Up for auction is a very well built 1997 FZJ80. 81,000 miles on vehicle (98,000 on engine) There is so much to list about this vehicle but I will try my best.
Upgrades Include: - GM Vortec 6.0L V8 (98,000 miles) - GM Automatic Transmission (rebuilt 07/14) - Original transfer case which retains the full time 4WD - Advance Adapters transmission to transfer case adapter - Howell Engine Performance Computer & Wiring Harness - Spahl Electric fans - Factory Electric Locking Differentials (front and rear) - Slee 4" Lift - ARB Bullbar - Warn 9.5xp winch - Slee Rear Bumper - Slee Sliders - Viair 450c onboard air compressor - 4.88 gears - 35" BFG Mud Terrains - Hi-Lift Jack - Custom Louvered Hood (very cool and one of a kind) - 4 wheel high performance vented rotors and ceramic brake pads - Optima Red Top battery - Cold AC - Etc History: This 80 series was built to run the high mountain passes in Colorado and to run the mild to medium desert trails around Moab. This truck was professionally built by Proffitt's Cruisers out of Austin, Colorado in 2007 and 2008. Proffitt's Cruisers was an exclusive Toyota Land Cruiser restoration and modification shop that did top notch work. All upgrades except for the engine conversion were done in 2007 at 58K original miles. In 2008, more power was desired so the engine conversion was done at 65K original miles. A low mileage 6.0L Vortec was installed (not as low miles as the original six but with only 17K miles more than original engine). Condition: The truck looks like it has 81K miles on it. This is not a 200K+ mile truck that has a trashed interior and beat up exterior and then converted to a V8. The front driver's seat is not torn and shows very little wear; indicative of a low mileage vehicle. Aside from a few dirty spots, the interior is in really great shape. The exterior shows a couple of small dings here and there. The worst being in the driver's side door which occurred in the Summer of 2013 with the Hi-Lift jack trying to get out of a snow bank. The exterior also shows a bit of "trail pin striping" here and there. The pin striping might be buffed out with some effort. It's never bothered me so I didn't worry about it. Also, there is no rust on this truck. Drivability: To be quite honest, this truck gets up and goes and this is the way Toyota should have made these incredible vehicles. The in-line 6 is a great motor, but the V8 is awesome! It has plenty of power to get you into and out of traffic and it has low end torque for running trails. The vehicle runs great, shifts smooth, and is a nice all-around driver. 15K miles have been put on this truck since the conversion. Over $40K has been invested into this Cruiser. It's a great car but I don't use it. It has done most of the Colorado high mountain passes and mild to medium trails around Moab with ease. It has never been "wheeled" and it is well taken care of. It does not leak a drop of anything anywhere. The front axles seals are clean and don't leak. This car brings a lot of attention due to its condition. It draws even more attention when people hear the low rumble of a throaty V8 under the hood. If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind, well built, ready to roll 80 series, then this one may be for you. If you are looking for an all original grocery getter soccer mom car, then this is not the right one for you; keep looking. The Little Stuff: Here are a couple of things that a potential buyer needs to be aware of: 1) There are no emissions on this vehicle. Here on the Western Slope of Colorado, we don't require them so it didn't need it. If you live in an area where you have emissions testing, then you may have to modify the vehicle for your needs. I have no idea what this entails and I highly suggest you contact someone BEFORE you bid and/or commit to buying the vehicle. 2) There is no cruise control. The original system might be able to be hooked back up or an aftermarket system installed. I have never needed it so it doesn't bother me. 3) The airbag light is on the dash. I always assumed this was due to the engine modification. I have no idea if the air bags are still operational or not.... I've never hit anything to test them out. I have tried to explain this vehicle to the best of my knowledge. I highly recommend that you ask questions as surely, I have forgotten something. You can reach me at 970-379-8568. If I don't answer, please leave a message and I will call you back at my earliest convenience. I have listed this vehicle with a buy-it-now price of $25K which is a fraction of what was put into it. Trust me; you will not be able to professionally build this type of vehicle for anywhere close to that price. The reserve is a little lower than the buy-it-now. If it doesn't sell the first time around, I will keep re-listing until it does. It is located in Carbondale, CO 81623. Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer. I have worked with an auto shipping broker and she is great to work with. I will pass her information on to any interested buyer. Again, please ask questions and Thanks for looking. |

Autoblog Podcast #318:
Japan may aid carmakers facing U.S. tariff threat
Wed, Sep 12 2018TOKYO — Japan is considering giving carmakers fiscal support including tax breaks to offset the impact from trade frictions with the United States and a sales-tax hike planned for next year, government sources told Reuters on Wednesday. Going into a second round of trade talks with the United States on Sept. 21, Japan is hoping to avert steep tariffs on its car exports and fend off U.S. demands for a bilateral free trade agreement that could put it under pressure to open politically sensitive markets, like agriculture. "If the trade talks pile pressure on Japan's car exports, we would need to consider measures to support the auto industry," a ruling party official said on condition of anonymity because of sensitivity of the matter. The auto industry accounts for about 20 percent of Japan's overall output and around 60-70 percent of the country's trade surplus with the United States, making it vulnerable to U.S. action against Japanese exports. Japan's biggest automakers and components suppliers fear they could take a significant hit if Washington follows through on proposals to hike tariffs on autos and auto parts to 25 percent. Policymakers also worry that an increase in the sales tax from 8 percent to 10 percent planned for October 2019, could cause a slump in sales of big-ticket items such as cars and home. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has twice postponed the tax hike after the last increase from 5 percent in 2014 dealt a blow to private consumption, which accounts for about 60 percent of the economy. To prevent a pullback in demand after the tax hike, the government may consider large fiscal spending later when it draws up its budget for next year, government sources said. "One option may be to greatly reduce or abolish the automobile purchase tax," one of the government sources said. The government is also considering cuts in the automobile tax and automobile weight tax to help car buyers, the source added. Here's the 2017 Toyota 86: Don't call it a Scion
Fri, Feb 5 2016After we heard the bells toll for Scion yesterday, we told you that the Scion FR-S will transform into a Toyota. That's right: just a rebadging. The practical question is, which badge? The philosophical question, which we can't answer yet, is where it'll sit in the pantheon of front-engined, rear-drive Toyota sports cars, of which the Supra was the last one to visit our shores, from 1992 until 1998 in its fourth generation. And as if summoned by this conversation, this camouflaged prototype appeared. Our best guess is that this is going to be the US-bound, Toyota-badged version of the Subaru BRZ and all the other 86-badged variants: the Toyota 86 (in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and South Africa), Toyota GT86 (in Europe and New Zealand again), and Toyota FT86 (in Nicaragua and Jamaica). For simplicity's sake, let's call it a Toyota 86. Peer into the 86's swirly camo, and it looks like the car is going in for a light refresh. The lower intake in the front fascia, if it's representative of a production part, adopts a different shape and is considerably wider and narrower than either the BRZ or FR-S units. It also appears that the turn signal and its surround are reshaped, different than any of the current variants. Changes out back appear mild. The area around the license plate seems to be smoother, and there is likely a predictable light restyle of the bumper skin and defuser under the camo. We don't expect a significant power increase, and certainly not a turbocharger (sorry!), but crossing fingers wouldn't do any harm. Related Video:
