1976 FJ40 -Great Driver with Original Paint
Contact me at (515) 864-1275 or email overton@aol.com One of the best 4x4 vehicles the world had ever seen. What was Far became Near.
I call this truck "Ol' Blue". She's a very solid survivor and you could driver her every day, turn the key and she bursts to life and is ready to go. This 1976 Land Cruiser FJ40 was owned by a retired mechanic and has been well maintained. The original engine runs great, transmission shifts smooth in 4-wheel high and low and the brakes will lock up the tires if needed. You're looking at the original paint and hand painted pinstripes. There are those of us that appreciate the value on these original trucks. If you are one of these people, you will appreciate this Sky Blue 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. You can see exactly what you are getting here. There's some rust but she's a pretty straight forward restoration if you want to bring her back her original condition.
A little Land Cruiser history - 1976 was a great year for the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. By this time the Land Cruiser included a 4-speed transmission, bucket seats, roll bar, ambulance doors in the rear that replaced the old lift/tailgate, larger square front turn signals and side markers. Wipers were moved to bottom of windshield. 4:11 gearing provided excellent off road performance. Front disk brakes replaced earlier drum brakes. (End of History lesson)
Details & Condition
The floors up front and in the cargo area are solid and retain the the original sound and heat barrier applied by Toyota. The rear cargo floor under the factory rear mat is solid as well. Other than the need for new upholstery and a headliner, the interior is in excellent condition. Everything works as it should with the exception of the odometer. The front and rear heaters, turn signals, hazards, headlight high and low beams, wipers, windshield washer, taillights, backup lights, license plate lights, speedometer, fuel, oil, amp and temp gauges are all functioning. Nestled between the front seats is the original metal console. The dash pad and door panels have no rips or tears. The headliner has been removed. The original front seats have sheepskins and the original upholstery will need replacement on front and rear seats.
This Land Cruiser has the original 135 horsepower 2F six cylinder which runs great! Based on General Motor's stalwart Stovebolt Six, Toyota's famous overhead valve mill has certainly proven its ability to take this compact 4x4 exploring the furthest reaches of the wilderness. I would not hesitate to drive take this FJ40 on a long journey. The suspension, which consists of rugged solid axles and OEM leaf springs at both ends is raised slightly due to newer extended shackles. Under it all you will find non-OEM black spoke steel wheels in excellent condition with WARN locking hubs surrounded by Durango Radial 31x10.50 tires that have a a long life ahead of them. Hanging on the swing out rear tire carrier is matching spare tire. The truck comes with the original rear jump seats, jack and lug nut wrench.
All in all, a solid and well maintained Land Cruiser. I have a modest reserve on her and she will reward you handsomely if you choose to restore Ol' Blue. Get used to people following you around to get a better look. If you don’t like attention, don’t drive this. High bidder is responsible for pick up or delivery, I will assist in any way I can. I would like a wire transfer within 7 business days please. Clear title in hand. FJ40’s like this continue to appreciate and if well cared for, are better than Mutual Fund and WAY MORE FUN! I encourage you to call me at (515) 864 1275 or email overton@aol.com and thanks for looking! I reserve the right to end this Auction early, (which is usually what happens). If you know FJ40’s, you know what your looking at and what the potential is. This is a nice honest Land Cruiser FJ40. Photography |

Toyota and Mazda in talks to build joint US auto plant
Fri, Aug 4 2017UPDATE: The Toyota-Mazda deal has been announced. A newer version of this story appears here. Toyota Motor Corp and rival Mazda Motor Corp are expected to announce plans on Friday to launch a joint venture and build a new U.S. assembly plant, a person briefed on the matter said. A new auto plant would be a major boost to U.S. President Donald Trump, who campaigned on promises to boost manufacturing and expand employment for American autoworkers. Japan's Nikkei reported on Thursday that Toyota would take a roughly five-percent stake in Mazda Motor Corp to develop key electric vehicle technologies and jointly build a factory in the United States. The deal could be announced as soon as Friday, the newspaper said. The person briefed on the matter, who was not authorized to speak to the media and requested anonymity, confirmed the Japanese carmakers were planning to build a large plant in a yet to be determined U.S. location and planned future joint efforts on electric vehicles. The same source declined to offer further details, however. Toyota, in a statement, said the two companies have been exploring various areas of collaboration under a May 2015 agreement. "We intend to submit a proposal to our board of directors today regarding the partnership with Mazda, however, we would like to refrain from providing further comment at this time," Toyota said in a statement issued by its U.S. operations. Mazda said in statement that "nothing has been decided yet" and added the company "will have a board meeting on this matter today. We cannot comment any further." Toyota, the world's second-largest automaker by vehicle sales in 2016 and Japan's dominant car company, has been forging alliances with smaller Japanese rivals for several years, effectively consolidating the Japanese auto sector. A new U.S. assembly plant would likely become the prize in a fierce competition among Midwestern and Southern states eager to expand manufacturing jobs. Trump in January criticized Toyota for importing cars to the United States from Mexico. The Republican president also threatened to impose a hefty fee on Toyota if it were to build its Corolla cars for the U.S. market at a plant in Mexico. "Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for U.S. NO WAY! Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax," Trump said in a post on Twitter. But since January, Trump has praised Toyota for its U.S. investments.
Best plug-in hybrid cars, SUVs and minivans for 2024
Tue, Aug 6 2024We’re fans of electric vehicles, but they have their shortcomings. TheyÂ’re not available in as wide of a range of body styles as gas-powered cars, and theyÂ’re still limited by range and charging infrastructure. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) offer a great compromise, though, allowing for all-electric driving, but also having a gas engine for when you need more power or to travel long distances. Choosing a plug-in hybrid vehicle also allows more options; for instance, you canÂ’t get an all-electric minivan in the U.S. Â… yet. But with those extra PHEV offerings, it might be difficult to know where to start shopping. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down a bit, bringing you the best plug-in hybrids for 2024, as voted on by Autoblog staff, in various segments to help you pick a great PHEV based on your budget and needs. Best luxury plug-in hybrid large/midsize SUV: Volvo XC90 Recharge Despite showing its age, the Volvo XC90 remains an excellent three-row crossover in terms of design, comfort and safety, and the XC90 Recharge plug-in hybrid only improves the formula with both power and efficiency. Interestingly, with the gas motor powering the front axle and the e-motor powering the rear, the XC90 Recharge operates as a rear-wheel-drive car when only using electric power, and front-wheel-drive when only using gas. The powertrain is good for 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque, with a 5-second 0-60 time. It can travel 32 miles on electricity alone. Runner-up: Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid  Best mainstream plug-in hybrid large/midsize SUV: Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Do you want an American PHEV with style, refinement and off-road capability? The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe combines all that with a turbocharged 2.0-liter and electric motor good for 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, as well as an electric range of 26 miles. That means you can enjoy your favorite trails in near silence and make fewer trips to the gas pump on the way there. Runner-up: Kia Sorento Plug In-Hybrid  Best luxury plug-in hybrid compact/subcompact SUV: Volvo XC60 Recharge Volvo borrows the formula from the XC90 and places it in a smaller package to get the XC60 Recharge. It has the same 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque, but it drops the 0-60 time to 4.5 seconds while offering 35 miles of electric range. You can even pony up for the Polestar Engineered trim to get the Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, 21-inch forged wheels and unique styling.
Toyota Land Cruiser vs Lexus LX 570 Suspension Flex Test
Thu, May 21 2020There’s no need to explain the Toyota Land Cruiser, one of ToyotaÂ’s earliest successful products. The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition celebrates some 60 years of popularity of a vehicle that has survived the segmentÂ’s “mall wagon” phase and the rise of crossovers. Its already-sterling reputation has received an additional recent push from the rise of overlanding — an outdoor pastime that has always existed but only recently got a press agent. By comparison, the Lexus LX is a more recent development. Debuting in 1996, the LX 450 was little more than an 80-series Land Cruiser with cladding, a Lexus badge and a higher price. The amount of styling differentiation and luxury specialization has increased over the years to the point that the newest LX 570 actually seems like a completely different vehicle. In truth, the 2020 Lexus LX 570 and the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser are both 200-series Land Cruisers under the skin. They share the same thirsty 5.7-liter V8 engine and the same frame that features a double-wishbone suspension at the front, a five-link coil spring suspension at the rear and a 112.2-inch wheelbase in the middle. The styling is strikingly different, of course, but so are the hidden details of their suspensions. The Land Cruiser employs a simple set of coil springs and shock absorbers, but with an interconnected pair of automatically disconnecting stabilizer bars called KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System). The Lexus, on the other hand, has fixed stabilizer bars and coil springs, but its “shocks” are really hydraulic cylinders that perform height adjustments and transmit suspension movements via piping to remote electronically-adjustable damper valves mounted along the frame rails. All of the above begs a question: Which of them will go farther up my RTI ramp and, by extension, offer better suspension articulation in an authentic off-road situation? Right away, the very approach to the ramp demonstrates a huge difference and a serious issue for the LX. Its normal cruising height (there is a lower height, but this isnÂ’t that) doesnÂ’t provide enough approach clearance to attempt the ramp. The front spoiler contacts the nasty grating before the tire does. ItÂ’s a close-run thing, but from this point on, clearance gets SMALLER as the left front suspension compresses on the way up. If it's touching now, itÂ’s only going to get worse if I go forward.
