Up for auction is my 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser. Very clean. Gorgeous paint and interior. Kind of a light bronze paint with two tone tan/brown interior. Both front and back seats are in very good shape as well as the carpet. Newish tires. 114,000 miles. Power windows and locks. Tinted windows. Tilt wheel. Aftermarket cruise control. If you've been looking for one of these for a while you know how hard it is to find one that has really been garaged and taken care of. Just a beast of a 4 wheel drive. No weird smells in the interior. A folder of receipts comes with this. Runs like a top. Everything works all the way down to the digital clock, power side mirrors, and power antenna. Comes with original tool kit. All gauges work correctly. Runs straight down the road without any pulling to either side. Master cylinder just reworked and brakes have been inspected and work perfect. Toyota's Psy-style Waku-Doki ad inherits Japan's bizarre ad crown
Tue, 29 Jul 2014A new Japanese Toyota ad featuring crisply suited businessmen driving into the jungle only to segue into a Psy-style music-video dance-off with a gorilla and natives is the latest car commercial to go viral. Jungle Wakudoki is the newest installment in a grand tradition of bizarre ads from the island nation that are by turns hilarious, head-scratching and occasionally even frightening.
Let's face it: My people are weird.
I'm half-Japanese and take suitable pride in my Asian roots, but even I can't figure out what's been slipped into the water coolers of the country's ad agencies much of the time - or the nation at large, for that matter. From Japan's ubiquitous obsession with all things adorable (kawaii) to its offbeat sense of humor and its bizarrely perverse and violent tentacle porn, it's clear there's a lot going on in the culture, and only some of it bubbles up to the surface in its marketing efforts. Much of the strangest and most amazing ads are for non-transportation products (e.g. laundry soap, snacks, energy drinks), but the automotive space has its fair share. This latest Toyota ad had me trawling YouTube for a common theme, trying to make sense of why these spots are the way they are. Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards
Fri, 22 Feb 2013The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
