance future of the car. With the debut of the current, 4th-generation in 1993, the Supra became a very serious performance machine. Performance levels are higher today than 15 or 20 years ago, and the 320-horsepower Supra Turbo offers near- supercar performance levels with better comfort and civilization levels than most cars in that class. The 220-horsepower standard Supra isn't exactly slow, either. Toyota considers 1997 to be the 15th anniversary of the Supra, and all 1997 Supras have special commemorative badging. Most significantly, a 6-speed manual transmission is available in Turbo models. This is very much in keeping with the car's seriously sporting nature. Few cars combine style, performance, and comfort as well as the Toyota Supra Turbo. The 1993-1998 Supra Twin Turbo is often referred to as the most over-engineered car in history. The Toyota Supra Twin Turbo together with the Veilside body kits were both featured in the major motion picture “The Fast and Furious”, and have been featured on numerous other television shows due to their immense popularity and mystique. There are multiple celebrities, athletes, and other ‘famous’ people who own these cars due to their reputation APPEARANCE: The Toyota Supra is a front-engine, rear-wheel drive car like the classic sports and racing cars of the 1950s and early 1960s. Without consciously imitating any other machine, it has the look of a performance car of that era, with certain modern updates. The transparently-covered headlights, long hood, and small fastback passenger cabin set well to the rear of the car give the classic look of speed. The high rear wing, oversized exhaust tip, and ultra low-profile high-speed tires on polished alloy wheels are contemporary touches. The basic styling has been unchanged since the car's introduction in 1993, although there are minor trim changes for 1997, and the previously-used tinted cabin glass is replaced by high solar energy- absorbing glass for cooler interior temperatures. COMFORT: The Supra Turbo is a driver-oriented car, and a driving- oriented car. Driver comfort is important for alertness and safety, and is not ignored. Supportive power front bucket seats, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and a first-rate climate control system see to that. Cup holders and storage spaces can distract from driving attention, and are de-emphasized. Instrumentation is important, and the Supra's instrument panel wraps around the driver cockpit-style to ensure that all gauges and controls are readily accessible. The short-throw gearshift lever is placed in just the right spot. There is a "2+2"- style rear seat in the Supra. As is typical of sports cars with such, it is best used as luggage space. Head and legroom back there are not exactly minivan-class, and the luggage space under the rear deck cargo shade is suitable only for a medium-sized briefcase. Don't think that the Supra Turbo is a spartanly-appointed race-replica. Standard power windows, mirrors, and door locks, a premium sound system, and useful interior lighting make it a civilized grand touring machine. SAFETY: All 1997 Toyota Supras have a strengthened uni-body structure with a rigid safety cage passenger compartment, front and rear crumple zones, standard antilock brakes, and dual airbags. ROADABILITY: The 1997 Supra Turbo has very high handling limits. The speed-sensitive rack and pinion power steering feels a little light at low speeds, but that is probably preferable given the immense tire width. Steering feel improves with velocity, and the staggered tires grip the road tenaciously. The fully-independent double wishbone suspension is firm as expected from the car's mission and tire sizes, but not uncomfortable. This is a real car that can be used for real long-distance trips, as long as minimal luggage is needed. The Turbo has larger brakes than its sibling - 12.6- inch vented rotors front and rear with 4-piston front and 2-piston rear calipers. A 3-channel antilock system is standard on all models. The Turbo also benefits from traction control and a limited-slip differential to ensure that all of its power gets to the road. PERFORMANCE: The 3.0-liter twin cam inline six in the 1997 Supra Turbo has dual sequential turbochargers. What this means is plenty of flexible power with little turbo lag. The first turbo spools up at low engine speeds for quick throttle response. The second comes in at higher speeds with a feeling like rocket stage separation. There is a slight hesitation in acceleration, then the car really takes off. The six-speed gearbox makes the Supra Turbo a little quicker and much more enjoyable. CONCLUSIONS: The 1997 Toyota Supra Turbo combines ferocious performance with civilization.
As aftermarket parts this is a list with the most important improvements: - Veilside wide body kit, including exterior mirrors and rims - Fully adjustable coilover suspension (EDFC): high-low and soft-rigid; now is set on high and soft (street driving) - Keyless entry - High performance 1 1/2 differential; perfect for drifting ! - High performance twin plate clutch - Koyo Aluminum radiator - Slotted rotors on the front - Roll cage - HKS large intercooler - Greddy extra gauges and boost gauge -Brand new tires - Air filter and the intake line -Blitz turbo timer - Blitz radiator cap - TRD oil filler cap - Recaro seat x 2 - Aftermarket exhaust - Sard Trigger - TRD 320km/h 5 gauge-set - HID lights - brand new battery From the pictures you can figure out the scuffs and scratches; no dents. This is a perfect car for who likes body kits; it is unique and it represents a mixture of the best Veilside parts. With production runs of fewer than 2,000 each year between 1993-1998, demand has already proven the Twin Turbo Supra to be an appreciating investment, well before the 15-25 year mark. Clean/unmolested examples like this one are getting harder and harder to find, and can sell for substantially above Kelly Blue Book or Autotrader.com. For this reason I've set my reserve at $40k, which is the assessed price only for the stock TT car and the Veilside kit. The rest of the aftermarket parts add a lot to the whole value of the car, so it's your gain. Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures
Tue, Jun 23 2020It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
Toyota mints 10-millionth vehicle in Kentucky
Fri, 30 May 2014In 26 years, from 1988 up to now, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky plant in Georgetown has built ten million vehicles - nearly enough for every citizen of Seoul, Korea or the nation of Hungary. The first car to roll off the line back when the claymation California Raisins were singing old Marvin Gaye hits and everybody wanted to know Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was a white Camry. The ten-millionth car to roll off the line among the Avalons and Venzas also produced there: a white Camry Hybrid.
Toyota has put $5.9 billion into the site since its inception, employment is up to 7,000 associates and will grow when Lexus ES350 assembly begins next year. Whereas car number one is a showpiece for the ages, one of the automaker's current associates will get to win the ten-millionth car in a blind drawing to be held this summer.
There's a press release below with more information on the impressive milestone.
Finalists for 2014 Green Car of the Year announced
Thu, 17 Oct 2013The list of finalists for the 2014 Green Car of the Year has been announced, and in a genuinely bizarre twist, there's only one hybrid and no electric vehicles among the five contestants, despite the arrival of cars like the BMW i3 and Tesla Model S. Taking the place of the EVs are a pair of diesels, repping a technology that last won a Green Car of the Year award in 2009, when the Audi A3 TDI took the title. No diesel was in the running for last year's award.
Naturally, both of the diesel finalists are fielded by the Germans - with BMW's 328d and Audi's A6 TDI getting the nod. In the case of the 3 Series, BMW installed a 2.0-liter, turbodiesel, capable of delivering 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while returning 45 miles per gallon on the highway. Audi and its larger, 3.0-liter, V6 turbodiesel produce quite a bit more grunt, with 240 hp and 428 lb-ft of grunt, but net a very impressive 38 mpg on the highway in the A6.
Finalists for this year's awards include two diesels, three gas-powered cars and a plug-in hybrid.
