This is either a great truck to do a little bit of work on and immediately take out and bang up on the trail or a start of a project! I bought it a few months ago so I could take the original F type motor, the heater parts and a few other parts put in a 73 FJ 40 I have that has a 350 in it. As is often the case, I have bitten off too much and I don't have time or energy to to go through with it. I'm in the middle of bringing a 72 FJ 55 back to life so something has to go. That is why I am selling this truck.

So...here is what you get that is good:

  • Strong & solid running F type motor, choke works, starts a bit rough but give it a simple tune up and it would start right up. I took the air cleaner assembly off but it does come with the truck. Properly functioning transfer case & transmission. 2 WD High/4 WD High & Low all work. The clutch is working but needs adjusting or eventually replaced. Motor, trans & transfer can go for $1,500 plus
  • Working breaks with new master cylinder, newer wheel cylinders in back and a couple new break lines. I just was trying to get the breaks working which I did so didn't do anything to drums or shoes.
  • Front & rear heater
  • Ok top. Some rust on back left and top has one spot that needs a little fiber glass repair. No headliner. Glass is all good and the back swing up window is in good shape and works. Tops alone can bring $400 to $900+.
  • Good doors with no rust, good glass, right vent glass hinge is broken but an easy fix. Registers are stiff but a little work and they would be fine. Doors go for $175 to $275 easily.
  • Good windshield glass no wiper motor.
  • Dash is cracked but not ridiculous, most of knobs are intact and I have the glove box door and ash tray.
  • Seats are way above average but could use some work and are extremely solid as a base for refurbishing. No head rests
  • Roll bar & seat belt

Here is what you get that isn't good:

  • Rust! It looks like this truck lived in northern Michigan and spent plenty of time in Canada so you can imagine. There is a rust through spot on the frame but everything considered not too bad and is pretty straight forward fix.
  • needs taillights and front marker lights.
Bottom line is that there are a lot of good parts on this truck or you could use it as a start of a project or just have a solid trail rig...? I'm a Cruiser enthusiast so know what it is worth to the right person. I also don't want anyone to buy it without completely understanding what they are getting into. Please e-mail questions and I will answer ASAP. I need this truck gone. I will help with shipping and have a couple reliable companies I have worked with.

Thanks Kevin

Scion pondering move upmarket?

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

Scion is simultaneously celebrating its ten-year anniversary with the 10 Series models and trying to figure out what to do with itself over the next ten years. Once a go-to consideration for young, first-time buyers who wanted something cool and different, in 2013 it has a model everyone is still talking about in the FR-S, a model few are still talking about in the iQ, and three models in between in the tC, xB and xD that make everyone wonder, "What happened?"
Automotive News spoke to Toyota's North American CEO, Jim Lentz - he was the VP in charge of Scion when it launched - about the options, and Lentz said one of them could be a move upmarket to challenge the established luxury brands that are moving downmarket. "There's going to be a big need in the $25,000 range for a fun-to-drive, nice-looking, value-oriented product," he said, and the FR-S, which starts at $25,255, could provide the platform for Scion to climb up a notch or two in price and perception. An idea like this could conceivably work in tandem with a proposal to move entry-level Scion products over to the Toyota brand - but remember, this is all just ideas on a whiteboard at the moment.
As opposed to an "entry-luxury fighter," the brand could swing back to the other option that was considered when it was formed, directly challenging the Korean makes that have usurped its cachet with first-time buyers. Lentz said Scion could go either way, and the tone of the piece seems to indicate that the final direction is still a ways away from being resolved.

Honda Civic losing ground to Toyota Corolla, sales crown threatened

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Oh, what a difference a year has made. When the numbers were tallied for 2013, the Honda Civic was riding high by claiming its segment's sales crown in the US despite being challenged by the latest generation of the Toyota Corolla for part of the year. However, with just a month to go in the battle for C-segment supremacy in 2014, it looks like Toyota gets to hoist the trophy this time. Looking at November sales numbers, Honda moved 300,644 Civics through the first 11 months of the year, down 2.1 percent in volume. Furthermore, for the month alone, the company sold 23,060 Civics, a 12.3 percent drop. Meanwhile, on Toyota's side, business has been booming comparatively. Through the first 11 months it sold 309,373 Corollas, a 10.6 percent jump, and for November alone it moved 25,609 examples, a 14.2 percent improvement. With fewer than 10,000 cars between them, it would take quite a December slump for the Corolla to lose this fight. According to The Truth About Cars, the Civic actually started out the 2014 somewhat positively with 5 percent growth over the previous year, though still behind the Corolla's figures. However, the Honda has seen a slide since then with five consecutive months of sales drops. Meanwhile, the Toyota has generally kept showing growth. Being the newer model of the two, the Corolla comes to this fight with an advantage. Honda hasn't let the Civic languish; it gave the model a CVT in 2014 to boost fuel economy. That's nothing like the Toyota's thorough recent rethink, though. According to TTAC, Honda does have reason to crow about the Civic, just not necessarily in the US. The model is on track to be the bestselling vehicle in Canada for the 17th consecutive year and have its best sales since 2008 there.

Toyota confirms i-Road electric trike for production

Tue, 08 Oct 2013

The wacky, three-wheeled Toyota i-Road we saw in Geneva earlier this year will be heading to production. But before you run down to your local Toyota dealer looking for one of these all-electric "personal mobility" vehicles, chances are, you'll never actually see one unless you visit Japan.
Announced at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (CEATEC) expo last week, Toyota said that the i-Road would be used as a part of the Ha:Mo car-sharing system in Japan. Weighing in at around 661 pounds, with a 28-mile-per-hour top speed and a two-passenger seating arrangement, the i-Road seems more like a fully enclosed scooter than a car, but it does offer a 30-mile driving range and has a nifty articulating front suspension that leans into corners. As for Ha:Mo, Toyota says that the number of cars in the program will increase from 10 prior to October 1 to 100 by the middle of this month, and the number of stations will almost double from 13 up to 21. Toyota has more details about the car and Ha:Mo in the press release posted below.
