It's time to say goodbye to a dear old friend...this Prius has been in my family for 12 years, driven by my parents the first 8 and me the last 4.  I love this car, but I'm leaving Liverpool, NY and heading to London, so I can't take it with me.

The Good Stuff:
- 2002 Toyota Prius, silver exterior and grey interior, kept clean and well-maintained by my family.
- Runs perfectly and gets around 37 MPG daily short-trip use, and upwards of 40-50 MPG on long highway trips.
- Power steering, power mirrors, power locks with remote and power windows.
- Regenerative power anti-lock brakes.
- In-dash computer control screen with efficiency readout and audio system controls for radio and CD.
- Radio, cassette player, 6-CD multidisc player.
- Cruise control.
- Adjustable steering wheel.
- Perfectly working A/C and heat.
- Driver/passenger airbags.
- Passive alarm system, engine immobilizer and VIN etching on all windows.
- Passed inspection in March 2014.
- Comes with a free set of excellent non-studded Blizzak WS60 snow tires, used only for last winter and they were amazing, they gripped the road like it wasn't even snowing.
- The Vehicle History says 3 owners because my parents leased it before buying it.  It's really been a one-family car owned by a bunch of obsessive neat freaks. :)

Recent Maintenance:
- Replaced both front struts 8/30/14 from normal wear over time.
- Replaced both front tires 8/30/14, aligned and balanced.  Back tires still in good condition, less than two years old.
- Replaced engine filter July 2014.
- Replaced the brake pads and rotors less than a year ago.

The Few Known, Mostly Cosmetic Defects:
- Double-sided dent on the front right bumper from a 5 MPH collision with the rear end of a motorcycle two years ago.  Does not affect the car's performance.
- Small ding on the driver's door left by some unknown driver while I was inside a store shopping.
- Tiny chip in the upper right front windshield.
- Front right daytime running light turns randomly on and off for no apparent reason.  Mechanics couldn't tell me why, the bulbs have been replaced, and if you thump it, it comes back on.
- Trunk's key lock won't turn, but the trunk release latch inside the car still opens it.
- The hood release latch works, but you have to pull up on the hood a bit before it will pop so you can reach the opening lever.
- Folding cup holder for the rear seats pops off sometimes, but will pop back on.
- Light rust in places underneath, it spent 8 years in dry Texas climates, so it's only been exposed to upstate NY weather for four. :)

It's usually parked in the evenings beside 31 Galloway Drive, Liverpool, NY 13090, and has eBay signs in the windows, if you'd like to take a look first.  Please e-mail me with any questions you have!

Cash, check, Paypal or credit card (via my Square account swiper) are accepted, but checks have to clear my bank first before I turn over the keys, up to an additional 3 business days.

Out of state buyers are welcome but only with no option for refusal/negotiation after arrival.  I will make videos for non-local buyers upon request so you can make a safe buying decision.  ***Please be sure before you bid.***  I will gladly pick up buyers from the airport.

Thanks for looking, feel free to ask any questions and happy bidding!

This classic Firebird restomod swallowed a Prius

Tue, Apr 19 2016

It takes an unusual eye to look at a 1967 Pontiac Firebird and see the Toyota Prius hidden inside. But that's just the kind of eye that a creative mechanic known online as "Bill the Engineer" has. Bill is updating his old Firebird into a true classic for the 21st century and has documenting the changes over at Priuschat and EcoModder. The TL,DR version of the story: he's replacing the worn-out powertrain with the gas-electric hybrid one from a Prius V, because it turns out the two vehicles have almost exactly the same wheelbase. Bill, who's from Columbus, Ohio and doesn't want his full name used, said in his posts on the conversion project that he's made many memories with this vehicle since buying it back in 1979. Since then, a few moves, a few decades, and some time in storage meant that the car would no longer function as he wanted it to. As he wrote, "when it comes to mice in the vehicles IT IS WAR." His solution is to make new memories and making a greener vehicle, and so we wanted to ask him how things have been going. Bill's been traveling a bit recently, but told AutoblogGreen that he's now figuring out the next steps for this amazing and complicated project. "I always plan things out before I do them," he said. That's the only way something like this can work. ABG: I think we have to start with what gave you the inspiration for this project. Was it simply that you had the two cars and wanted to see them merged into one cool mashup, or was it something else? "One day my wife wondered out loud if the car could be converted into a hybrid... The rest is history." Bill: I have been the owner of my 1967 Firebird convertible since 1979 when I bought it for $750.00. I drove it for years and made many memories. Afterward it was in storage for many years during which time mice at their way into the car and trashed the interior and wiring. I started working on a conventional restoration but always ran into major problems with hidden corrosion, electrical issues and an engine on its last legs. The car was never going to be as nice as I wanted going the conventional route. One day my wife wondered out loud if the car could be converted into a hybrid like our two daily driver Prii. That got me thinking about how it could be done. The rest is history... ABG: It looks like you started in late 2014. Have things gone well since then, or has it been one hassle after another? What has been the biggest setback, and what were the biggest victories?

