Here is the brief story behind this Cruiser. I have owned 25 Land Cruisers since the early 1970's. I restore some of them and have a wonderful collection of rare vehicles. A contact of mine asked if I would assist him in checking out this attached FJ55. I did assist and as a result he bought it. The cruiser was a California Cruiser its whole life and owned by just one family. It was this buyers intent to restore the pig. He decided after buying it that it was too original to restore. He also decided that it was not what he wanted to keep long term. At that point I had a friend / client in the Philippines who was looking for one to purchase. This client wanted an " all original " only. He ended up, through my introduction, buying the pig. It was shipped to my home here in Temecula as I was to hold on to it until all of the paperwork was done for transport to the Philippines. Well, the paperwork was denied and the Land Cruiser was not allowed to be shipped overseas. The current owner from the Philippines has asked me to sell it for him. As mentioned, this FJ55 is garaged here in Temecula, California. I have taken recent pictures of it as seen in this Ebay ad. It is quite an amazing FJ55. Finding originals in this condition is extremely rare. Toyota did not import many of them. This one also is a 1975, the first year Toyota put in the more robust 2F engine. We did a compression check last week and adjusted the valves. It runs perfect and compression is perfect as numbers indicate above. This engine, because it was so well taken care of, will last a very long time in our opinion. I have owned 4 pigs. This one is the most original and complete that I have ever seen. As many of you know, finding body parts for the old FJ55 Land Cruisers can be very difficult. This one has all of the original parts. It is a 4 speed, floor shift. As many of you also know, the pigs can be prone to heavy cancer rust, especially along the roof line. This one has no Cancer rust. I have the reserve set for the owner at a reasonable price based on the Land Cruisers rarity and condition. As a restorer and owner of many Land Cruisers I can tell you that finding an original in this condition is EXTREMELY RARE. The owner is not going to give it away but he feels the reserve is set fairly. I have taken many detailed pictures. I can also take more of certain area's if you email with that request. Please also email any questions and I will post them for others to see. I am hoping to find a good home for this rare bird. The cruiser can be used with confidence as a daily driver, can be taken on any extended trip and is perfect for car shows. It gets a lot of attention because of its condition are rarity. Good luck bidding.

2014 Toyota Prius crash test rating drops to four stars

Thu, Jan 16 2014

If nothing has changed, then how come something changed? That's the question behind the recent drop from five to four stars in the crash test rating for the Toyota Prius. As you can see on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the 2014 Prius gets four stars overall while the 2013 got five. The two cars are basically identical, so what gives? Toyota says it is not sure why NHTSA rated the Prius a four this time. Starting with the 2011 model year, NHTSA updated its rating system and says in a FAQ that vehicles that had four- or five-star ratings could get lower ratings "even if no changes have been made to the vehicle." Green Car Reports says that the issue is a new set of frontal barrier tests that were conducted on the 2014 Prius last month and that resulted in the first new bits of crash test data for the car in years. The 2012 and 2013 Prius models were rated based on tests done in February 2011 on a 2011 Prius. All of these are variants of the third-generation model. The next-gen Prius is expected in 2015. Jana Hartline, environmental communication manager at Toyota Motor Sales, USA, told AutoblogGreen that the company doesn't quite know what's going on with the drop in crash test scores: There have been no changes in the test standards and no changes in the car, other than minor reinforcement for small overlap crash test which we believe did not compromise integrity. We are not sure why it rated a 4 this time. We are looking at the test results and we are confident the new generation will move back to 5 stars. 2014 Prius still has a five-star rating for the side crash test and four in the rollover test. Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?

Mon, Feb 27 2017

We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.
