I am selling this extremely low mileage 1979 FJ40 Land Cruiser beauty which is in pristine condition. I first saw this
immaculate truck in 1996 in Runnemede, NJ in response to a classified ad.  I took it for a test drive that afternoon and it
was love a first sight. It had only 28,000 miles on it and looked factory new and drove like a new truck. The owner said
he bought it from the original owner who had it in storage. I went home to get an ok from the boss and phoned the owner
that night only to be informed that he had just sold it. Needless to say, he broke my heart. I continued my search for another
cream puff FJ40 in the Philadelphia & New Jersey region but FJ40's are scarce in this area. I finally responded to a
Philadelphia newspaper classified ad in 1998 for a 1979 that turned out to the one I tried to buy in 1996. It now had
32,500 miles and still in the same immaculate condition as when I first saw it two years earlier. I  bought it on the spot
and since have had many happy years with this awesome truck.

Sadly to say, I must sell my faithful and beautiful FJ40. I have recently retired and in the process of selling our much too
large home and we are going to downsize to a condo. My truck has only about 37,500 miles on it now. I only put about
5,000 miles on it over the past (15) years due to a demanding international traveling schedule. This truck has been spoiled
and always maintained with frequent oil changes and coolant changes even though it had low miles. It has always been
garage kept and has never seen a night outside. After rain, it was always wiped dry. This FJ40 is truly a "Garage Queen".

The exterior and interior paint (031) is in immaculate condition. I was told by the second owner that the paint was original as
was the brown striping which was dealer applied. There are no dents, dings, chips, scratches or rust. The truck has
ambulance doors with a factory swing out spare tire rack. The fiberglass reinforced steel hardtop is removable. All doors
are in mint condition with mechanically perfect operating windows and locks. Steps are in mint condition. All glass is clear
with no chips or cracks. All metal Toyota emblems are intact and in excellent condition. The interior paint (031) is in
excellent condition. There is a factory roll bar along with (2) opposing fold down seats. Head liner is white and in excellent
condition. All seats are vinyl and grey and equipped with seat belts. Door panels are matching grey. Door panels and
seats are in mint condition except for some slight fraying on the driver seat bottom about 2" long.. The dash board is black
and in mint condition with no cracks or fading. Front black Toyota floor mats are in excellent condition. The front heater and
blower along with rear floor heater work great in the cold weather and operate perfectly. Rubber boots for transmission and
t-case floor shifts are in excellent condition. All gauges, speedometer, odometer are in perfect condition with wipers that
always park properly. The cab is perfectly tight with no air or water leaks.

The 2F (4.2 L, in-line 6) is strong and in excellent condition. A new catalytic converter and exhaust piping was installed
this past summer. I have never registered this truck in New Jersey as an antique vehicle, therefore, it was always subject
to New Jersey's strict emission standards during bi-annual inspections. It always met the standards and I have copies of
all the inspection results. The brakes and e-brake are strong and there is no squeaking, squealing or pulling. The engine
compartment is exceptionally clean. The hood and its latches are in excellent condition.

Tires are GoodYear P235-75R-15 (90%+) tread that are mounted on the original steel wheels with original chrome hub
caps. The wheels original grey color was replaced with a dark brown color to match the exterior striping. The swing out
spare tire rack has a never used spare matching tire. The truck has black fender flares and a locking fuel access door.
Also, the original Toyota jack kit and repair tool bag are included.

box is grey and floor mounted between the front bucket seats. All in excellent condition.
2 rear mounted SPARK-O-MATIC speakers.
SHARP CB radio mounted behind driver's seat.

