It's time to say goodbye to a dear old friend...this Prius has been in my family for 12 years, driven by my parents the first 8 and me the last 4.  I love this car, but I'm leaving Liverpool, NY and heading to London, so I can't take it with me.

The Good Stuff:
- 2002 Toyota Prius, silver exterior and grey interior, kept clean and well-maintained by my family.
- Runs perfectly and gets around 37 MPG daily short-trip use, and upwards of 40-50 MPG on long highway trips.
- Power steering, power mirrors, power locks with remote and power windows.
- Regenerative power anti-lock brakes.
- In-dash computer control screen with efficiency readout and audio system controls for radio and CD.
- Radio, cassette player, 6-CD multidisc player.
- Cruise control.
- Adjustable steering wheel.
- Perfectly working A/C and heat.
- Driver/passenger airbags.
- Passive alarm system, engine immobilizer and VIN etching on all windows.
- Passed inspection in March 2014.
- Comes with a free set of excellent non-studded Blizzak WS60 snow tires, used only for last winter and they were amazing, they gripped the road like it wasn't even snowing.
- The Vehicle History says 3 owners because my parents leased it before buying it.  It's really been a one-family car owned by a bunch of obsessive neat freaks. :)

Recent Maintenance:
- Replaced both front struts 8/30/14 from normal wear over time.
- Replaced both front tires 8/30/14, aligned and balanced.  Back tires still in good condition, less than two years old.
- Replaced engine filter July 2014.
- Replaced the brake pads and rotors less than a year ago.

The Few Known, Mostly Cosmetic Defects:
- Double-sided dent on the front right bumper from a 5 MPH collision with the rear end of a motorcycle two years ago.  Does not affect the car's performance.
- Small ding on the driver's door left by some unknown driver while I was inside a store shopping.
- Tiny chip in the upper right front windshield.
- Front right daytime running light turns randomly on and off for no apparent reason.  Mechanics couldn't tell me why, the bulbs have been replaced, and if you thump it, it comes back on.
- Trunk's key lock won't turn, but the trunk release latch inside the car still opens it.
- The hood release latch works, but you have to pull up on the hood a bit before it will pop so you can reach the opening lever.
- Folding cup holder for the rear seats pops off sometimes, but will pop back on.
- Light rust in places underneath, it spent 8 years in dry Texas climates, so it's only been exposed to upstate NY weather for four. :)

It's usually parked in the evenings beside 31 Galloway Drive, Liverpool, NY 13090, and has eBay signs in the windows, if you'd like to take a look first.  Please e-mail me with any questions you have!

Cash, check, Paypal or credit card (via my Square account swiper) are accepted, but checks have to clear my bank first before I turn over the keys, up to an additional 3 business days.

Out of state buyers are welcome but only with no option for refusal/negotiation after arrival.  I will make videos for non-local buyers upon request so you can make a safe buying decision.  ***Please be sure before you bid.***  I will gladly pick up buyers from the airport.

Thanks for looking, feel free to ask any questions and happy bidding!

Toyota World's Top-Selling Carmaker For Second Year

Fri, Jan 24 2014

Toyota remained the top-selling automaker for a second year in a row, beating U.S. rival General Motors by some 270,000 vehicles in 2013, and set an ambitious target to sell more than 10 million vehicles this year. That would mark a milestone as no automaker has ever topped annual worldwide sales of 10 million. Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday it sold a record 9.98 million vehicles worldwide last year, up 2 percent from the previous year. The Japanese automaker has made an impressive comeback from an earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan in 2011, damaging auto suppliers and hobbling production. Toyota also outlined plans to sell 10.32 million vehicles and produce 10.43 million vehicles in 2014. General Motors Co. sold 9.71 million cars and trucks worldwide last year, outselling Volkswagen AG of Germany at 9.5 million. Toyota recaptured the global sales crown in 2012 from GM, which had been the top-selling carmaker for more than seven decades until being surpassed by Toyota in 2008. Toyota, which makes the Camry sedan, Prius hybrid and Lexus luxury models, had strong sales growth last year in overseas markets, although sales fell in long stagnant Japan. Toyota's U.S. sales totaled nearly 2.24 million vehicles, up 7 percent from the previous year. Its China sales were also strong, surging 9 percent to 917,000. Toyota remained optimistic about prospects this year for both regions, expecting sales to grow 3 percent in the U.S. to 2.3 million vehicles, while adding 20 percent in China sales to 1.1 million. The company was typically low-key about the bragging rights for being No. 1, reiterating its comments from previous years that it was merely making one car at a time to appeal to global consumers. GM has also expressed similar sentiments, but being the top seller is a key morale booster for the employees and related companies. The healthy results at the three rivals reflect the momentum of growth in the auto industry. Toyota has undergone tough times in recent years, such as a massive recall fiasco in the U.S. involving more than 14 million vehicles for sticky gas pedals, faulty floor mats, problematic brakes and many other defects, spanning several years from 2009. Toyota to pay $11 million after trial for fatal Camry crash