2019 Toyota Corolla vs. compact hatchbacks: How they compare

Mon, Apr 30 2018

So you've read what we thought about the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. Oh, you didn't? Well, click to your left, we'll still be here. Just made some coffee, we're good for a while. Welcome back! Wasn't that riveting? The blue paint sure is bright, eh? Well, now you must be wondering how that new 2019 Corolla stacks up with all the other hatchbacks. And, despite long thinking that hatchbacks were doomed, there are actually quite a lot of them these days. So many, in fact, that we couldn't fit them all in our space-limited comparison chart. So, with apologies to the Hyundai Elantra GT, Kia Forte and the dead-man-walking Ford Focus, these were the cars we chose based on sales and competitiveness: the Honda Civic Hatchback, Mazda3 5-Door, Volkswagen Golf, Chevrolet Cruze and Subaru Impreza. We also included the outgoing Corolla iM for reference. If you think we've left something of interest out, you can always create your own comparison. Performance and fuel economy There is but one king here, and its name is Civic. While the sedan and coupe come with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 158-horsepower four-cylinder that's less potent than the Corolla's, the hatchback comes standard with the 1.5-liter turbo that aces the segment in terms of both acceleration and fuel economy. The Golf's acceleration should be comparable, but as you can see, it trails on fuel economy (still not bad, though). The new Corolla ends up being better than the rest with its new 168-hp four-cylinder paired to novel transmissions: a six-speed manual with rev-matched downshifting (!) and a CVT that mimics the actions of a 10-speed automatic. The Corolla does weigh more than everything else, though, so that could hamper its acceleration. Fuel economy data also wasn't announced, but Toyota indicated it would be a bit better than the old Corolla iM. Something akin to the 2.0-liter Mazda 3's numbers seems likely. As for the Mazda, its top two trim levels actually come standard with its bigger engine. In any event, despite its ample power, testing has often showed that the Civic is still the quicker car from 0 to 60 mph. And finally, let's not leave out the two on the end. The Subaru is the only car in the segment that offers all-wheel drive (the Focus RS and Golf R don't count), but is also the segment weakling now that the Corolla iM has been discontinued.

Recharge Wrap-up: Qualcomm invests in Chargemaster, gamers will appreciate these Toyota Prius C ads

Wed, Dec 10 2014

Chargemaster has received an investment from Qualcomm for wireless charging in the UK. Of the 27,000 charging stations it has already installed, 10,000 are ready to be adapted for inductive charging, according to Chargemaster. Dr. Anthony Thomson of Qualcomm says that with this investment (of a currently undisclosed amount), "we are taking another step towards deployment of a convenient and easy to use WEVC network." The convenience of wireless charging not only makes life easier for current EV drivers, but could also help convince more people to make the switch to electric driving. Read more at EV Fleet World or at Hybrid Cars. Toyota has released Japanese ads for the Prius C using music from popular video games. The ads, which borrow scores from Dragon Quest III and Monster Hunter, also use the tagline "Fun to drive, again." While some may find the link between driving and role-playing video games tenuous, fans of green cars and gaming know the various feedback displays in cars like the Prius C can make eking out every last mpg possible feel like a game, with the car's Eco Score essentially the equivalent of a game's high score. Plus even if the reference is lost on a viewer, the ads do instill a sense of adventure. See and hear for yourself in the videos below, and read more at Kotaku. The electric vehicle charger (EVC) market is predicted to grow by significantly worldwide by 2020, according to a new report. It shows a predicted compound annual growth rate of 28.28 percent between 2013 and 2020. Level 2 charging station sales will expand from $0.2 billion in 2014 to $3.5 billion by 2020, while growing from $67 million in 2013 to about $947 million in 2020 in the US alone. For 2014, residential EVC sales currently make up 70 percent of those in the US, while sales between home and non-residential level 2 chargers is expected to be about equally divided by 2020.
