My search began in Washington down the coast to California and everywhere in between.   I flew and drove over 3 thousand miles for the right restored fj40 but ALL the restored vehicles that I found were not a RESTORATION in my opinion. They were shinny paint masking cancer/rust or shaudy body work with fresh rattle can black paint on the under carriage then calling a  RESTORED vehicle. Well I'm here to tell you that in my opinion a restoration is something that you take down to the very last bolt and put it together restoring replacing and putting back together.  So with my bad luck I began searching for a rust free Fj which also took some time.

I purchased my dream Fj and began what I call a  rotisserie RESTORATION. I have over 300 photos documenting EVERY detail and every part that was replaced or restored to factory specs. EVERY part of this Cruiser was either replaced with NOS OEM parts, sand blasted and painted or restored in some fashion. If it was bad it was replaced with OEM parts where possible. With restoring a vehicle this old its hard to find lots of parts so you end up find the best of the best and cleanest part you can and restore it. Most people list the items that were replaced in a small bullet list but this list would be WAY too long and boring to read. (i have replaced almost every mechanical part on this rig).  I have spend TONS of money and thousands of hours bringing this vehicle back to life. I built this rig with an open book which is easy to see.  If your looking for a COMPLETELY restored FJ40 that is it in as ORIGINAL condition as possible with only Very minor upgrades, then this one might be what your looking for.. If you want the typical "restoratiopn" this is not it and the price will reflect that.

This vehicle is for the true Land Cruiser CURATOR who is willing to pay good money for the best. The last FJ40 that was built to this quality went for 88k at the Barrett Jackson auction in 2013. These will only go up in value.

Sports 800 is a progenitor of Toyota performance

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

There's an automotive axiom that claims it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. If that's the case, then pushing a Toyota Sports 800 around must be one of the most exhilarating experiences behind the wheel in the world. With just 800cc of displacement from a two-cylinder boxer engine, the focus is on finesse over outright speed. Still, it's a fantastic page in Toyota's performance history, and Petrolicious takes a ride with a man who owns a meticulously restored 1967 example in its latest video.
The Sports 800 used the classic cost-saving strategy in the auto industry of taking parts from a standard model in the lineup and modifying it into a sports car. In this case that meant borrowing the engine from the plebian Toyota Publica, beefing it up for more power and clothing the whole thing a in beautifully shaped, wind-tunnel-honed body.
The look of these lithe, targa roadsters is the exact opposite of the rather dull styling sometimes associated with Toyota today. Everywhere you look there are louvers, vents or curves to draw the eye. Check out the latest Petrolicious video for a detailed look at the history of this rare model that's largely unknown on this side of the Pacific.

Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:

Consumer Reports says Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevy are big winners in brand perception survey

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

According to Consumer Reports, the automotive brands that stand out in the minds of car buyers are, in order: Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevrolet. This news comes after the magazine polled its readers, asking them to take into account vehicle quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation - which are the factors that car shoppers are most influenced by.
It's important to note that this award is only about perception. In other words, it's perceived quality, not actual quality. "Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category, and it can also be influenced by headlines in the media," said Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy automotive editor.
The brand that made the biggest jump in perception amongst Consumer Reports readers is Tesla, which posted an impressive 47-point gain to finish in fifth place. Subaru is also notable for finishing in the top 10, despite being one of the smaller manufacturers doing business in the US. Scroll down below for all the details from Consumer Reports, if you're so inclined.
