1977 Toyota Landcruiser Bj40 Bj 40 Diesel 4-speed European Spec. Great Condition on 2040-cars
Phoenix, Arizona, United States
Selling my much loved BJ40 Landcruiser Diesel. Originally sold in Luxembourg Europe. (has heat, no air. also has power brakes)
Clean Arizona title in my name. Well maintained BJ40 with 57000 Kilometers on the clock. I assume this is correct looking at how tight the car feels on the road and how accurate it shifts into it's gears. Clutch feels like new. It drives tight and has always had it's yearly roadworthy inspection, first in Luxembourg and later in it's (mostly garaged) life in The Netherlands where I obtained her. These road tests are very strict, all rubber underneath the car such as fuel and brake hoses, boots and mounts must be in good condition to pass. There can be no play in joints, bearings and steering system. The previous owner bought her to haul wood out of a forest and the occasional bay of hay for his horse. He did this a few times and then stored the BJ for about 7 years until he decided to sell it due to the changed road-tax laws in The Netherlands. (now this BJ is no longer tax exempt, as it's not 40 years old yet) I have driven it all over with much pleasure, in Holland and in the USA. It cruises fine at speeds up to 60 MPH, even with the terrain tires. It will go faster, but I'd install different tires for that. Chevrolet wheels fit by the way. The wheels on it are the original wheels that can be taken apart to change the inner tube. (in case you're stuck in the Sahara with a flat tire by yourself) The top comes off, I never did that though. It's quite the job, lots of bolts. The engine runs very well and has plenty of power. Very torqy famous 4-cylinder Toyota diesel that gets around 27-28MpG all around. I measured by distance and fuel used, as the odometer is in Kilometers and a tad off because of the huge wheels. (when doing 110 on the clock, you're cruising 57 on the GPS) 4 wheel drive works flawless, and so does the immensely powerful winch that is driven by the engine. (on the transfer case) Paint is of good driver quality. It shines up great but is not show quality. I get lots of compliments though. There are a few nickle sized dents in the hood. I noticed a rust spot on the passenger wheel well and 2 quarter size spots under the driver seat. on the passenger door jamb is rust beginning to show. This is an older restoration so expect imperfections in the paint. There is also rust on the rear cargo doors, and I have bought two new doors that will be included in the sale. All in all, for a 37 year old landcruiser the body is in great shape, and so is the undercarriage. Seats are not original but they are very comfortable Recaro seats. The radio does work but is not hooked up as it's a 24 volts system and I'm not sure how that works. All lights etc work, only the interior light above the driver seat doesn't. One of the 3 horn buttons on the steering wheel does not function. Bid with confidence on this great fun cruiser. Ready for work or play or just to drive it for fun like I did. Be sure you can afford it prior to bidding! This vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Non refundable deposit of $650. Zero or low feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding. More foto's available upon request. |

NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
Major Alexa deal will bring Amazon services into more cars
Wed, Jan 9 2019Amazon and its personal assistance service Alexa are partnering with HERE Technologies to create a new connected mobility service powerhouse. Alexa will integrate with HERE's navigation and location services to offer what the two companies are calling a "true voice-first-navigation experience." Alexa will come pre-integrated with HERE navigation on-demand, which the automakers can then enable, which should help cut down on development time. One of the biggest features from this partnership is how directions could be offered and delivered using HERE's Open Location Platform (OLP). Currently, the OLP uses data from several car manufacturers to provide insights into real-time location and traffic. But on Alexa, this could be used to provide directional context. For example, Alexa could say, "Turn right after [such-and-such a building]" rather than just, "Turn right." Amazon has been testing the automotive waters throughout the past decade. Its home-based Alexa-enabled devices are already offered with connections to several manufacturers. To various degrees of integration, it can already pair with Ford, Genesis, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai and BMW vehicles. At the end of 2018, Amazon took things a step further when it introduced the Echo Auto, a Bluetooth-connected Alexa assistant device that can be physically kept in a car. Currently only available by invitation (its production and distribution have been delayed), the $25 device is essentially a voice service that works together with smartphones and connects to a car's speakers. Users can command it to do a variety of things, including playing music, setting navigation, opening the garage door, finding local stores, making calls, setting reminders, and thousands of other "skills." According to The Verge, nearly 1 million people have already ordered the device. Some (well, probably few) may know HERE Technologies from its maps on Windows Phones. We all know how that turned out, though. Today, HERE has expanded into a multi-function suite that is available in multiple mediums, including many automotive applications. HERE Automotive's connected vehicle services include real-time traffic, parking, weather, fuel prices, hazard warnings, traffic sign integration, and even EV charging stations. These all incorporate and extend the use of HERE's location and tracking programming. HERE is already partnered with BMW, Audi, Daimler, Intel, Mobileye, NVIDIA, and has investments from Bosch, Continental and Pioneer.
Honda scores big in Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards [w/videos]
Wed, 15 Jan 2014This year the Detroit Auto Show didn't just celebrate the automobile, it celebrated how we find out about the automobile, too. Partnering The One Club, this year introduced the 2014 One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Award to Cobo Hall, celebrating winners in five different categories of advertising: broadcast television, online, interactive, experiential, and print/outdoor. Winners in those categories were judged by 50 creative directors and journalists, while a Public Choice category was chosen from among nearly 20,000 online votes.
Honda walked off with three of the six awards, its Hands spot taking Broadcast honors, its Sound of Honda getting the Online category and Illusions winning Public Choice. Hyundai made the grade in Interactive with Driveway Decision Maker, Fiat captured Print/Outdoor with its "Letters" ad, and Toyota's Tundra Endeavor Campaign spot and BMW's A Window into the Near Future were co-winners for Experiential.
You can watch all of the press release and winning videos below or check out all of the finalists, announced last month, for a refresher.