Toyota expands airbag recall to 2.27M vehicles worldwide

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

Was your Toyota inspected under the company's recall campaign for faulty airbag inflators last year? You might have another trip ahead to have it repaired again. The automotive giant says that it found "the involved serial numbers provided by the supplier were incomplete, and did not include all of the potentially involved inflators," according to its official announcement. That means more replacements are needed.
Toyota's April 2013 inflator recall covered the Corolla, Matrix and Tundra from the 2003 and 2004 model years, the Sequoia from 2002 to 2004 and the Lexus SC 430 from 2002 to 2004. At the time, the company said it would need to inspect about 510,000 vehicles in the US but only expected to replace around 170,000 inflators.
However, the latest announcement increases that figure to about 766,300 vehicles in the US. Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the new amount is the combination of owners who need to have their vehicle looked at again and those who didn't come in for the initial recall. The company learned about the problem when Takata, the supplier, provided it with an improved list of the faulty part's serial numbers. According to The Detroit News, the latest recall affects about 2.27 million vehicles from them worldwide. Knight said owners would receive notification of the problem around the end of the month but repairs would come in phases because the automaker doesn't have all of the necessary parts at the moment.

Japanese spark plug giant NGK pleads guilty to price fixing, to pay $52M fine

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

The ongoing investigation by the Department of Justice into price fixing in the automotive industry has nabbed one more company breaking the law. Japanese parts giant NGK Spark Plug Company agreed to plead guilty to a felony count of pricing fixing and bid rigging in the in the US District Court in Detroit. Its punishment is a $52.1 million criminal fine and to continue to cooperate with the DOJ's sleuthing into the problem.
According to the DOJ, NGK conspired to fix prices on spark plugs, standard oxygen sensors, and air fuel ratio sensors on vehicles from major automakers in the US, including the former DaimlerChrysler, Honda and Toyota, in a scheme that ran from at least January 2000 to July 2011. The charge claimed that the company and its co-conspirators held meetings where they agreed on bids and price quotes that were submitted to the automakers.
With the latest plea, the DOJ has caught 28 companies and 26 executives for price-fixing and bid rigging in the auto parts industry, and they have collected $2.4 billion in criminal fines. In 2013, the feds brought nine Japanese suppliers down at once, to collect $740 million. Scroll down to read the DOJ's complete announcement of the case.

This classic Firebird restomod swallowed a Prius

Tue, Apr 19 2016

It takes an unusual eye to look at a 1967 Pontiac Firebird and see the Toyota Prius hidden inside. But that's just the kind of eye that a creative mechanic known online as "Bill the Engineer" has. Bill is updating his old Firebird into a true classic for the 21st century and has documenting the changes over at Priuschat and EcoModder. The TL,DR version of the story: he's replacing the worn-out powertrain with the gas-electric hybrid one from a Prius V, because it turns out the two vehicles have almost exactly the same wheelbase. Bill, who's from Columbus, Ohio and doesn't want his full name used, said in his posts on the conversion project that he's made many memories with this vehicle since buying it back in 1979. Since then, a few moves, a few decades, and some time in storage meant that the car would no longer function as he wanted it to. As he wrote, "when it comes to mice in the vehicles IT IS WAR." His solution is to make new memories and making a greener vehicle, and so we wanted to ask him how things have been going. Bill's been traveling a bit recently, but told AutoblogGreen that he's now figuring out the next steps for this amazing and complicated project. "I always plan things out before I do them," he said. That's the only way something like this can work. ABG: I think we have to start with what gave you the inspiration for this project. Was it simply that you had the two cars and wanted to see them merged into one cool mashup, or was it something else? "One day my wife wondered out loud if the car could be converted into a hybrid... The rest is history." Bill: I have been the owner of my 1967 Firebird convertible since 1979 when I bought it for $750.00. I drove it for years and made many memories. Afterward it was in storage for many years during which time mice at their way into the car and trashed the interior and wiring. I started working on a conventional restoration but always ran into major problems with hidden corrosion, electrical issues and an engine on its last legs. The car was never going to be as nice as I wanted going the conventional route. One day my wife wondered out loud if the car could be converted into a hybrid like our two daily driver Prii. That got me thinking about how it could be done. The rest is history... ABG: It looks like you started in late 2014. Have things gone well since then, or has it been one hassle after another? What has been the biggest setback, and what were the biggest victories?
