1997 Toyota Land Cruiser Base Sport Utility 4-door 4.5l on 2040-cars

This is my husband's 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser. He passed away last fall, and this was his baby. My kids and I have enjoyed it this summer, but we are planning to move to Michigan in a couple of months and I have decided that it is something I won't take with us.
We bought this for about $8k in 2010. Over about 3 years we modified it and turned it into something pretty awesome. I would estimate we put about $45,000 into it in mods. We also put bedliner on the exterior so that you can go crazy in brush and with rugged terrain with rocks and it won't get dents and scratches. It has an ARB front bumper and a custom rear bumper with a ladder and spare on the back and an ARB roof rack. This vehicle is just hardcore with serious off-roading gear on it, including a winch that is operated by a hand control (i.e., not manual.) There is also an ARB camping overhang that is attached to the roof rack. It makes camping trips really nice, provides shade and cover when there is rain. It has a functional snorkel and a brand new battery. The tires are very heavy-duty, and are 2 years old. They are about the best you can get for off-roading and durability with very large treads. Some of the interior has been taken out because he was working on redoing it all, but I have all of the parts to it and can include them in the sale. None of what he took out interferes with driving in it and riding in it. The radio/cd player is new, with an iPod port. The radio also is connected to a camera in the rear of the vehicle so that you have clear footage of the rear when driving in reverse. There is so much more, but this ad is getting long. Really, you need to come take a look if you are interested. Only serious customers though, please. It is not easy for me to let go of this because it was so special to our family. So I don't want to show it unless the buyer is serious about it. I also have some gear he used for working on it that is in our storage unit, and could show that, too, and consider including it in the sale of the vehicle with an adjusted package price, considering what you would want from that stuff. (Things such as a lift/jack, heavy-duty towing ropes, tire chains, a air pump for adjusting pressure on different terrain that runs off the car battery, etc.) |

2014 Toyota Highlander to start at $30,075*
Tue, 17 Dec 2013We now have pricing for Toyota's redesigned 2014 Highlander, which is seeing moderate price hikes across the board. Prices for the popular crossover have been bumped from less than 1 percent to less than 3 percent on lower-end models (anywhere from $125 to $890, depending on trim). Toyota has increased prices on higher-end XLE and Limited models more substantially - between 4.1 and 4.5 percent ($1,480 to $1,700). The Highlander Hybrid sees its price increase 2 percent ($930). The new model will be available in four different trims and with either front or all-wheel drive.
The absolute cheapest member of the Highlander range, the base LE, with a four-cylinder and front-wheel drive starts at $30,075, an increase of just $195. The LE is also available with a V6 and all-wheel drive, with the bigger engine upping the price to $31,380. All-wheel drive models start at $32,840. A slightly pricier LE Plus starts at $33,600 for a V6 FWD model and $35,060 if you add all-wheel drive.
Next up, we have the XLE, which starts at $36,900 for FWD models and moves up to $38,360 for AWD. The top-tier Limited model starts at $40,500 in FWD spec, grips-at-all-fours versions will retail for $41,960. For those that want the very top of the Highlander range, there's the Platinum Pack, which adds the Driver's Tech Pack (adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, lane departure warning and automatic high beams), a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats to the already well-equipped Limited model. Highlander Platinums start at $42,990 and $44,450, depending on how many tires are doing the work. (Note: All prices include an $860 destination and handling charge.)
Toyota settles first wrongful death suit related to unintended acceleration
Mon, 21 Jan 2013Toyota's sales seem to have rebounded from the unintended acceleration issues from 2009 and 2010, but the automaker is far from done dealing with this situation. Following a settlement worth up to $1.4 billion for economic loss to affected vehicle owners, Toyota has settled rather than going to trial in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from an accident in Utah in 2010 that left two passengers dead. This isn't the first case in which Toyota has settled, but it was the first among a consolidated group of cases being held in Santa Ana, CA.
According to The Detroit News, this case was scheduled to take place next month, and it was for a November 2010 incident in which Paul Van Alfen and Charlene James Lloyd were killed in a Camry when, based on findings by the Utah Highway Patrol, the accelerator got stuck causing the car to speed out of control and hit a wall; the terms of the settlement were not announced.
The article says that while Toyota will settle on some cases, it doesn't plan on settling on all of them as it still wants to be able to "defend [its] product at trial." This will probably be the case in suits claiming that software for the drive-by-wire accelerator was the cause of an accident in a Toyota or Lexus vehicle. The question of whether or not the electronic accelerator played any role in this problem has been a hot-button topic since the beginning. Toyota has issued recalls in the past to attempt to prevent unintended acceleration caused by trapped floor mats and faulty accelerator pedals, but it also says driver error was to blame in some instances.
Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey, list dominated by Japanese [w/video]
Mon, 29 Oct 2012It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate.
Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus - in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight.
Audi climbed a total of 18 spots from last year, and Cadillac and GMC round out this year's top gainers breaking into the top 15. Helping Cadillac's upward movement, the CTS Coupe was named the most reliable domestic car. Lincoln, Volvo and Chrysler join Ford on this year's biggest loser list.
