1987 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj60 4wd 196k Miles on 2040-cars
Seattle, Washington, United States
Up for sale is this 1987 FJ60 in great condition. Runs and drives great as well.
It has a rear seat back (matches original interior) from a FJ62 to get the more desirable headrests, also FJ62-style side view mirrors, which are aftermarket. A new OEM grille, 32" BFG All-Terrain T/As all round, with approx. 18K on them. Also Man-A-Fre add a leaf springs all around. Sits higher than stock, but no lift kit. The good news: As stated, it's a great looking rig, very straight body overall. Paint shines quite nicely for its age. Interior also in very good condition. Super reliable daily driver. Everything works, A/C (converted to R134a), intermittent wipers, rear heater, rear wiper, gauges, all work as they should. This truck gets tons of compliments all the time and thumbs up from the Land Cruiser faithful. I've had it for 3 years and only had some front end work done, tie rods, knuckles etc. by TorFab in Mukilteo, WA. It's a reliable daily driver with a lot more off road capability than it ever sees. The bad news: has some body rust around pass rear wheel arch, see pics. It's not showing through the paint and there are not holes or anything but it was "repaired" before I got it and now you can see it coming back. The other side is much better, minimal rust on dr. side rear wheel arch and overall the truck is rock-solid body panel-wise. I've tried to photograph the bottoms of the doors where there is any sign of rust. The front dome light sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. The center console has a cracked section ahead of the storage lid. There is a dent shown in the main pic, in front of the driver's wheel arch. Also, the driver's seat is torn and has some cheesy brown duct tape on the left side to keep it together... I have a ton more photos I can send to anyone interested. |

Dutch Toyota dealer has plans for old Prius batteries as solar backup
Thu, May 1 2014A Toyota dealer in the Netherlands is looking to the sky for power. The Louwman Hague Toyota dealership has put almost 1,000 solar panels on the roof, and there might be some Prius hybrid batteries involved. Our Dutch isn't as good as it could be and our questions to Toyota in the US haven't turned up any definitive answers, but there is some mention that these solar panels are will someday be feeding power into a bank of Toyota hybrid batteries. The 1,000 panels make up 1,600 square meters, about the size of 4.5 IMAX movie screens, and is the largest in the area. They generate around a quarter of a megawatt of energy [as our readers point out, this is what the translation says, but it doesn't make sense, so we think it might mean a quarter MW of power a day], which is enough to power 80 homes. The excess electricity will go into the battery packs that have (possibly) already been used in a Prius or another of the company's hybrid. There are many examples of automotive batteries being tested as stationary back-up power sources, and maybe this Dutch solution can be used as a guide when Toyota sets up its new US headquarters in sunny Texas.
Toyota, Lexus to build more CUVs to meet surging demand
Sun, Jan 18 2015What was the biggest takeaway from the auto industry's 2014? Besides the fact that recalls are now a sad and mostly unremarkable part of a vehicle's life, it's that you can't be a competitive, mainstream brand in the US without a really strong line of crossovers, SUVs or pickups. We saw evidence of this as recently as Monday, when Hyundai unveiled its HCD-15 Santa Cruz Concept, and now we're seeing it again with Toyota. The company already has a comprehensive lineup of both mainstream and luxury CUVs and SUVs, although surging demand – sales were up 16 percent last year, Bloomberg reports – has led the company to increase its production tempo at the plants responsible for the RAV4 and Lexus RX. "The freeze is still in place until the end of March of 2016," Toyota's Jim Lentz told Bloomberg during this week's Detroit Auto Show, referencing the production bump at the Japanese and Canadian factories responsible for the models. "That hasn't changed. All indications are that it will lift, but right now it has not lifted." The increased sales are even spurring the brand to consider additional CUVs, including a compact that would slot in below the RAV4, Lentz told the business publication. Such a move would give Toyota a player in an increasingly competitive and important segment. In 2014 alone, mainstream brands, including Honda, Mazda, Chevrolet and Jeep, have announced brand new products destined for the compact CUV market. "We're going to have to look at how the market under RAV4 develops," Lentz told Bloomberg. "There's no question that it's going to. That's going to be the next growth spurt." Related Video:
Minivan market not what it used to be, but margins make up for it
Thu, 05 Jun 2014
Residual values for last year's minivans are higher than they were in 2000.
Much like the station wagon was the shuttle of Baby Boomer generation, the minivan has been the primary means of transport for Generations X and Y. Just as the boomers abandoned the Country Squire, though, those kids that were toted around in Grand Caravans and Windstars are adults, and they certainly don't want to be seen in the cars their parents drove.
