1987 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ74 Diesel 4x4 - Removable Top - Factory PTO winch A/C

This is a
Rare Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) Land Cruiser. The 70 series Land Cruiser was designed as a replacement for the legendary 40 series Land Cruiser. The 70 series trucks had all the basic rugged components of the 40 series, along with a few  modern touches to make modern driving more comfortable and easier. Like a 5 speed transmission, a quieter and more comfortable interior and A/C.

This truck was imported from Japan and is loaded with rare options. It is Right Hand Drive. It is easy and basic to operate. It has no major issues, and runs great.
This truck is equipped with 3.4 liter Direct injection Turbo Diesel engine, that is known to be a very reliable engine, capable of up to 500,000 Kms., if serviced correctly. The engine / transmission / transfer case are all in good shape, and work correctly without issue. The body and farm are solid and sound without major rust or damage.

The interior is in decent shape with some wear showing but very decent overall. All the major electrical components are working correctly. The tires are Michelin LTX A/T with about 50% tread remaining. The suspension is OK, but the leaf springs are a little tired,
and flat, especially on the front from the engine weight, making the ride rougher than it could be. These trucks often get a leaf spring upgrade at about this point. Old Man Emu makes a kit (Dakar) for this truck that is an excellent upgrade, but the truck is fine to be driven as-is. Other than that the truck shown some typical wear, but nothing really bad, and is in decent shape overall. The truck has a factory PTO winch which works correctly. Power can be sent from the motor to the winch using the gears and clutch. You can send power to the wheels too if you desire, or put the transfer case in neutral if you just want to use the winch alone.

This unit is equipped with a nice Roof Tent, that folds out in a few minutes and makes camping a breeze. It keeps you up off the ground away from animals and dirt, and has a 2" mattress built into the floor for comfortable sleeping. It has zip open sides and front/rear with bug screen so you can can get a nice breeze at night in hot weather. It is mounted on a custom made aluminum rack, that can be removed easily if desired.

Toyota issues multiple recalls for 6.4 million vehicles worldwide

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

It looks like 2014 may go down as the year of recalls. We were already at a record pace, and now it seems Toyota is recalling 6.39 million vehicles worldwide, including about 30 of its models for a variety of problems. None of the faults have caused any injuries or fatalities, but there have been two reports of fires caused by a defective engine starter motor.
Toyota's numbers show 1.772 million vehicles being recalled in the US, but that includes some overlap because the Yaris is being repaired for multiple faults. According to The Detroit News, there are 2.36 million affected models in all of north North America, 1.09 million in Japan and 810,000 in Europe, plus smaller numbers in other regions.
Among the vehicles recalled in the US are 1.3 million units of the 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris. The problem is that the driver's airbag module is attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on the cable can be damaged when the steering wheel is turned, which deactivates the airbag and causes the airbag warning light to come on. Toyota is replacing the cable with an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin the repair. The company is sending affected owners notifications in the mail. According to The Detroit News, an unspecified number of Pontiac Vibe vehicles are also included in this recall because it shares the part with the Matrix.

Toyota and Mazda set to expand partnership

Mon, May 11 2015

Toyota and Mazda are already teaming up for the Scion iA and Mazda2, but that partnership might just be the beginning. Reuters reports the two Japanese companies could expand their work together, with Toyota chipping in its experience with both fuel cells and plug-in-hybrid tech, and Mazda contributing its know-how in regards to its Skyactiv line of engines. The report cites a pair of unnamed sources that are "not authorized to discuss the matter publicly." The move, on the surface, is certainly appealing for both parties. Mazda has very little experience with hybrids (remember the Ford-rebadged Tribute Hybrid?), let alone something as advanced as a fuel-cell vehicle. Teaming with Toyota, arguably the world's greatest hybrid manufacturer, would give it a serious leg up. For the Japanese giant, meanwhile, a partnership with Mazda could expand the economy of scale for the Mirai FCV's tech, while Skyactiv engines would do well in replacing the base engines in cars like the Corolla, Camry, and RAV4. What are your thoughts? Would an expanded partnership between Toyota and Mazda make sense? Can you think of any drawbacks? Have your say in Comments. How Charlotte lost to Plano without even knowing it was dealing with Toyota

Thu, 08 May 2014

With Toyota set to relocate its North American headquarters to the Dallas, TX suburb of Plano following a top-secret, 100-city search, the cities that missed out can now begin asking themselves what happened during a process they apparently knew little about.
That's a particularly brutal task for Charlotte, which, according to North Carolina's Secretary of Commerce, Sharon Decker, finished second to Plano. While Toyota has been fairly open about what it was looking for in a new headquarters city - direct flights to Japan, proximity to its US production facilities, a lower cost of living, high-quality educational facilities and finding a neutral site suitable to the California, Kentucky and New York-based employees that would be relocated - it's been less open about how the finalist cities, which also included Atlanta and Denver, stacked up against each other.
The Charlotte Observer has a few ideas. Part of the problem is the distinct lack of direct flights between Charlotte and Asia. US Airways, which operates a hub at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, doesn't fly to Asia.
