BEAUTIFUL 1978 TOYOTA FJ40 LANDCRUISER FRESHLY RESTORED

WELCOME TO MY AUCTION:

HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO WIN A BEAUTIFULLY FRAME ON RESTORED 1978 TOYOTA FJ40 LAND CRUISER.

THIS TRUCK HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SOUTHWEST TRUCK. IT WAS BOUGHT NEW IN ALBUQUERQUE NEW

MEXICO AND HAS BASICALLY SPENT IT'S WHOLE LIFE HERE. IT EVEN HAS THE ORIGINAL DEALER

WINDOW STICKER FROM NEW IN ALBUQUERQUE.

I AM A RESTORER OF THESE TOYOTA'S . WHEN I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IT CAME WITH A FILE FROM THE

PREVIOUS OWNER OF MECHANICAL REBUILDING, MANY MANY RECEIPTS FROM HIS OWNERSHIP.

BEFORE I STARTED THE RESTORATION OF THE BODY AND INTERIOR, I KNEW THE MECHANICS ON THE

FJ40 WERE JUST SUPER. THE TRUCK HAS NO LEAKS! THE ENGINE IS AS SMOOTH AS A SEWING

MACHINE.

NOW FOR WHAT I DID TO THE TRUCK. VIEW ALL PHOTOS SINCE IT SHOWS THE TEAR DOWN AND

REBUILD. THE COMPLETE BODY WAS DISASSEMBLED AND MEDIA BLASTED TO SEE WHAT WAS NEED FOR

A PROPER REPAINT. THE TOYOTA MUSTARD COLOR YOU SEE IS THE FACTORY COLOR IT CAME WITH.

THE TRUCK IS PAINTED WITH DUPONT ACRYLIC ENAMEL INSIDE AND OUT, TOOK THREE GALLONS OF

PAINT FOR THE BEAUTIFUL FINISH YOU SEE HERE TODAY. THE PAINT FINISH IS OUTSTANDING. THE

TRUCK HAD NO FLOOR RUST.

I ELECTED TO RHINO LINE THE INTERIOR FLOOR SURFACES FOR FUTURE USAGE AND PROTECTION

FROM THE ELEMENTS. AS YOU CAN READ ON THE DEALER STICKER THE TRUCK HAD BEEN UNDERCOATED

BEFORE IT WAS FIRST SOLD, THAT IS WHY THIS TRUCK WAS IN SUCH NICE CONDITION. THE TRUCK

SHOWED TO NEVER HAD BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENTS. EVERY PIECE OF

SHEET METAL ON THIS TRUCK IS ORIGINAL TO THE TRUCK WITH EXCEPTION OF THE REAR SILL UNDER

THE AMBULANCE DOORS. THE SILL WAS SHOWING RUST BLISTERS, I ELECTED TO REPLACE RATHER

THAN REPAIR.

EVERYTHING PAINTED SILVER ON THE TRUCK IS ALSO PAINTED IN DUPONT ACRYLIC ENAMEL. ALSO

EVERYTHING THAT IS IS WHITE IS PAINTED THE SAME WAY.

MOST OF THE ASSEMBLY HARDWARE WAS REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL BOLTS.

YOU ARE VIEWING PHOTOS OF THE TRUCK IN VARIOUS STAGES OF THE RESTORATION.

ALL SEATS HAVE BEEN REDONE ALONG WITH THE FOAM IN FACTORY COLOR. I ALSO ADDED A NEW

CARGO MAT FOR THE REAR AND NEW MATS FOR THE FRONT.

ALL GAUGES FUNCTION AS NEW, TRUCK IS JUST A LITTLE OVER 72,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. ALL

ELECTRICAL HAS BEEN GONE THROUGH. ALL LENSES FOR LIGHTS REPLACED.

ALL WINDOW WIND LACE WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS DOOR SEALS. DOORS SHUT LIKE A NEW CAR.

TRUCK, HAS NO RATTLES OR SQUEAKS.

ALL GLASS IS EXCELLENT.

THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD DONE SOME OF THE CHROME YOU SEE . I ASKED HIM WHY HE DIDN'T JUST

BUY THE NEW STAINLESS PARTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE? HE SAID HE DID BUT DIDN'T LIKE THE QUALITY

SO HE ELECTED TO HAVE THE BRIGHT WORK YOU SEE CHROME PLATED INSTEAD. THE THINGS HE DID

SHOW VERY NICE.

THE TRUCK HAS 5 NEW NEXEN ALL TERRAIN TIRES . THESE TIRES HAVE THE PLACES FOR STUDS IF

NEEDED FOR YOUR CLIMATE. THEY ARE 10.50X 31X15 INCH, THESE MAKE THE TRUCK STAND UP

PROUD. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS TRUCK HAS NOT HAD THE REAR FENDERS CUT OUT AND FLAIRS ADDED.

