Back in the 1950's the american army contacted the Toyota Motor Corporation with a request for a 4WD vehicle to be used by the soldiers and military police stationed in Japan. Toyota took the request seriously. The result: the Land Cruiser, a literary bullet proof vehicle.
1983 FJ 40 with factory power steering;its VIN is FJ40361343.
Any one who knows and understands the Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers, realizes that the 1983 FJ40 is the "Holy Grail" of the FJ40's. This 117.000 Kilometers (73K Miles) original mile has been lightly used over its 30 year life span. It is a very complete example of the famed Toyota Land Cruiser line. As the photos show, this FJ40 has not been altered and is in very nice original condition. It starts easily, runs perfectly and is very strong cruising at 65 - 70 mph with ease. This FJ40 is a dream off-road machine and will satisfy any vintage four-wheel drive enthusiast.
As described this FJ40 is stunning and turns heads wherever it goes. This model/year is the last one imported and rarest with only 300 brought-in in 1983.
I imported this vehicle from Colombia (South America) and had it professionally painted by one of the most recognized classic car's restorers down there. It was painted inside, outside engine compartment and underneath. The vehicle was kept in original condition. I just added A/C bought at Cool Cruisers in Texas.
Doors shut tight and do not squeak or rattle.
The bottom of this truck is completely smooth, painted, and ready to shown with mirrors underneath. The frame is completely painted, floor pans are painted, smooth and waxed. Please email with any questions or for more photos.
This classic vehicle is being sold as-is,where is,with no warranty expressed written,or implied. Toyota Auris gets new Touring Sports variant
Tue, 19 Feb 2013Toyota showed off the Touring Sports version of the Auris next to the newly introduced Auris Hybrid at last year's Paris Motor Show, but didn't say much about it. Six months later, just ahead of the Geneva Motor Show, the company is crowing about that wagon going on sale with the Hybrid Synergy Drive, creating the Auris Touring Sports Hybrid.
The hauling version of the exceptionally popular Auris hatchback doesn't just add a hybrid wagon to the compact segment, Toyota says it offers class-leading load capacity of 1,658 liters with the Easy-Flat one-touch rear seats down. With the rear seats up, it offers 530 liters. The little big gulp is possible because the hybrid batteries have been placed under the rear seats instead of being in the luggage area.
It looks the same as the hatchback save for the fact that it's 285 millimeters (11.2 inches) longer behind the C pillar, has a redesigned tailgate and a lower load floor. Engines beyond the hybrid will match the rest of the lineup: 1.3-liter and 1.6-liter gasoline engines and a 1.4-liter D-4D diesel. There's a chance we'll see it in Geneva, if we don't there's a press release below to tell you all about it.
Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"
Mon, 03 Dec 2012The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.
MotorWeek remembers retro icons, Supra and NSX
Thu, 16 Oct 2014It's easy to poke a joke here and there about John Davis, the long-time host of MotorWeek. His voice is so monotonous that, from time to time, if you closed your eyes, you may think it's generated via a computer. But you have to give him and the rest of the show a lot of credit. The program has been on the air for decades, giving people direct, straight-down-the middle automotive reviews.
MotorWeek's massive back catalog of reviews are slowly making their way onto YouTube, and they provide a fascinating chance to look back on how performance cars rank against their contemporaries from back in the day. Two recent additions include the show's old looks at the 1986 Toyota Supra, the dawn of the third-generation model, and the now-iconic 1991 Acura NSX.
Both reviews are interesting in their own way. These days you hear nary a negative word about the original NSX, but MotorWeek isn't afraid to point out a few flaws. And the Supra really shows the progress of suspension tuning in the intervening decades because it has some serious body roll in the corners. Scroll down to check out both videos and get a blast from the automotive past.
