For Sale:  2004 Toyota Matrix XR, Automatic Transmission, Meticulously Maintained 179,000 miles loaded with features:

Keyless Entry, Fog Lights, Factory Ground effects package, aluminum alloy wheels, air condition, factory in dash 6 cd changer stereo, power windows door locks mirrors, cruise control,  full instrument cluster with tachometer, power glass sunroof w/ privacy shade, rear tinted windows, professionally installed U-Haul Tow hitch (trailer power adapter installed), factory embroidered front and rear floor mats (I bought them new from the dealer when I got the car), rear electric defroster and wiper, and has a valid NJ Inspection sticker that expires in 08/2016.

I bought this car in May 2011 from the third owner who got it from Toyota World of Lakewood, NJ.  The car had about 88,000 miles on it.  My job had me commuting about 80 miles round trip, sometimes six or seven days a week.  I bought the car because it was great on gas, it was a Toyota that would last forever, front wheel drive (great for snow), and the maintenance on the car is simple.  It has a timing CHAIN not a BELT thus never needs that expensive tune up most imports require.  The car does not have a distributor cap or rotor, ignition wires and does not even have a fuel filter that requires changing.  The car does have coil packs and a tune up consisted of an air filter and four spark plugs that can be inexpensively bought at any local auto parts store.

The vehicle was meticulously maintained and I have paperwork to prove it.  The oil was always changed at Valvoline instant oil change.  I always used the oil for higher mileage cars as it is better for the car and protects the engine seals etc.  I put so many highway miles on the car I normally ran the oil longer than 3,000 miles.  The car qualifies for the Valvoline 250,000 mile engine warranty.  I also had the air conditioning, transmission, fan belt, etc. serviced there.  I bought the rear wiper blade from the Toyota dealer as it was a unique size.

When I got the car I wanted to ensure the air conditioning was in good working order for the hot summer so I had Valvoline service it.  They fully remove the entire amount of refrigerant from the system, ensure it has a good vacuum without any leaks, and then refills it with fresh refrigerant.  They just confirmed for it this week that it is still functioning correctly and is ice cold like it should be.  I also had the transmission fluid changed about once a year as I was doing a lot of highway miles for work.  I flushed the coolant once a year and refilled it with pre diluted 50/50 Prestone antifreeze.  I was lucky as the car had new brakes when I got the car and I had done the fronts as needed.  I also put in four new Iridium tipped plugs as recommended by the manufacturer at 120,000 miles.  I did the air filters as needed once or twice a year.   I recently also bought four brand new Goodyear Eagle GSA tires and had them all high speed balanced.

The car is pre owned and for its age I think it is in great shape.  The interior has no tears, stains, and was always owned by pet and smoke free owners.  It has normal wear that goes along with the age.  I will list the condition I can best, but please look at the high resolution pictures to see the exact condition.

The front nose (front air dam, bumper and hood) has the typical tiny love bug and tiny rock chips common with most cars.  The rear bumper has marks from prior owners putting stuff in and out of the back incorrectly.  The prior owner had a wheel lock break on one of the wheel lugs and it needed to be ground off.  The outside of the wheel is fine, however inside where the lug nut goes was disturbed when the broken lock was removed.  The owner bought four new Toyota lug nuts and decided the wheel locks were no longer needed after that time consuming incident.  I agreed with that decision and continued to run it as he did.  The driver's side rear passenger door jamb had two chips on the inside.  The front windshield has a chip all the way on the passenger side (approximately three inches from the side rubber molding.)  The interior rear seats near the door jamb, there is a small panel that has some marks.

The Matrix is a great design as I have been able to fit so much in this compact car.  The passenger seat folds perfectly flat as the back seats do.  When the seats fold down they have a hard vinyl that protects the fabric and is easy to clean up after you get done moving something.  People have always been amazed at how handy this car is.  I have moved extremely bulky and long items in this car with no problem.   You can even rent a trailer for $30 from you haul and it is already set up for it.  I found I could get the fuel economy, reliability, and utility of a smaller car and avoid the larger expensive gas guzzler SUV's.

