1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo/T-top in excellent condition

A very rare and exceptional car with an extremely low 63,521 miles

Exterior:   This MR2 is featured in triple black with the desired turbo engine and T-top features.  The car has spent all of its life in the southern/mid-west region and was recently delivered from Green's Toyota in Lexington, Kentucky.  Exterior is in very good condition with no dents or dings.  Still sporting its original tuxedo black paint, the finish has little or no fading, any imperfections are limited to a small number of minor stone marks that are too small to appear in the photographs.

Interior:  The interior has been perfectly preserved with no rips, tears or cracks.  All the gauges, switches, lights and dials are fully operational -- the LCD clock keeps perfect time.  A "Greedy" brand boost gauge has been added along with an updated JVC am/fm/cd quadraphonic stereo system, otherwise the interior is in original, unmarked condition.

Features:  Pampered its entire life, this MR2 also comes equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, power windows & door locks, power mirrors and fully charged A/C.  The car has recently had its 60,000 mile service including the installation of new timing belt and alternator along with a full tune up.  It runs, drives and handles just the way it is supposed to with no issues.  Tires are in great shape with more than 70% tread remaining.  Original owners manual and service receipts are included.

Engineering:  The 2nd generation MR2 is capable of delivering close to super-car performance with styling inspired by the Ferrari 355.  Following its introduction in 1991, the MR2 quickly became nicknamed ''the baby Ferrari''. Toyota engineers equipped the car with solid performance features and gave it very exotic looks that always turn heads on the street. The 2-liter turbo develops 200 horsepower, 200 foot-pounds of torque and 0-to-60 times of less than 6 seconds, while delivering gas mileage between 17 - 29 mpg

Collectability:  If you have always wanted a 2nd generation MR2, it would be very, very difficult to locate one as nice as this.  These cars were only produced for the American market for a few years and pristine examples such as this are almost impossible to find .. they are sure to become a collector classic that will only appreciate in value.

Terms of Sale:  Car is sold as is where is with no warranties express or implied.  Winning bidder to provide $1,000 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of auction close, full balance of payments within 7 days of auction close.  Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs.  Seller will make the car available for pick up in Victor, NY or anywhere within 20 miles of that location AFTER ALL PAYMENTS ARE RECEIVED AND PURCHASE FUNDS ARE CONFIRMED.

*Seller reserves the right to end the auction early

Toyota Camry, Honda Civic inventories mounting as US automakers make inroads

Thu, 11 Jul 2013

Two of the hottest-selling cars in America aren't quite as hot as they used to be. The Toyota Camry and Honda Civic are both seeing dealer supplies increase in the face of renewed competition from the much-improved Detroit Three.
According to a report from The Detroit News, the Camry's dealer inventory is 15 days higher than its seasonal average, while the Civic is 25 days above average. Things aren't expected to get better for Toyota and Honda, as RBC Capital Markets analyst Joseph Spak marked the two Japanese offerings as "at risk for reduced output."
The Detroit Three, meanwhile, are seeing supplies dwindle as demand increases, especially for the Ford Fusion, which has seen an 18-percent increase in 2013 sales, and the Chevrolet Cruze, which was second only to the Camry in June 2013 sales.

Japanese dealer petitioning Lexus for luxury van [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Used to be that if you wanted a luxury automobile - especially one to be chauffeured around in - your choices were basically limited to a sedan. It could be bigger or smaller, more or less expensive, depending on your needs and budget, but it was always going to have four doors and a trunk. But these days the rich and famous are looking elsewhere for their commodious forms of pampering transportation. There are, of course, the crossovers and SUVs, which only seem to be getting bigger and more expensive thanks to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Range Rover L and upcoming Bentley sport-ute. But luxury vans are becoming the new big thing.
That's the point that one dealer in Japan is trying to make to Toyota. The dealership owner himself reasons that if he's going out on the town, he's likely to take his chauffeured Lexus LS. But if he's taking a few friends along, even the biggest sedan isn't going to cut it. So he takes a Toyota Alphard (pictured above, also known as the Vellfire), a JDM van that's even bigger than a Voxy/Noah or Sienna but hardly a high-end affair. That's why he's asking Lexus to make a luxury van.
The idea may seem a little far-fetched, but isn't without precedent. It didn't take much for Lexus to transform the Land Cruiser into the LX and thus create its first luxury SUV. And as Mercedes has shown with pimped-out versions of the Sprinter and now with the debut of the new V-Class in Geneva, there's clearly a market for it... in some countries, anyway. The only question in our minds is how long it's going to take other luxury automakers to catch on, because let's face it: the Chrysler Town & Country ain't gonna cut it for those used to be driven around in a Maybach.

White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.
