2002 Toyota Sequoia Limited Sport Utility 4-door 4.7l_white_fully Loaded on 2040-cars
Decatur, Alabama, United States
Toyota reliability and plenty of room for less than you think! NO RESERVE!! If you need plenty of room and a reliable vehicle but don't have a lot of money then this is the SUV for you!
MECHANICAL This 2002 Sequoia has high miles but I cannot overstate how well it drives. I bought it about 2 months ago at auction and had it checked out by my mechanic the day I bought it. He installed a new timing belt kit (including pulleys, belt, etc), water pump, battery, serpentine belt, 2 oxygen sensors and front and rear brake pads and rotors. He said these were the only items he could find wrong with it. No oil or other fluid leaks. I've driven it several times a week since then and have tried to find something wrong with how it drives/runs and cannot. I would encourage you to have your mechanic check it out. EXTERIOR The exterior is in average condition. The paint has a few chips around the exterior but no body damage except for 2 small "slits" in the rear bumper, right above the towing hitch. They are about 2 inches long and about 1/4 inch wide. All body panels appear to be original and it even comes with running boards and spoiler. The clear coat is fading some. It stills looks good, as is, but if the buyer wanted to pay $1000 or so for a new paint job then it would look brand new. All lights, turn signals, etc have been tested and worked at that time. The only exterior item that is not currently working are the power side mirrors. I believe it is just a fuse and will try to correct, but until further notice please assume it is not working. Mirrors can be adjusted by hand, though. INTERIOR The interior is in good condition, except for 2 items. One of the seams in the seat of the front driver and passenger seat is coming loose. I have included a picture of both. The seats don't have any other holes or tears but they are, somewhat, faded and do show their age. Only other issue is on the 2nd row of seats- the seat belts are dirty but I am going to try to clean them. Other than these two items, the interior is free of tears, holes or large scratches. There is general wear and fading that you would expect from a 12 year old vehicle but it is definitely in good enough condition to use as is. I have tried to describe as accurately as possible the exact condition of this vehicle. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I bought this vehicle with the plan to keep it but my wife wants something slightly smaller which is the only reason I'm selling it. I spent more on the mechanical upgrades than I normally would have so I will probably lose money on the sale but my loss is your gain. I have it listed locally so I will end the auction if it sells before the end of the auction. If not, the last bidder wins or BUY IT NOW for less than $5K. Kelley Blue Book private party sale value in FAIR condition is $5855 and GOOD condition is $6459 so, either way, the buyer is going to get a great deal. |

Auto execs surveyed say VW, BMW most likely to grow
Thu, 17 Jan 2013A new survey of top global automotive executives indicates both Volkswagen and BMW are the most likely to grow their market share over the next five years.
Tax advisory firm KPMG LLP has released its 14th annual Global Automotive Executive Survey, which includes responses from over 200 executives. A total of 81 percent of respondents said they expect to see Volkswagen make gains, compared to 70 percent last year. BMW, meanwhile, saw 70 percent of those surveyed say they believe the company will increase its market share. That's a jump of 7 percentage points over last year. This is the first time in the history of the survey that BMW has claimed the second-place spot.
Meanwhile, Hyundai has seen its perceived market share potential slacken for the third year in a row. Around 61 percent of those surveyed predicted gains for Hyundai, down from 63 in 2012. Toyota also has a surprising year, but for just the opposite reason. While the manufacturer had slipped in ranking since 2011, it enjoyed the largest increase of any company in the 2013 survey, jumping to 68 percent from 44 percent last year.
An early gas-electric hybrid was developed by...Exxon?
Tue, Oct 25 2016We're not sure which aspect of Exxon's 1970s-era efforts to develop advanced and electrified powertrains is the most ironic. There's Exxon, that of the Valdez oil spill infamy, being on the leading edge of hybrids and electric vehicles. There's a boat-like Chrysler Cordova getting 27 miles per gallon. And there's the central role a Volkswagen diesel engine plays in that hybrid development. It's all outlined in an article (linked above) by Inside Climate News, and it's an amusing read. Flush with cash and fearing what it thought was peak oil production in the 1970s, Exxon funded a host of new ventures divisions geared to find alternatives to gas-powered powertrains. In the early 1970s, Exxon lured chemist M. Stanley Whittingham to develop what would become a prototype of a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Then, in the late 1970s, Exxon pioneered the concept of using an alternating-current (AC) motor as part of a gas-electric hybrid vehicle. The company retrofitted a Chrysler Cordova (yes, that's the model Ricardo Montalban used to hawk) with a powertrain that combined 10 Sears Die-Hard car batteries, an alternating current synthesizer (ACS), a 100-horsepower AC motor, and, yes, a four-cylinder 50-horsepower Volkswagen diesel engine. The result was a rather large two-door sedan that got an impressive 27 mpg. And while US automakers didn't see the potential in the early concept, in 1980 Exxon and Toyota began collaborating on a project that would involve retrofitting a Toyota Cressida with a hybrid engine. That car was completed in 1981, and may have been one of the seeds that eventually helped sprout the concept of the Toyota Prius. Soon after rebuilding the Cressida, Exxon would get out of the advanced-powertrain-development business, as oil prices began to fall in the early 1980s, spurring cost-cutting measures. Cry no tears for the Exxon, though, as what's now known as ExxonMobil is the largest US oil company. Lexus Eco Challenge rewards schools for clean water, briquette press projects
Fri, Feb 28 2014Teams from one New Jersey high school and one Michigan middle school reversed the old adage by thinking locally and acting globally. And that strategy won them the grand prizes in the most recent edition of the Lexus Eco Challenge. The future is indeed bright. The Toyota luxury-vehicle division gave out a half-million dollars in this year's contest. One $30,000 grand prize was awarded to the Pinelands Eco Scienteers from Little Egg Harbor, NJ, which produced and distributed low-cost briquette presses to rural villages beset by deforestation. The other grand prize went to the E.T. Electrical Team from Byron Center West Middle School in Michigan. That middle-school group raised money to send water filters to Haiti, Kenya and the Philippines. Lexus also awarded eight $15,000 first-place awards, with the winners including high schools from California, Florida, Missouri and Pennsylvania as well as middle schools from Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina and Texas. A special shout out goes to Daniel Boone Area High School in Birdsboro, PA, where students created an educational and public-relations campaign to publicize algae-based biofuels. In all, Lexus has doled out more than $4 million in Eco Challenge awards in seven years. Check out Lexus's press release below. Students Get Dollars and Sense in Lexus Eco Challenge - $500,000 Awarded to Teams Who Learn About Environment and Community Empowerment Two Grand Prize Teams Earn $30,000 Eight $15,000 First Place Awards Given to Innovative High School and Middle School Teams Students Bring Ideas to a Larger Audience and Make a Positive Impact on the World TORRANCE, Calif., (Feb. 24, 2014) – It's a win, win situation! Communities become a better place, and students, teachers and schools have the chance to share $500,000 in scholarships and grants through the Lexus Eco Challenge. This year, the $30,000 Grand Prize winners are the Pinelands Eco Scienteers from Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, and the E.T. Electrical Team from Byron Center, Michigan. The Lexus Eco Challenge is an educational program and contest that inspires and empowers young people to learn about the environment and take action to improve it. High school and middle school teams nationwide define an environmental issue that is important to them, develop an action plan to address the issue, implement the plan, and report on the results.