If you are looking for a meticulously maintained car with a documented maintenance history this is the car for you.   If you are looking to buy something that is perfect, that does not have any wear on it, you should consider buying a new car.  This car is priced below book value and would be much more on any lot.  Please ask any questions and if you would like more pictures before you bid so we can work out the logistics if you are not local.  Thank you for looking, I have been on ebay since 2000 and have 100% feedback.

Please read below before bidding:

ITEM DESCRIPTIONS: Some of the items I sell are older, vintage, and almost always pre-owned. I do my absolute best to catch and mention any blemishes, defects, etc., but on occasion I don't catch everything. Please know this when bidding on older or used items.  I do not mind taking extra pictures to email you or anything just to get us on the same page.

SHIPPING: I will ship with three (3) business days of auction ending as the description states but often its within the second day.  Please understand that most items can not be packaged until after auction end or sale as last minute photo requests or questions are frequent. I carefully package all items so that they arrive safely at your door. I will only ship to paypal verified addresses. I normally ship USPS however due to different situations (postal lines, location, etc) UPS is used at times.

LOCAL PICK UP ITEMS: Local pick up items are available for pick up at the location listed in the auction.  I have sold several items and always have had a great time meeting fellow eBay users.  Several times people have wanted items listed for local pick up shipped to them.  To accommodate this request I delivered the item to the local UPS store which the seller called in to make the shipping arraignments and payment.  I do not mind doing this, however please let me know ahead of time so I can plan to accommodate this.  I also do not mind not having a immediate paypal and accepting cash at the time of sale, as many buyers have preferred to do that.  Whatever the buyer is comfortable with is fine with me.

FEEDBACK: Customer satisfaction is my top priority. I aspire to give you five star services, if you do not get that please contact me ASAP So we can correct the problem before you leave feedback. I always leave feedback after the buyer does so I know the sale is complete and you are happy. Should any issue arise with your purchase, please contact me so that we can work things out. Feedback is very important to all of us, as it allows us to keep the bad apples out of eBay for both buyer and seller.  Not only do I sell on eBay but I buy quite a bit, too.  It seems a majority of bad feedback results from lack of communication.  I ask that before you leave feedback you discuss your issue with me.  There is always a common ground solution that can be reached.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: I love my international buyers and most of my listings are available for purchase to worldwide customers.  I do appreciate if you bid as an international buyer you send me a message before hand.  This allows me to get an estimate on shipping and it shows me you are a real interested buyer.  For whatever reason many new buyers without feedback are bidding on items that they never pay for.  That will let me know your serious and will get me working out the details before the auction ends.   If a listed item is not available internationally (usually due to weight), please contact me prior to bidding so that we can look at shipping costs and reach an agreement prior to purchase.

Toyota reports huge quarterly profit increase, raises forecast for the year

Sun, 04 Aug 2013

Toyota isn't just the world's largest automaker - so far its the biggest winner for quarterly profits. With an enormous $5.5 billion take during Q2, Toyota took advantage of the weak Japanese yen and strong US demand to record a 94-percent improvement in profit over the same period from last year. So far, Toyota brought in larger profits than Ford and General Motors combined.
Toyota is showing no signs of slowing down either, as it has bumped up its forecast for full-year global production, going from 9.94 million to 10.12 million vehicles, on the back of a 13-percent drop in the buying power of the Japanese yen versus the US dollar. That strong exchange rate is largely responsible for Toyota's big jump in profits, although it also managed to shift 1.3 million vehicles in the US market this year. Strong Camry sales have also helped. But while Toyota is raking in the cash, it actually saw a small drop in market share, down 0.1 percent to 14.3 percent of the US market.
As is the case with most automakers, Toyota seems flummoxed by Europe, where it recorded less than one percent of its revenue. Still, as Automotive News points out, Toyota only maintains a 4.5-percent market share in Europe and is far less dependent on the continent than other manufacturers. Toyota also struggled at home, much like Honda. With 525,777 units sold, JDM sales were down almost 51,000 units, although Toyota still saw its operating profit jump from $3.5 billion to $4.6 billion.

