1999 Toyota Land Cruiser Base Sport Utility 4-door 4.7l on 2040-cars
Glenwood Springs, Colorado, United States
Selling our 99 land cruiser as we are moving to Europe. Fully loaded.
Always garaged, driven by my wife as her daily driver with a 20 mile daily commute. Purchased from the owner of a BMW shop about a year ago, and now we are moving out of the states. Land Cruisers are a superior and plush SUV with all the bells and whistles! They are known for their reliable strength and longevity. This has 169k miles and has a TON of life left. No kids, no pets, no smoking. The exterior black color is a really sharp look, however there are body scratches and a few door dings/dents. I'd give the body a 7/10. Interior tan leather in really nice shape! There is a tear on the back side of the middle row of seats. Otherwise it is soft, supple, and very attractive. Seating for 7 with flip up/removable 3rd row seat. FULLY LOADED, DVD, navigation, back up camera, blue tooth, power everything, heated seats, power seats. Cold AC, Hot Heat. Check engine light came on recently as it needs an O2 sensor which is a $54 part. The service will most likely be a couple hundred unless you are mechanically inclined and do it on your own! All time AWD gets you everywhere you need to go, while being very safe, secure and stylish. We will own a land cruiser for the rest of our lives due to our experience with them so far! The low range doesn't engage, however we've not needed it, additionally the rear locking differential doesn't engage since you can't put it into low. Center Locking Differential works great. We've had one of the snowiest (and best!!) winters in Colorado in several years and this was a great vehicle to have my wife in. We make it everywhere we need to go and don't get stuck! I know the front wheel bearings will need to be packed in the near future. This is a $400 job at the highest (quoted at a local Big O Tires). Tires are almost new, as well as the brakes and rotors. Drives very solid, strong and smooth. Super reliable and a great machine! Would not hesitate to drive cross country. Thanks for viewing. |

Japan considering offering free hydrogen cars because $30k incentives apparently not enough
Wed, Aug 6 2014There's no such thing as a free lunch. A free hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, though? It may become a possibility in Japan, says Automotive News. We know the Japanese government is being plenty supportive of hydrogen vehicles since it will provide about $20,000 worth of incentives to prospective customers of the $69,000 vehicle. And with local governments like Toyota City's Aichi prefecture supplying another $10,000, out of pocket costs could reach less than $40,000 for the Toyota hydrogen car. We don't know for sure that the 'free' H2 car will happen, but with Toyota starting sales of its first production FCV next spring (potentially named Mirai), it could happen. That would also spell good news for Honda, which will follow up Toyota's effort for its own hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. The case for the free car is still pretty tenuous. Automotive News, citing the Nihon Keizai business publication, reports that the Japanese government has thrown around the idea of subsidizing the vehicles outright to early adopters just to gain some momentum for this kind of zero-emissions vehicles. Heck, the government would even throw in free fuel for good measure. We'll see about that. To see some of the official hydrogen excitement, click here for a video of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe taking a Toyota fuel cell vehicle for a brisk test drive. Toyota issues stop sale on 6 key models over seat fabrics; recall possible? [UPDATE]
Thu, 30 Jan 2014Toyota has issued a stop-sale order on six of its core models due to concerns about the flammability of certain seat fabrics. The issue rests not with the cloth and leather covers themselves, but with a piece of seat heater beneath them that fails to meet US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for flame retardancy.
There have been no reports of fires or injuries from the affected cars, which include some of Toyota's biggest volume sellers. 2013 and 2014 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Sienna models equipped with heated seats are included in the stop-sale, as are 2014 Tundra pickups and Corolla sedans. The exact number of vehicles with the non-compliant materials are still being tabulated, according to The Detroit Free Press.
According to a Toyota spokesman, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been notified, although it remains to be seen if a recall will be issued. Outside of a full recall, though, it's unclear how Toyota will deal with vehicles equipped with the flammable materials that have already found homes.
Toyota vows to fix poor Camry crash test result that irked Consumer Reports
Tue, 10 Dec 2013Many Toyota vehicles haven't been performing well in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) small overlap frontal crash test, and the Camry is one of them. The 2012 and 2013 Camry both received "Poor" ratings, IIHS' lowest rating, in the test, which spurred Consumer Reports to take the car off its "Recommended" list. In response to the low ratings in the small overlap frontal test, and in a bid to maintain its best-seller status, Toyota will make changes to the Camry to improve its IIHS safety rating and to enhance its design, The Detroit News reports.
The Camry performed well in the moderate overlap frontal, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats crash tests, receiving "Good" ratings, IIHS' highest rating, in all four tests. That was enough for IIHS to award it a Top Safety Pick rating, just not TSP+.
Bill Fay, head of Toyota's US division, reportedly says, "It's still a five-star car. It still does very well in all the IIHS tests. It did not in [the small overlap frontal crash test], and we're busy making the necessary adjustments so that we can address that."
