BEAUTIFUL 1978 TOYOTA FJ40 LANDCRUISER ORIG ALPINE WHITE, ORIG PTO WINCH, CA CAR, image 1

Stunning 1978 Toyota FJ40 for sale with NO RESERVE. Final bid is the winner of this FJ...

Meet "CASPER "1978 fj40 landcruiser ... This is an exceptional well cared for truck and incredible find in great condition...equipped with Factory PTO winch ( power take off winch) and Toyota power steering.  Makes it easy to maneuver especially in tight parking spaces.

Original Alpine white paint that still sports its showroom shine... Original headliner, original Toyota floor mat, and rust free tub . Idles, drives, steers ,stops and everything works like it should.

Very strong 2F inline 6 cylinder engine paired with 4 speed manual transmission that shifts crisp and smooth.  1978 FJs had a more refined drivetrain and were quieter with higher gears for cruising.

It also has a new Old Man EMU suspension upgrade, brand new set of 5 tires 33"x 10.50/15 BFG tires including spare on all new stock Fj40 steelies and hub caps. Wheels and tires have less than 100 miles since install last week! H4 headlights helps see better at night.

Toyota fj40 is known for it's off road prowess ... A well engineered truck that put Toyota on the map. You can still find them running strong in the most remote parts of the world.  See video below for history.

1978 is a very desirable year in the fj40 evolution series with the thicker stronger rust resilient body. Equipped with  modern drivetrain technology that could keep up with today's cars.

1978 highlights-
*Larger 2F 4.2L 6 cylinder engine
*Two barrel carburetor and electronic ignition
*Four speed transmission with part-time four-wheel-drive transfer case
*Power assisted disc front brakes and rear drums

I can honestly say this Fj can effortlessly climb San Francisco hills and do 65-70 mph
on the freeway all day long ... The tranny shifts smooth and crisp
The original paint has lots of patina -touch ups and some small chips here and there but nothing major.

An original paint FJ is very difficult to find and you can search all over to find a no rust, no repaint example. This California FJ has been pampered.  Own it and drive it in its original condition as its sure to appreciate more in value. Lately survivor cars are very interesting and appealing to collectors compared to fully restored show cars.

Things to take note of- original headliner has a some sagging, original windshield small rock chip, radio not working.

Clean title in hand. Email for more info. Zero or low feedback bidders <5 please email me before bidding. Please only bid if you are serious in owning this FJ. Good luck!

Toyota mini doc chronicles Tundra towing Space Shuttle Endeavor

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

Toyota has worked up a quick video detailing the brand's involvement in the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour last year. As you may recollect, the California Science Center ran into a hitch when it came to moving Endeavour from LAX to its new home. While most of the route would be covered by a robotically controlled transporter, one portion of the route directed the shuttle over an interstate. Unfortunately, the bridge across wasn't designed to stand up to the weight of the shuttle and its motorized sled.
The Science Center would have to remove Endeavour from its transporter and place it on a lighter, non-motorized sled. That's where longtime Science Center sponsor Toyota came in. As it turns out, the automaker had to prove to the California Science Center that a Tundra could actually tow the massive shuttle, so engineers put on a little demonstration with a stock truck pulling the equivalent weight over flat ground for the same distance. Once the Science Center was satisfied that the Tundra could pull it off, the move was green lit and the rest is history. Check out the short documentary below for yourself.

Toyota 86 most likely to get more power through more displacement? [w/poll]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

The Sydney Morning Herald has spoken to Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the Toyota 86 (our version of it, the Scion FR-S, is pictured above), and they've been promised that more power is on the way. We've heard a lot of speculation about a more powerful Toyobaru since before the standard model was even launched. The only question now is how the power will be delivered, and among the engine concepts we've already heard about - turbo, supercharger, twin-charged, hybrid - is a new one: more displacement.
Tada said that an engine with more displacement than the current coupe's 2.0 liters is being tested alongside a turbocharged and a hybrid-assisted motor. The SMH cites "inside sources" as saying the displacement option is the one likely to get the go-ahead, and suggests increased bore and stroke will see the engine grow to 2.5 liters, horsepower to about 250 - a 50-hp increase over the present car.
While that's apparently the betting man's solution for the long-awaited increase in gumption, what happens with the next generation could be more wide open than we suspected. According to the report, Tada "hinted that [a successor] could be a radically different car, potentially dropping the boxer engine altogether." He said once they've sorted out the concept for the second generation car, then they'll sort out an engine. That's where a turbo option could come to market, perhaps the turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota is developing for the Lexus NX crossover or a hybrid system that uses a capacitor.