Here We Go Again: Lexus attacks EVs in new ad [UPDATE]

Wed, Sep 10 2014

UPDATE: We got a comment from founding member of Plug In America Paul Scott on this ad. It's available below. The last time Lexus attacked plug-in battery vehicles in an ad, it had to apologize. The company is remaining on message, though, and has revisited a hybrid-vehicle advertising campaign that implies that driving a battery-electric vehicle is a big waste of time, because of all the charging you need to do. With the new spot, Lexus once again raised hackles of plug-in vehicle advocates because, once again, the accuracy is questioned. "The ad's message was that a consumer could [drive] a vehicle with advanced technology today, without sacrifice or change in habit." – Lexus spokesman Brian Bolain Lexus is running print ads (click to enlarge) in publications like Wired poking fun at EVs, the International Business Times says. Lexus highlights range anxiety in the spot, comparing the amount of time it takes to fully recharge an EV – and the idea that air conditioning and using the radio can shorten an EV's range – to the fun of just driving a Lexus. "The [print] ad was merely intended to paint a picture of life with a hybrid, which is basically no different from life with a traditional gas-powered vehicle, versus life with an EV, which can have challenges or at least uncertainties," Lexus spokesman Brian Bolain told AutoblogGreen. "In other words, at its core, the ad's message was that a consumer could participate in driving a vehicle with advanced technology today, without sacrifice or change in habit." The campaign picks up where Lexus's previous anti-EV campaign left off this spring. A website promoting Lexus's hybrids (and parent company Toyota's H2 vehicles) claimed that there was a hydrogen refueling infrastructure set up in 20 US states (not anywhere close to true). Plug-in advocates were also quick to note that higher-powered EV recharging systems can allow a plug-in to be recharged in far less than the four hours the Lexus site claimed. Of course, Toyota has a lot more skin in the game when it comes to hybrids and, starting next year, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles than it does for plug-ins. Through August, the company sold just 842 RAV4 EVs and about 11,500 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrids in the US. That compares to almost 19,000 Nissan Leaf EVs and a Tesla Model S count that's likely close to that figure as well (Tesla breaks out neither monthly sales numbers nor US-only sales for the Model S).

How the demise of Lincoln's Town Car has kick-started a limo revolution

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

The deaths of the Ford Crown Victoria and the Lincoln Town Car have meant overhauls of three high-profile American fleets: police, taxi and livery car. Just as police fleets are more open to considering other options and a Nissan van is the new face of the NYC taxi, livery car companies are looking at replacements for the Town Car beyond The Blue Oval. Ford, via Lincoln, has made an MKT Town Car (pictured), but an article in the Detroit News claims "it has failed to win over most of the big limousine companies." The upstarts trying to move in include livery and limo editions of the Cadillac XTS, and livery specifications of the Toyota Avalon and Chrysler 300.
Each of those challengers, however, faces challenges. The Town Car was a workhorse, American, rear-wheel-drive sedan with plenty of rear legroom. Cadillac has been in the livery space before but with decontented models that were about selling the brand, not its luxury. It is taking the opposite approach with the XTS, pointing out that its livery edition is "contented in the upper half of the XTS range." Still, the CEO of Michigan's largest livery company says "it's quite a bit smaller than what we're used to," and he also prefers rear-wheel drive.
The Chrysler 300 is rear-wheel drive, and American, which matters to some companies, but Chrysler hasn't yet revealed the livery package for it. The livery Avalon marks Toyota's first time getting into that business in the US, a natural step after having done so well with taxi clients and with the Town Car out of the way. Still, the livery client is a different to taxi buyers, so the Avalon could face other soft-touch hurdles.
