This is a 1987 Toyota FJ60 Landcruiser with a Chevy 350 V5 conversion. The body has 109,xxx miles, and very little rust for being a northeast truck it's whole life. Retains the stock Toyota 4 speed manual transmission, and transfer case. The motor is frewsh, and runs EXCELLENT!!! It's was bored .030 over, had rebuilt Vortec heads, 9.0:1 compression, Comp Cams 4x4 cam and lifters(hyd flat tappet) and Edelbrock Performer intake, and 600cfm carb. Brand new 100amp alternater, new water pump, new oil pump, new timing chain, all new gaskets. You can barely tell the truck is running, very smooth and quiet! has almost 60lbs of oil pressure at idle and 160-170 degrees water temp.

The conversion was started BEFORE I bought the truck. The previous owner put the Advanced Adapters V8 converion kit in with a GM 6.2L diesel. I did not want to run the diesel so, I bought the truck with the conversion kit already installed and no motor. The previous owner installed the kit WITHOUT cutting the drive shafts, instead he positioned the motoe rearward in the engine bay. By doing this, the firewall was hammered back. It's sounds bad but, isn't. The truck drive fine. Part of the heater box was removed. It was not able to be reinstalled. The truck has heat but, it is not the factory box. We used a 6" piece of high temp silicone duct hose.

I could see that this was a low mileage original truck when the previous owner bought it. Why he tore it apart is beyond me. It would have been fine just left alone! Oh, well.

The Good:

New front brakes(calipers, pads, and rotors)
New Clutch master cylinder
New Luk low profile clutch(the correct one)
New General Grabber AT2 tires(31x10.5x15)
New exhaust
New 100 amp alternater

The Bad:

Has some rust(see pictures)
Has some electrical issues(factory tach not working, radio not working)

Also, will include a running driving 82' FJ60 for parts with the sale of the 87' truck. Interior is shot!! Body and frame are very rust. Transmission shifts fine.  Engine runs but needs a head gasket. It does have a 2" lift kit, and a real nice set of wheels. Truck has a clear title.

Please feel free to ask any questions before bidding. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!!

Toyota responds to video of Highlander ramming house [w/video]

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

There are, as they say, two sides to every story, so after we posted a video on Monday showing what an owner claimed to be a case of unintended acceleration causing her Toyota Highlander to crash into a house twice, Toyota reached out to us revealing some additional information about the incident.
Following this crash, which took place back in November, Toyota had this Highlander inspected and pulled data from its Event Data Recorder (EDR), or Black Box as we've come to call it. Not only was this the first time we've seen a claim of unintended acceleration like this caught on video, but now, also a first, we have actual data showing what the vehicle itself recorded during this frightening ordeal.
Brian Lyons, Toyota Communications Manager for Safety and Quality, first gave us some information about the Highlander in question, including the fact that it was a 2012 model. The 2012 Highlander came from the factory with a brake override system, meaning it was not part of the company's initiative in 2010 to add the system to all 2011 models. Also, after looking at the data from the EDR, he said - as many of you pointed out in the comments for the previous post - that the "brake pedal was never touched." In the video, you can see that the crossover's brake lights never come on, and the EDR's data backs this up.

Toyota restructuring US operations, possibly moving to Texas

Sun, 27 Apr 2014

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, Toyota is poised to announce Monday that it is restructuring its US operations, which may include plans to relocate some of its operations to Texas. Toyota Motor Sales has been located in California since 1957, and is responsible for North American sales, marketing, and distribution for Toyota, Lexus and Scion. According to Toyota literature, its Torrance operations presently employs 6,156 workers and represents a $2.3-billion investment.
Workers in Toyota's Torrance offices were abuzz about the possible relocation to Texas. One young offspring of a Toyota employee even posted to Twitter that her parents warned about the upcoming move, and she said she's refusing to go.
Rumors at one point had Toyota settling in Richardson, TX, just outside Plano. But Autoblog talked to Richardson Mayor Laura Maczka, who said she would be thrilled if that were true, but has not heard anything on the subject. Autoblog also emailed with Bill Sutherland, a city councilman in Torrance, CA, who said, "To date the only info I have is what I have read in the paper expecting a press release Monday."

This Japanese ad for the Toyota Prius Plug In is beyond confusing

Fri, Jun 20 2014

We'll admit we don't understand all of this strange little ad for the Toyota Prius Plug In (our Japanese skills are not what they once were) but that just makes it all the more fascinating. The takeaway point is that a world full of PHEV Priuses will be astonishingly colorful at time and exciting, with food being delivered by a neck plug. Or something like that. We recommend clicking below and just watching the 60-second spot (and the short making-of video) but if you'd rather read here's what we have figured out: There's some airline-pilot type guy who is visited by who he calls his sister. The voiceover says she's some kind of saleswoman, and she begins to talk up the plug-in Prius alongside the J-Pop group AKB48 Team 8, telling the crowd – including a man in a big, round bird mask – how easy it is to plug in. The old man watching the J-Pop girls tells the woman next to him, "I have their CD." Then we see the original duo back home and the guy says he's hungry before plugging in a blue energy wire. The same wire that then starts charging a Prius. That may not really clarify anything, but there you have it. Watch for yourself below. At the very least, we won't confuse this ad for one from another automaker. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