Wed, Feb 4 2015

Years after Toyota's unintended acceleration fiasco, the company is still making headlines for cars with sticky gas pedals. A federal jury in Minnesota decided yesterday that Toyota should pay $11 million for its role in the crash of a 1996 Camry that resulted in three deaths and sent a man to jail. A stuck pedal caused the Camry of Koua Fong Lee to accelerate uncontrollably and impact an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, killing its driver and his nine-year-old son, and paralyzing a six-year-old girl, who later died of her injuries. Two other passengers in the Olds were seriously injured. Lee spent nearly three years in prison on a charge of vehicular homicide, until the unintended acceleration recall erupted. He filed a motion for a new trial and won, and then joined the suit against Toyota filed by the victims and their families of the 2006 crash that left him imprisoned. The jury found Toyota 60 percent responsible for the accident, with the remaining 40 percent of blame going to Lee. Toyota has denied that the 1996 Camry, which wasn't included in the company's sweeping accelerator pedal recalls, was at fault. Toyota released a statement saying the company respects the jury's decision but believes the evidence clearly showed the vehicle wasn't the accident's cause. The company said it will study the record and consider its legal options. Under Minnesota law, the way the jury allocated fault means Toyota is responsible for paying all damages, minus 40 percent of the amount awarded to Lee, said Lee's attorney, Bob Hilliard. That brings Toyota's total liability to $10.94 million. Lee will receive $750,000 of that total. During the trial, Hilliard, told jurors there was a defect in the car's design. He said the Camry's auto-drive assembly could stick, and when tapped or pushed while stuck, it could stick again at a higher speed. He also accused Toyota of never conducting reliability tests on nylon resin pulleys that could be damaged under heat and cause the throttle to stick. "This is what makes the car go. This is what turns it into a torpedo, a missile, a deadly weapon," Hilliard said during his closing argument. Toyota said there was no defect in the design of the 1996 Camry. The company's attorney, David Graves, suggested that Lee was an inexperienced driver and mistook the gas pedal for the brake. Toyota also noted that Lee's car was never subject to the recalls of later-model Toyotas.

Toyota's new TNGA platform could boost Prius to 58 mpg

Sun, Mar 29 2015

First, let's put the necessary context around the phrase, "Toyota New Global Architecture platform." The platform is important, but it is just one flowering bud sprouting from the real action, which is the production processes that will create it. It is crucial to understand that TNGA is fundamentally about a revolution in how Toyota designs and builds its cars - it even includes an overhaul of management and human resources - with one of the benefits being the new platform that the 2016 Prius will ride on. The Daily Kanban goes in depth about the changes, but integrated development for powertrain and platforms serves to reduces costs through more parts-sharing at the same time as it creates more cohesive platforms that are lighter, more compact, and have more efficient layouts. Regarding hybrids, Toyota says the new drive unit layout along with small components could raise hybrid efficiency "by more than 15 percent." That might enable the 2016 Prius to return 57.5-mpg combined - almost 59 in the city, 55 on the highway. Plus, the higher rigidity, lower center of gravity, and better suspension of the new platform will provide a better driving experience. All of these changes will be reflected in platforms for large and rear-wheel-drive vehicles, too. It is factory and build-process refinement that allows the development advances to be fully exploited. Toyota is making its lines more flexible, partly by having actual assembly lines that can easily be shortened, lengthened, or trucked somewhere else, and partly by introducing machines that can build parts for many different vehicles on the same line as needed, without using molds. The flexibility extends to capital investment, too, with much less money needed in order to switch to a new product build. Toyota says it is doing this to "improve core vehicle performance and product appeal," the overhaul making it simpler to produce new designs and features. Factory workers benefit from the flexibility as well; being able to build more types of cars means they aren't hamstrung by the sales fortunes of a small number of models. You'll find plenty of specifics in the press release below. Making Ever-better Cars: A Progress Report "Sudden and drastic changes in the business environment mean that conventional ways of thinking and doing business can no longer help us grow sustainably.
