Selling my 1982 Toyota Land cruiser FJ40. The truck is very good condition, with oem power steering. I've owned the truck for the past ten years, I believe I am the third owner. I looked for this truck for at least 3 months and found it very close to where I live. The truck is very original and uncut. Everything works including the seat belt buzzer and interior light. Always well maintained, the truck runs and drives excellent and is a daily driver. I recently have been spending more time abroad and the truck has been hardly used since 2008. This is my third vehicle so it didn't see much use anyways. The truck just passed California  smog and is fully registered. I've never had any smog problems since I've owned the truck and its been registered in California continually. Their is minimal rust on the vehicle, mostly the rear seel and the drivers side foot well (see pics) the passenger side is completely clean. The previous owner put some diamond platting on the truck. I took them off, no rust but the holes from the diamond platting are there. The interior is in good to excellent shape, all three dash pads are in new condition, also, all the roll bar pads are in good shape. the truck has been upgraded and serviced most of its life at Mudrak Custom Cruisers in Sonoma. When I first purchased the truck the engine died on me so I had Mudrak install a low mile 2f from an 85 fj60 in the truck. This was over ten years ago and the truck still runs very strong and is very solid. I also had Mudrak do some upgrades and paint the frame. No rust on the frame, extremely clean. Here is a list of upgrades.

Duel fuel tanks with oem doors
Original OME (not Dekkar) suspension system
MAF shackle reversal
16 inch OEM split wheels purchased brand new from Canada in 2009
5 semi new 255/85/16 BFG mud terrains

Kaymar duel pivot rear bumper
with tire carrier and camping light
ARB front bumper
with warn 8274 winch (the winch has been rebuilt with a brand new controller box and rope by Mudrak)
Tuffy center console
Tuffy speaker boxes

Alpine blue tooth/cd receiver
GT seat covers
The interior is in excellent shape, the drivers side seat has a couple of rips and is completely repairable, the passenger side is perfect. It's got a Tuffy console with cup holders and Tuffy speaker boxes with new Pioneer speakers.  Just had new tie rod ends installed, had a rotation and the ride is perfect. The truck is located in the Bay Area and can be seen anytime. Call me at (415)609-1967 or email me any questions or for more pictures.

Experience the New York Auto Show by drone

Fri, Apr 10 2015

The Autoblog team recently returned from wildly running around the Javits Center to cover all the news and debuts at the New York Auto Show. Sometimes, it's nice to take a more serene look at the exhibition floor, though, and the event's organizers are providing that exact opportunity by flying a drone through the hall. Combined with the down-tempo music, this clip feels like a form of automotive meditation. If you're going to miss the show in the Big Apple, the drone also provides a good overview at the exhibition floor, especially at the stands from Lexus, Buick, Dodge, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and BMW. Plus, it's a fun way to see some vehicles from a completely different angle than they ever appear on the road. Toyota struggling in Latin American market, attempting recovery

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

With uncertainty in the US and Chinese markets, automakers are scrambling to rev up their efforts in what were traditionally secondary markets. Take Toyota's efforts in Latin America. A recent story from The Wall Street Journal highlights the Japanese brand's push in the southern hemisphere, particularly in Brazil, where it has expanded its operations and installed new executives with a greater range of powers, all in a bid to grab a bigger slice of the ever-growing South American pie.
South America is dominated by General Motors, Fiat and Volkswagen, which maintain a combined 60 percent of the market share - Toyota holds a mere 4.5 percent. The WSJ spoke with Steve St. Angelo, Toyota's boss in Latin America, who said, "We are playing catch up, but we're catching up fast. We now have the resources to give the region the attention it really needs and deserves."
That attention includes an all-new, locally produced small car called the Etios. As bewildering as it seems, Toyota wasn't competing in the low-cost economy car market in South America. With the Etios, which arrived in September of 2012, its sales in the first seven months of 2013 are up 75 percent.

Scion was Toyota's lost generation

Sat, Feb 6 2016

Toyota's top North American leader was succinct in explaining the reasons for killing Scion. "It's the right decision at the right time," Jim Lentz said. It's hard to disagree. In a strong market that saw 17.5 million sales last year, Scion volume dipped three percent. Its product lineup has withered for years, which is always a telltale sign a brand doesn't have the full support of its owner. Though enthusiasts love the FR-S sports car, it's the fruit of a joint project with Subaru that also produced the BRZ. Scion's coolest car has a twin sold by one of its rivals. After the FR-S launched in 2012, Scion got nothing – squat – in the way of new products until the iA and iM arrived late last year, IHS senior analyst Stephanie Brinley noted. "[Scion] was not successful in building a visual brand identity or product personality," she said. Lentz, Scion's first vice president and now CEO of Toyota's North American division, admitted the market has changed. "Younger customers have a different mindset," he said. In the early oughts, a brand that catered to a youthful demographic made some sense, and this is one front where Toyota can declare victory. Seventy percent of Scion's buyers were new to Toyota, and the average age was 36 years old. The problem is, not enough of them buy Scions anymore. Scion hit a highwater sales mark of 173,034 vehicles in 2006 and hasn't come close to reaching that since. The recession hurt Scion, too. It bottomed out in 2010 with just 45,678 sales, a time when the rest of the industry was beginning to recover. There was a brief uptick (73,507) in 2012, but Scion failed to capitalize on that momentum and sales fell for three more years. Toyota is calling Scion's pending death a "transition" back to the main company. Sure, most of the cars will be rebadged Toyotas, like the FR-S, iA, and iM. The C-HR, an attractive future crossover that would have given Scion a boost, will go into production as a Toyota. But make no mistake: This is a failure. Toyota is closing a brand in the same way General Motors scrapped Oldsmobile, Ford shuttered Mercury, and Chrysler dropped Plymouth. Those brands languished for years. Toyota moved quicker to put the fork in Scion, which prevented it from becoming a long-term drain on the parent company. Lentz was dead on. It's the right time.