THE TRUCK WILL COME WITH A FOLDER FULL OF RECEIPTS FOR WHAT I HAVE DONE AND THE PREVIOUS

OWNER HAD DONE.

THIS CRUISER DOES NOT HAVE POWER STEERING OR AIR CONDITIONING.

BID WITH CONFIDENCE, THIS IS A GORGEOUS FJ40 THAT YOU WILL BE PROUD TO OWN.

Senator pushes for up to life sentence for auto execs found to delay recalls

Tue, Aug 5 2014

Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill (shown above) has had it with automotive execs stalling when it comes to recalls. The Missiourian has proposed a new bill, the Motor Vehicle and Highway Safety Enhancement Act, which aims to improve the automotive safety following the high-profile fiascos involving General Motors and Toyota. Aside from a doubling of the budget for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over the next six years and the removal of the $35-million limit for fining automakers, the plan includes a provision that would punish auto executives if it's discovered they knowingly delayed recalls. How will it punish them, you ask? Oh, you know, just life in prison. The bill "gives federal prosecutors greater discretion to bring criminal prosecutions for auto safety violations and increases the possible penalties, including up to life in prison for violations that result in death," McCaskill's office told The Detroit News. If a delayed recall led to serious injuries, meanwhile, execs could still face a 15-year stint behind bars. As for that change in the fine structure for automakers, the removal of the limit is complemented by a hefty increase in the per-vehicle fine, from $5,000 to $25,000. With this change, GM could have been on the hook for $55 billion (with a "b") in fines for its bumbling of the ignition switch recall, rather than just $35 million. The News says, though, that NHTSA has "wide discretion" in handing out the fines. Considering a $55-billion fine is enough to sink any automaker, it is unlikely that such a monumental sum would be handed out. Still, the potential threat of such a death sentence should be enough for any automaker to sit up and take notice. "With millions of Americans behind the wheel every day, and more than 33,000 killed on our roads each year, we've got to do more to keep our cars and the roads we drive them on safe," McCaskill said, according to The News. "Painful recent examples at Toyota and GM have shown us we also must make it easier to hold accountable those who jeopardize consumers' safety. For too long, auto safety resources have remained virtually stagnant while cars and the safety challenges they present have become more complex." What do you think? Do you agree with McCaskill's proposed bill? Should the punishments for automakers and execs be more or less harsh? Have your say in Comments. News Source: The Detroit NewsImage Credit: J.

Toyota confirms 2014 Highlander is in a New York state of mind

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Toyota has confirmed that it will be showing off the all-new 2014 Highlander at the New York Auto Show later this month. It's been a while since we've heard about the updated Highlander, but given just how long this thing has been on the market, we certainly hope that the list of changes will be more extensive than the new 2014 Toyota Tundra that debuted in Chicago last month.
Currently, the Highlander is offered in both naturally aspirated and hybrid versions, with front- and all-wheel drive. We don't expect the formula to change too much, since sales of the Japanese CUV are still steady - well in line with newer players in the segment like the Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder and GM's Lambda triplets (Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave).
We'll have the full skinny on the new Highlander in the coming weeks. For now, scroll down to read Toyota's incredibly brief press blast.

Here's the 2017 Toyota 86: Don't call it a Scion

Fri, Feb 5 2016

After we heard the bells toll for Scion yesterday, we told you that the Scion FR-S will transform into a Toyota. That's right: just a rebadging. The practical question is, which badge? The philosophical question, which we can't answer yet, is where it'll sit in the pantheon of front-engined, rear-drive Toyota sports cars, of which the Supra was the last one to visit our shores, from 1992 until 1998 in its fourth generation. And as if summoned by this conversation, this camouflaged prototype appeared. Our best guess is that this is going to be the US-bound, Toyota-badged version of the Subaru BRZ and all the other 86-badged variants: the Toyota 86 (in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and South Africa), Toyota GT86 (in Europe and New Zealand again), and Toyota FT86 (in Nicaragua and Jamaica). For simplicity's sake, let's call it a Toyota 86. Peer into the 86's swirly camo, and it looks like the car is going in for a light refresh. The lower intake in the front fascia, if it's representative of a production part, adopts a different shape and is considerably wider and narrower than either the BRZ or FR-S units. It also appears that the turn signal and its surround are reshaped, different than any of the current variants. Changes out back appear mild. The area around the license plate seems to be smoother, and there is likely a predictable light restyle of the bumper skin and defuser under the camo. We don't expect a significant power increase, and certainly not a turbocharger (sorry!), but crossing fingers wouldn't do any harm. Related Video:
