Selling my 1997 Toyota Landcruiser: Don't have room to keep this anymore, really have enjoyed driving it (mostly highway mileage for last 25k miles) and a few couple trips to the Texas Gulf Coast:
The Good:
- Front/Rear Locker - rare option and works great (interior controlled)
- Rebuilt Head with approx 25k miles since replacement (approx $1100 in parts)
- New Front/Rear rotors replaced within 15k miles, recently replaced brake pads
- Engine runs very strong, excellent idle and freeway operation
- All new EGR components - valve, soleniod (relocated to avoid damage from intake heat), temp sensor, modulator
- Cruise Control works great
- Car tracks straight, no drivability issues at freeway speed & below
- Transmission shifts great, no problems
- Airconditioning blows cold & heater works great
- Towing Package - hitch with 5000lb capacity
- Tires have good amount of tread on all 4 tires, low miles since purchase from Discount Tire (certificates included)
The Bad
- Has oil leak from valve cover, I purchased complete gasket kit to fix & will include it in auction sale
- Right rear quarter panel has large dent where a car backed into it
- Font bumper is dented in after another car backed into it (previously replaced due to light front accident)
- A/C Clutch making noise, still working but should probably be replaced
- Two small surface rust spots (under driver side mirror & pasenger side windshield pillar)
- Interior is decent for its age - but shows signs of the expected wear
- Rim lip damage on passenger rear rim - full size spare rim could be used to swap out if desired
- Top coolant return nipple repaired with patch, works fine and no leaks (just disclosing)
- One cracked sensor housing repaired with patch, works fine (nothing wrong with manifold just plastic cracked)

Toyota restructuring US operations, possibly moving to Texas
Sun, 27 Apr 2014According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, Toyota is poised to announce Monday that it is restructuring its US operations, which may include plans to relocate some of its operations to Texas. Toyota Motor Sales has been located in California since 1957, and is responsible for North American sales, marketing, and distribution for Toyota, Lexus and Scion. According to Toyota literature, its Torrance operations presently employs 6,156 workers and represents a $2.3-billion investment.
Workers in Toyota's Torrance offices were abuzz about the possible relocation to Texas. One young offspring of a Toyota employee even posted to Twitter that her parents warned about the upcoming move, and she said she's refusing to go.
Rumors at one point had Toyota settling in Richardson, TX, just outside Plano. But Autoblog talked to Richardson Mayor Laura Maczka, who said she would be thrilled if that were true, but has not heard anything on the subject. Autoblog also emailed with Bill Sutherland, a city councilman in Torrance, CA, who said, "To date the only info I have is what I have read in the paper expecting a press release Monday."
Toyota will steer clear of driverless cars
Thu, 04 Sep 2014Toyota executives say the company's primary focus is on safety. At least for the time being, that means the company won't pursue development of a driverless car.
Speaking at the company's advanced safety seminar in Ypsilanti, MI, Thursday morning, Seigo Kuzumaki, Toyota's deputy chief safety technology officer, said that Toyota envisions a future driving environment that optimizes the best of both humans and computers, not choosing one over the other.
"Toyota's main objective is safety, so it will not be developing a driverless car." - Seigo Kuzumaki
Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales
Wed, 21 Nov 2012The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.
