1997 Toyota Land Cruiser

1997 Toyota Land Cruiser Base Sport Utility 4-Door 4.5L with Front and Rear Locking Diff

Vehicle Specifics for 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD AC Leather Moonroof 3rd Row

Really nice, well maintained and conditioned 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser now up for sale. This is by far the best car I have ever owned bar none. I am only the second owner and we purchased it with 28k miles on it. Our family has enjoyed this truck immensely. I would be happy to drive it for another 100k miles but my wife felt like we needed a change. We have had it garaged for the entire time we have owned it which is 13 years. These Land Cruisers are so much fun to drive, very popular and extremely reliable. Great care has been taken of the vehicle. This Land Cruiser has 255k miles, which is still very reasonable mileage for this vintage, as they can easily reach 400k miles. Most of the miles on the truck are highway miles.

Interior Condition - The interior is very clean and in relatively good shape. With the exception of some good size tears in the drivers seat leather and wear in the steering wheel cover all other leather is in good shape. The carpets are very clean as are the wood grain trim and floor mats. It has never been smoked-in and smells pretty good. The power locks, windows, seats and roof all work well. Passenger power seat not moving backward - motors move, looks to be issue with a slight bend in the bar under seat. Air conditioning and heat work great. Includes removable 3rd row seating.

Exterior Condition- Because it has been garaged for most of its life, the exterior paint still has a really nice looking shine to it. The exterior is in very good condition, no rust with only a few chips/scratches around the tire flares, front hood and right side door as would be expected for a 1997 vehicle. The right front hood and bumper have been pushed in as my mother in law had recently backed into the truck while it was sitting in the driveway. The damage is relatively minor but still needs to be addressed.  Preliminary estimates have been anywhere between $250 and
$500 depending on the level of repair you want. Towing Package - hitch with 5000lb capacity New antenna is included, already purchased only just needs to be installed. It is full time four wheel drive, but also has the 4 way differential locks that allows it to go almost anywhere. Truck is exceptional in the snow and ice.

Engine – Mechanically the car works perfect. Just had it tuned up. The engine compartment is relatively clean, and free of any leaks. The engine and transmission have always performed very well and there are no strange noises or vibrations.  All maintenance has been conducted very regularly. Engine runs strong, good power, excellent idle and freeway operation. It does use a decent amount of oil, I’m told because of its age. Also check engine light sometimes stays on. Have had this checked recently and was told the EGR valve needs to be cleaned.

Tires - The tires are a relatively new matched set of Michelin LTXs. Only tires we have ever used and they ride, look and handle nicely. They are nice sport tires that have over 75% tread life left.  Have all been recently been rotated and balanced. The tires have alloy rims that are in relatively good shape.

This is a great truck. We have loved it for as long as we’ve had it. We even recently looked at a new one but they have now gotten so expensive.  I want to be sure your happy with all details as expectations can vary.  If something is not clear in the description please feel free to ask me any questions before bidding.

Additional Terms: I have done the best to detail issues/items on this truck, but please email me if you have any questions or need more information. Feel free to email me for more details

Expedition drives from Russia to Canada over North Pole...

Tue, 21 May 2013

No, a Ford Expedition did not drive from Russia to Canada via the North Pole, but that's exactly what a team of intrepid explorers accomplished recently. Using specially-modified buses with massive tires, the group slowly drove 2,485 miles in 70 days over drifting ice, occasionally using a pickaxe to clear a path and staying on guard for chasms that could open up and plunge the team into the frigid arctic waters. Average speeds were about 6 mph, "at the speed of a (farm) tractor." While the big tires technically allowed the buses to float if the need arose, the team preferred to stay out of the water to keep the suspension from getting coated in thick, hard ice. Falling in on foot would mean almost certain death.
According to Phys.org, the buses were powered by Toyota diesel engines, but were built with prototype parts from a previous driving expedition to the North Pole. Right now, the machines are parked in a garage in Canada's Resolute Bay while the the team rests up with family back home. They plan to continue their trek to back across the Bering Straight to Russia. If successful, the team may eventually offer a version of their buses for commercial sale.

2015 Toyota Camry

Mon, 22 Sep 2014

Every car has its definitive year. Whether it be the Chevrolet Corvette, the Ford Mustang, or yes, even the ubiquitous Toyota Camry, 10.2 million of which have been sold since 1983, every car has its year. For the Camry, that year was 1992. With son-of-Lexus styling, a clear sense of purpose and a parent company that had hit its stride as the purveyor of faultlessly reliable family transportation devices, the Camry got its legs in 1992. It's a car that even your mom is likely to remember, even if she never owned one herself.
The Camry you see here represents the closest Toyota has come to emulating the magic formula that made the 1992 model the stuff of legends. Compared to the 2014 model, some 2000 of the car's 6,000 parts are new, most of them involving things you can see or touch (on the outside, for example, only the roof carries over from 2014).
It's not a full redesign, but nevertheless it's a stunning development considering the predecessor upon which it's based only survived two model years. That's a testament to both the hyper-competitive nature of the family sedan segment and the lukewarm critical response that the outgoing car garnered. But that's in the past now - after driving this 2015 model, we suspect the new car's changes will be thorough enough to continue pulling in new customers by the hundreds of thousands each year for the foreseeable future.

Toyota recalls 690,000 Tacoma trucks for rusty leaf springs, fire risk

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

Toyota has announced that it will be issuing a recall of 690,000 Tacoma pickups from model years 2005 through 2011. The affected vehicles include both the four-wheel-drive model and the two-wheel-drive PreRunner (but not the standard 4x2 pickups), which may have a rather serious problem with their rear suspensions.
In some cases, corrosion and stress could cause one of the three or four leaves in the rear suspension's leaf springs to fracture. While the trucks can still be driven with a broken leaf, Toyota is concerned that it could move out of position and impact other components in the rear of the truck, with a particular focus on the fuel tank. Needless to say, but a piece of metal continuously impacting anything, let alone the fuel tank, is cause for concern.
As of this writing, there have been no reports of crashes, injuries, fires or deaths due to this problem, although that won't stop Toyota from informing all affected customers of the issue. Those 690,000 owners will need to report in to dealers for inspections and, if necessary, repairs.
