The rarest of the rare medium wheelbase 40 series Land Cruisers. The only model with a forward facing rear bench seat. Being a 1981 BJ44V, this is the preferred late model cruiser with front discs, factory a/c, incredible L-Package (aka LX Package) cloth with vinyl interior, 4spd transmission, and the very rare cabin controlled factory PTO winch. Further L-Package compents are the white steel wheels, chrome grill and bumpers, and chrome license plate lights. This rig has spent 99% of it's life with the owner of a resort hotel on Lake Akan in Hokkaido Japan. The doors still have the pre-delivery plastic covering the door cards, the floors are covered in custom cut and stitched plastic and carpet on top of it. The factory matting is under that and the pristine floor below it. All seats have full seat covers that may or may not be Toyota items but they are definitely vintage. This is why this truck is in the amazing condition along with it's very limited use. We were advised it was used as a snow plow and likely ferried guests to some choice spots near the lake. Finding any 40 series Land Cruiser, be it a FJ40 or FJ45 etc..., in this amazing original condition is almost unheard of. Although production numbers are unknown, the BJ44V was only produced from 1980-1982 based the information available. The Freeborn red paint is in fantastic shape as is the 033 white on the roof. There are a few very small touch-ups mostly along the drip rail. The chassis has been painted in places but was applied as preventative protection rather than to cover up rust/corrosion. This vehicle is likely one the cleanest most original land cruisers left. The local Atlanta Land Cruiser specialists, ACC Toyota, made the same determination. Noting there are rubber flaps around the radiator and other components that are rarely found intact let alone in the "time warp" condition as on this truck. Actual VIN is BJ44004631 and is too short for eBay. Vehicle will be sold with the following documentation. Original manual with service records.

Mazda's new Mexican plant capacity rises to 230,000

Sat, 05 Jan 2013

After the turmoil of last year, 2013 is getting off to a much better start for Mazda. The company has issued a release indicating that the forthcoming plant in Salamanca, Mexico has had its production capacity raised even though it isn't scheduled to go online until March 2014. The original plans called for a 140,000-unit capacity, 90,000 of that allotted for the Mazda2 and Mazda3, the remaining 50,000 for a small car Mazda would build for Toyota that would be based on the Mazda2. The new plans call for raising that by 90,000 units to a total of 230,000 units within two years, by the end of March 2016, and it looks like it will all go toward Mazda production to satisfy growing demand for Skyactiv vehciles. The Mexican plant's opening will be the return of Mazda manufacturing to North America, after Mazda6 production was moved back to Japan last year.
More good news for the company is that it projects 10 billion yen ($114 million) in net income for the financial year that will end in March. That would be a welcome turnaround from the 100-billion-yen loss in the previous financial year, part of a series of three annual losses in a four-year span.
You'll find the press release with the factory update below.

Toyota, Lexus dominate KBB's Best Resale Value Awards

Tue, 19 Nov 2013

Toyota and Lexus stormed the 2014 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards, winning a combined 18 categories including best brand and best luxury brand. This marks the third year in a row that both automakers have won the Brand and Luxury Brand resale value awards. In all, Toyota won 11 categories and Lexus won seven.
Honda made a good showing, as well, winning two segments (Accord Plug-In Hybrid and Civic Si) and putting one car on the top-10 Best Resale Value list (CR-V). Chevrolet did even better, winning two segments (with the V6 Camaro and the Corvette) and placing three cars on the top-10-overall list (again, the Camaro and Corvette, plus the Silverado 1500).
The other winners came from Jeep, Dodge, Infiniti, Subaru and Audi. To give you a clearer picture of the Toyota and Lexus domination, their 18 mentions represents more than half of the 34 awards (including the top-10-overall list).

Watch this video diary of a 900-hp Toyota Supra build

Sat, 08 Jun 2013

If you've ever looked at a car with nearly 1,000 horsepower and wondered why anyone needs that amount of thrust, you may want to take a look at the video below. In it, one gentleman details his descent into Toyota Supra madness, starting with a pristine factory example and stumbling down the rabbit hole of modification. What makes this particular clip interesting is just how honest the owner is as he explains the evolution of his car. He doesn't just prattle off a list of parts like he's reading the menu at an IHOP.
Instead, he painstakingly pulls us through the car's growth, detailing each iteration and what pushed him to the next stage of the build every time. From this point of view, it looks less like someone walked into a shop and lit a massive stack of $100 bills on fire and more like a quasi-logical progression of events. Or at least it does to me. You can check out the build in the video below, complete with plenty of Fast and the Furious references and racing. Win, win, win.
