DO NOT BID ON THIS CAR IF YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS AND INTEND TO PURCHASE.  This is not a fire sale it was difficult for the owner to make the decision to sell her car.  Her husband, one of my very best friends, passed away a few months ago and she is selling the MR2 because their SUV is currently more practical.  So please don't play games.  If you want a "buy it now" email me with a phone number.

I am listing this car for the original owner, a very close family friend.  The car was purchased new by her and has been well cared for as the photos will indicate.

As noted in the "defects area the only item on this car requiring attention is the front facia which has the usual damage inflicted by years of driving.  We considered repainting the front facia prior to selling (cost of $350) but then the question of damage or an accident could be asked.  So take a look at the photos, repainting the facia will bring the cars finish to a very nice level.

This car has never been in an accident and drives straight and stops true.  The motor and drive train has been well maintained with regular service and only minor maintenance items needed during its life such as a MAP sensor and Oxygen sensor replacement.  The water pump was replaced as well as the usual belts, brake pads and service items.  The car retains its original clutch and shifts as it should.   I do not know the life of a clutch in an MR2 but there is no slippage or chatter indicating a need for service.

New rear tires were installed at 116,877 miles and front tires have about 60% wear remaining.  A new top was installed in May of 2012 at a cost of $1620.00.  The fit is perfect.

The interior is in excellent condition with no dash cracks, no fading and just the normal wear on the seats with no tears.  The car was always garage kept and is owned by a non-smoker.  Everything on the car works as it should.

There are no defects, rock chips in the windshield or door glass

While there are some tiny marks on the wheels there is no "curb rash" where the wheels have been ground against a curb.

If you are looking for a very clean and desirable ONE OWNER MR2 requiring very little effort to make it a near perfect example this is the car for you.  The car shows like one with half the miles.  You will not be disappointed.

I invite and recommend a personal inspection.  The car is located in Mission Viejo, California.  While I have endeavored to describe this vehicle as accurately as possible I once again recommend a personal inspection and am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Please do not bid on this car unless you have the ability to complete the transaction.  By bidding you are committed to purchase if you are the winning bidder and you should consider this a binding contract.

There is no warranty expressed or implied.

This vehicle is advertised locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason.

J.D. Power study sees new car dependability problems increase for first time since 1998

Wed, 12 Feb 2014

For the first time since 1998, J.D. Power and Associates says its data shows that the average number of problems per 100 cars has increased. The finding is the result of the firm's much-touted annual Vehicle Dependability Study, which charts incidents of problems in new vehicle purchases over three years from 41,000 respondents.
Looking at first-owner cars from the 2011 model year, the study found an average of 133 problems per 100 cars (PP100, for short), up 6 percent from 126 PP100 in last year's study, which covered 2010 model-year vehicles. Disturbingly, the bulk of the increase is being attributed to engine and transmission problems, with a 6 PP100 boost.
Interestingly, JDP notes that "the decline in quality is particularly acute for vehicles with four-cylinder engines, where problem levels increase by nearly 10 PP100." Its findings also noticed that large diesel engines also tended to be more problematic than most five- and six-cylinder engines.

Giving Vanilla A Good Name
"Vanilla." Taken in modern context, that's not a compliment, but it should be. Vanilla actually has exotic origins, and as spices go, only saffron is more costly. Despite the realities, calling something "vanilla" is not whistling in admiration. The Toyota Camry has been called "vanilla" countless times since its debut, but both the car and the bean have something up their sleeves.
Scoff all you want, but vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor, and there is no mainstream sedan that outsells the Camry. Apparently, vanilla has an underlying tinge of filthy lucre. We didn't feel rich, exactly, wheeling around in the Camry Hybrid, but we came away impressed, nonetheless.

Toyota will steer clear of driverless cars

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

Toyota executives say the company's primary focus is on safety. At least for the time being, that means the company won't pursue development of a driverless car.
Speaking at the company's advanced safety seminar in Ypsilanti, MI, Thursday morning, Seigo Kuzumaki, Toyota's deputy chief safety technology officer, said that Toyota envisions a future driving environment that optimizes the best of both humans and computers, not choosing one over the other.
"Toyota's main objective is safety, so it will not be developing a driverless car." - Seigo Kuzumaki
