RELISTED DUE TO DEFAULTING BIDDER. RESERVE PRICE LOWERED. Mostly unmolested, very complete 1976 FJ55 wagon. Excellent starting point for a full restoration or restomod. Includes desirable 2F engine with all factory emissions intact for those who must worry about local/state inspections, along with front disc brakes, 4spd. transmission and desirable Aisin hubs. Options include period Warn Bellview winch with all controls, frame-mounted receiver hitch and dealer-option roof rack. Rare solid color OEM Freeborn Red inside and out. This vehicle came from Nevada and has been sitting outside in SW Colorado since 2000. Supposedly ran well until parked for carburetor repair. Previous owner handed me a still-sealed old carb kit and the pieces from the partially-disassembled carb. A second correct used carburetor and $100+ dollars worth of new hoses and belts are included. Oil is good and coolant ran bright green when drained but I have not attempted to start it as there are no keys. Engine turns over freely. Actual mileage is unknown. Odometer shows 33793. Clean Colorado title in my name. Solid body with minimal rust through in a few of the usual places, including lower front fenders and passenger rocker, small area of bubbling in the lower left corner of the tailgate and a silver dollar-sized hole around the body mount bolt in the driver floor. All other is surface rust only. Body mounts and frame are solid with surface rust only. Inside of rear wheel wheels beat at the back bottom, probably by loose tire chains at some point. Rear corners and roof are very good with no rust through. Driver door is cracking around the hinges but easily repairable or use the included spare door shell. Windshield is good. Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility but I will assist your shipper at my end. May consider delivery for expenses within a reasonable distance in the West after payment in full. Can also negotiate to include many surplus used parts from my original project (I’ve owned five of these since 2008 to build my one, including this one acquired after the project was mostly finished). This FJ55 is a much better starting point than I had. PLEASE DO NOT BID WITH NOT INTENT TO COMPLETE THE PURCHASE. I WILL REJECT BIDDERS WITHOUT PRIOR EBAY PURCHASES UNLESS YOU CONTACT ME PRIOR TO BIDDING. |

Toyota expands airbag recall to 2.27M vehicles worldwide
Wed, 11 Jun 2014Was your Toyota inspected under the company's recall campaign for faulty airbag inflators last year? You might have another trip ahead to have it repaired again. The automotive giant says that it found "the involved serial numbers provided by the supplier were incomplete, and did not include all of the potentially involved inflators," according to its official announcement. That means more replacements are needed.
Toyota's April 2013 inflator recall covered the Corolla, Matrix and Tundra from the 2003 and 2004 model years, the Sequoia from 2002 to 2004 and the Lexus SC 430 from 2002 to 2004. At the time, the company said it would need to inspect about 510,000 vehicles in the US but only expected to replace around 170,000 inflators.
However, the latest announcement increases that figure to about 766,300 vehicles in the US. Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the new amount is the combination of owners who need to have their vehicle looked at again and those who didn't come in for the initial recall. The company learned about the problem when Takata, the supplier, provided it with an improved list of the faulty part's serial numbers. According to The Detroit News, the latest recall affects about 2.27 million vehicles from them worldwide. Knight said owners would receive notification of the problem around the end of the month but repairs would come in phases because the automaker doesn't have all of the necessary parts at the moment.
Impala crashes into Land Cruiser... to hide from a cheetah
Fri, 12 Jul 2013What would you do if a wild animal jumped into your vehicle through an open window during an African safari? What if said animal was an impala being chased by cheetahs? Though the scenario seems unbelievable, that's just what happened to a group of tourists in Kruger National Park in South Africa, and it was all caught on video.
With the tour groups stopped, a motorist with a video camera handy happens to catch the unlikely sight of a herd of impalas (not that kind of Impala) jumping over the tarmac while being followed, quickly of course, by two cheetahs. The feline predators thought they had cornered one impala and were closing in for the kill when it jumped through the open window of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado - South Africa's version of the Lexus GX. Fortunately for the occupants of said vehicle, the cheetahs did not follow.
A short while later, one of the occupants in the Toyota fearlessly opens a door to let the poor animal out. It must have been its lucky day, because the cheetahs didn't take pursuit. Check out the circle life get interrupted by this traffic jam in the video below.
2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid
Mon, 21 Oct 2013People, us included, make a big stink about the importance of family sedans. There's no doubt they're critical - they represent a huge slice of the market's annual sales and profits. However, despite accounting for far fewer transactions than the midsize sedan segment, the fullsize sedan is getting attention from manufacturers now that our market's entire lineup of those (slightly) smaller four-doors has turned over in the last two years or so. As most of the fullsize segment's mainstays derive a fair bit of their platform and powertrain technologies from their midsize cousins, these larger four-doors offer the potential for fatter profit margins, too. And with the newly stylish duds found on many of the industry's most successful midsize sedans, it's only right that automakers no longer think about fullsizers as big, squishy, vanilla family haulers with flat seats, vague steering and a thin layer of 'luxury' in the form of faux wood trim.
As manufacturers have again started diving into large sedans feet-first, the cars themselves have become sharper. The interiors are now of a higher quality and loaded with tech, while the exteriors have become further extensions of each manufacturer's design language. There's perhaps no greater example of this than the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus, two models that evolved from subpar offerings into market leaders. This segment-wide transformation happened quite quickly, whether because of coincidental timing or because manufacturers are trying to get more out of their big cars, recognizing they account for a small portion of overall sales (just 3.5 percent of the new-car market in the first half of 2013).
The 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is one such vehicle. We remarked on the changes to the V6 variant last year, and while we previously had a quick steer of the gas-electric hybrid, we figured the new model was worth a closer week-long look.
