1987 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER FJ60 - 2nd Owner
Up for auction is my 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60. It has a very strong 6cyl engine which runs like a top, manual transmission and a 4wd that will literally climb a mountain. Always garaged, meticulously maintained, looks and runs GREAT!!! This was my childhood dream car, so in 2006 I spent many months researching before I bought this FJ60 from the original owner. He was a librarian who never off-roaded it. There are 18 years of records of him bringing it to the dealership for all maintenance. No car or other possession has given me the sense of joy that driving my Landcruiser brings. The "awesome car!" comments and offers to buy from passerbys happen all the time. -Original paint and pin-striping. -The tires have 80% tread. -New starter. -I always changed oil every 3k miles. Lots of preventative maintenance. -It recently passed Los Angeles, California smog (one of toughest in nation). Thanks to Rich at K&H and the new carb he installed. -For all the big stuff, I took it to K&H. Like replacing the Clutch wire. -Awesome Radio that connects to ipod/iphone/android, also plays USB port and SD card slot. -Clean. I just had it detailed, and the original paint looks amazing. When I first bought this car, there was a small area of rust in the rear wheel wells and one spot near the top where a roof rack would clamp. So I took my time and grinded out all the rust, sanded it down, then meticulously applied Rust Bullet with a fine paintbrush. It is 8 years later, and the rust is still dead. I was still in my 20's then, so I had a fresh back to do all that work. She will start up everytime. When very cold outside, it takes 3 turns of the key. This Landcruiser also comes with the rare/no-longer-for-sale George's LED dome lights. They are installed in both domes and give off a much brighter white light, and with such little battery drain. I've accidentally left them on overnight, and the car battery was fine. I like to take her 68mph on the highway no problem. I have hit 75 once just to see top speed. My wife and I are having another baby and we need a third row of seats. Though I will miss her greatly, my amazing Landcruiser gets a new owner. |

Lexus gets new boss, and he's a designer
Wed, 26 Feb 2014A reshuffle in the uppermost ranks of Lexus could see the Japanese luxury brand further energize its recent focus on design. Tokuo Fukuichi, Toyota's global design boss, is the new head of Lexus International.
Fukuichi will retain his role as the overall head of design for Toyota, Lexus and Scion, and will assume his new position at the head of Lexus and on its board on April 1 (no fooling). This is going to be an interesting move for fans of design to watch, as Fukuichi has repeatedly been mentioned as a designer that enjoys pushing the edge of the envelope and experimenting. He is, after all, the man responsible for designing the most awesomely odd minivan of the 1990s, the mid-engined, rear-drive Toyota Previa, and more recently, he signed off on the controversial Lexus LF-NX concept, which is said to presage a new production small crossover.
"Regarding changes in design, no one has 100 percent confidence," Fukuichi told Forbes back in January 2013. "No one can really say with pure certainty that, 'In two years, this will sell well.'" As Akio Toyoda continues to demand more assertive, edgier designs, it's that point of view that should make Fukuichi a valuable addition to Lexus, as it continues to challenge the competition from Germany.
Toyota's Lentz says fuel cells are the future, not EVs
Sun, 25 May 2014Toyota is not bullish on EVs. That comes from the company's North American CEO, Jim Lentz, who said the company will focus not on electrification, but on continued hybridization with a long-term focus on hydrogen fuel cells.
Lentz questioned the long-range ability of EVs, saying that Toyota feels "there are better alternatives, such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and tomorrow with fuel cells." Lentz spoke about Toyota's focus on hydrogen following Forbes Brainstorm Green conference and barely a week after a battery deal between Tesla and Toyota ended, according to Automotive News.
That deal provided for 2,500 battery packs for the Rav4 EV. While valuable to Toyota, the deal "was never about open-ended volume," Lentz said. "It was time to either continue or stop. My personal feeling was that I would rather invest my dollars in fuel cell development than in another 2,500 EVs."
Toyota to sell hot-pink Crown in Japan
Sun, 11 Aug 2013Akio Toyoda is doing a pretty decent job at the helm of the Toyota empire. This is the man, after all, that declared that Toyota would get new sports cars, and that they needed to be, not should be, rear-wheel drive. We can respect that. Toyoda is also trying to do away with his company's conservative styling and bring edgier vehicles to market.
Toyota's designers have done just that, although perhaps they went a bit too far. In November, Toyota debuted its fourteenth-generation Crown with a bling-bling fascia that makes Lexus' spindle grille look as conservative as a three-piece suit, and a retina-searing pink paintjob. See, in Japan, the Crown is to Japan's older crowd what the 2002 Buick Park Avenue is to America's senior citizens. As Automotive News reports, the idea with the pink was to draw attention to the grille, but it was originally intended as a debut item, only.
Now, Toyota is actually planning to offer the electric fuchsia Crown for sale to regular buyers. Interested parties will have from September 1st to September 30th to place an order for the big sedan. According to the AN report, Toyoda said to reporters at the debut, "My initial reaction was: 'You're kidding! Please, not pink." We wish they were kidding.
