This FJ40 is the result of a "no limits" one of a kind custom build completed in our shop. Aside from the vintage frame, VIN and title the whole vehicle has been built with new parts from the ground up. It has been driven approximately 500 miles for road testing and fine-tuning to make sure it is 100% reliable.
The body consists of an aircraft aluminum tub made by Aqualu, the tailgate and doors are also aqualu units. The body has been professionally painted in Arctic white PPG BC/CC. Frame, roll cage and suspension are powder coated for durability and long lasting good looks. Power comes from a 2007 Chevy 5.3 HO all aluminum engine making over 330hp backed by a 4L65E transmission and Atlas II transfer case. Exhaust features a high temperature ceramic coating and a polished stainless muffler. The custom aluminum center console houses an Art Carr gate shifter and twin sticks for the Atlas as well as controls for the ARB front locker and on-board air compressor. The impressive roll cage is tied into the shock towers, rocker guards, and front hoop and the frame has been fully boxed for strength. Proffitt's cruisers built a custom toyota based front axle using mini truck knuckles, longfield's high strength axle joints,an ARB air locker and heat treated axles turned by billet high-steer arms. Front suspension is a custom radius arm setup using high strength ballistic joints and poly bushings. The front-end is controlled by a saginaw power steering conversion and 12" travel Bilstein remote reservoir shocks with dual rate coil springs. In the rear a custom axle was made using a high-pinion Dana 60 with reverse-cut 4.10 gears and a 35 spline detroit locker. a triangulated 4-link was employed with high strength spherical rod ends and a tubular axle gusset / mount. 14" travel remote reservoir coil-overs were used in the rear with a custom enclosed shock tower. Stopping power is more than adequate with 4-wheel power disc brakes: Toyota 4-piston calipers up front and GM single piston calipers in the rear with integral parking brake. Inside the cabin the engine is monitored by a full array of Autometer gauges. Heat and ice cold air conditioning are provided by a custom under-dash setup. The console is wrapped in black leather. Cobra racing seats are installed on a tubular mount, and an optima redtop battery powers the electricals from under the driver seat. Although this is a fully functional off-road vehicle, the build quality is stunning. Body, paint, interior and overall fit & finish are second to none. This FJ40 was built in our full service restoration / custom shop. If you are interested in this vehicle and would like some modifications or add-ons we will be happy to accommodate you. Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota
Wed, Feb 25 2015It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability. Toyota Camry, Honda Civic inventories mounting as US automakers make inroads
Thu, 11 Jul 2013Two of the hottest-selling cars in America aren't quite as hot as they used to be. The Toyota Camry and Honda Civic are both seeing dealer supplies increase in the face of renewed competition from the much-improved Detroit Three.
According to a report from The Detroit News, the Camry's dealer inventory is 15 days higher than its seasonal average, while the Civic is 25 days above average. Things aren't expected to get better for Toyota and Honda, as RBC Capital Markets analyst Joseph Spak marked the two Japanese offerings as "at risk for reduced output."
The Detroit Three, meanwhile, are seeing supplies dwindle as demand increases, especially for the Ford Fusion, which has seen an 18-percent increase in 2013 sales, and the Chevrolet Cruze, which was second only to the Camry in June 2013 sales.
2014 Toyota Corolla to bow before LA
Sat, 30 Mar 2013We've sort of been wondering when Toyota would finally debut the next-generation Corolla sedan, especially since the current car is getting very, very long in the tooth. We got a glimpse of the new compact's design at this year's Detroit Auto Show in the form of the Furia concept seen above, but we figured we'd see the production car by now.
According to Edmunds, Toyota will be unveiling the new Corolla sometime soon, and it won't wait until the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Officials from the Japanese automaker did not state a specific location or date for the new car's unveiling, but said that the 2014 Corolla is expected to be on sale before the LA expo later this year and that it will be revealed "somewhere in the US."
Toyota did not divulge any details about the new Corolla, and we're willing to bet that the aggressive lines of the Furia concept will be dulled down quite a bit for the production model. Still, news that the new car is coming sooner rather than later is indeed a good thing.
