1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Factory Soft Top
F.5 3.9 Engine
First year 4 speed on the floor
Rustic Green original matched paint
Barn find, stock daily driver restoration
Extremely rare khaki OEM reproduction soft doors and top
Dependable and road trip ready
I found this cruiser in a gentleman's airplane hangar in north Texas almost two years ago.  It had been a Texas vehicle it's whole life and was all original down to the factory soft top bows.  The only rust issue was in the front corner floorboards where water had collected from it sitting with no top.  The usual FJ40 rust spots in the rear quarters and sill were in fantastic shape and needed no work; truly a survivor.  After adding a new battery and changing all the engine fluids, I bottle-fed the carb and it started right up!  A testament to the longevity and dependability of the classic FJ40.  I found a replacement heavy gauge steel upper floorpan and had it professionally welded in with the original screw grommets so everything fit flush and bolted right in.  I did all the paint work with a friend and used the original matched paint code #621 Rustic Green.
I am a Land Cruiser enthusiast and restorer in northeast Texas and I take pride in giving these extremely dependable machines new life. I find only the best candidates with little to no rust and take my time.
I use every OEM part that I possibly can, and the rest I source out from local Landcruiser specialists.  Every mechanical part is combed through and replaced if faulty or worn out. I change all the fluids down to the differentials.  I intend for the cruiser to be a daily driver and meet the needs of today on and off the road.
Strong stock suspension with heavy-duty Monroe shocks and steering stabilizer. I added a set of 5 Goodyear MT/R Kevlar tires on the OEM steel wheels. Highly desirable Warn locking hubs and Warn 8274 winch mounted on the stock front bumper.
All of the gauges and interior lights are in working order. The interior is brand new, two buckets and two rear jump seats, professionally recovered by one of the leading Cruiser upholstery guys in the country.
This is the best example of an original FJ40 that I have seen, down to the original floor mat. The Cruiser has a brand new radiator and thermostat, motor is strong and there are absolutely no leaks. Original drum brakes have been updated with all new wheel cylinders and a new master cylinder up front. Carburetor has a fresh rebuild and the gas tank is brand new. I just returned from a 250 mile weekend trip without issue.
This is a labor of love for me and I want to continue my passion of keeping old cruisers on the road.
I have an FJ55 project I am ready to start, so on down the road this one goes. Please feel free to ask me questions. I will include photos, but if you need anything specific, just let me know.

2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

Thu, 23 Oct 2014

Despite the earnest efforts of Japanese automakers like Toyota and Nissan, the American pickup truck scene remains wholly dominated by the likes of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. This is not news. Part of the reason is because of the sheer number of variants offered by US automakers - everything from work-spec base trucks to house-leveling heavy duty models can be had, with a seemingly endless combination of engines, cab sizes, bed lengths and trim levels. It's a hugely profitable business, and though the Japanese automakers still offer competitive fullsize trucks, in terms of sheer volume, they simply don't compete.
But American pickups aren't just about work; there's a huge play aspect involved, too. Look at the desert-storming Ford F-150 SVT Raptor or the Ram Power Wagon - these butch trucks are built with superb off-road prowess in mind, and Detroit's Japanese rivals have once again largely been silent in this segment. Until now.
Introduced at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, Toyota now offers the TRD Pro series of models that, in addition to the crazy-orange Tundra seen here, includes the smaller Tacoma pickup and 4Runner SUV. And this isn't just some pretty appearance package, either - there's honest-to-goodness capability baked into all of the TRD Pro models. Intriguing, for sure, so I recently spent a weekend with the big boy Tundra to see what's what.

Recharge Wrap-up: Model X pinch sensor update, Karma plans first store

Fri, Aug 26 2016

Tesla has improved Model X pinch sensor function in its latest over-the-air update. As we've seen, the pinch sensors already stop the falcon wing doors from completely shutting when they sense an obstruction. Now, though, the doors retract slightly after the sensors are triggered. While the pre-update doors didn't appear to do as much damage to human fingers as they do to various foodstuffs, it definitely looked uncomfortable, especially when one's hand is stuck in the partially closed door. Now, any pinch that does occur should be brief. See the updated sensors at work in the video above, and read more from Teslarati. Karma Automotive will move to Kawasaki's former headquarters in Irvine, California where it will also open its first store. The revival of the now defunct Fisker will sell its Revero plug-in hybrid through both dealerships and company-owned stores like the one planned for its new two-building campus. The property owner, Bixby, had planned to renovate the site, but now says Karma will make its own improvements. Bixby said it was seeking, "a progressive-minded tenant that would value the unique configuration," and appears to have found just that in Karma. Read more at Electrek, or from the OC Register. San Francisco is asking residents for help in expanding its subways. Using an online tool called Subway Vision, users can draw their own subway lines and stations that they'd like to see built and submit them to planners. Listening to the public is a useful tool for the city because, as Grahm Satterwhite, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's principal planner, admits, "Transportation planners may be too close to a problem to see the solution." This approach allows the subway expansions to "reflect the vision of not just a few transportation planners, but of all San Franciscans," he says. Read more from FastCo.Exist. Toyota is continuing its commitment to Yellowstone National Park with a sustainable Youth Campus for environmental education. The automaker donated $1 million to Yellowstone for the facility, which is seeking Living Building Challenge certification. It will have onsite wastewater treatment for its locally sourced water usage, and will generate all of its electricity needs from photovoltaic panels, with excess to put back into the grid. The campus will have classrooms and residences for students and staff for its youth programs.

Japanese automakers kick in $800k for new charging-station company

Mon, Jun 2 2014

Cynics may say that gathering $800,000 (total) from four of Japan's largest automakers is merely a rounding error. Still, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi, along with the Development Bank of Japan, are putting those funds to good use. So, that's something. Last week, those five entities officially founded Nippon Charge Service LLC. The company was established to promote plug-in vehicle charging installations across Japan and the automakers seeded it with 80 million yen, or about $786,000 US. Those funds will be used to help business owners deploy charging stations at convenience stores, highway-side locales and other locations that will make it easier for plug-in vehicle drivers (of Toyotas, Hondas, Mitsubishis and Nissans, obviously) to get their juice. The automakers first announced they'd collaborate last year, when they said they'd work with the Japanese government to more than triple the country's publicly accessible chargers to about 17,000 units. No targets were disclosed as far as how many charging stations would be deployed this time out, but, in a move similar to the EZ Charge system in the US, Nippon Charge Service will also have universally-accepted charging cards available by the end of the year to drivers all of those brands' plug-in vehicles to make the charging process a little more seamless. TOKYO, Japan, May 30, 2014 - Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Honda Motor Co., Ltd., and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation jointly established a new company, Nippon Charge Service, LLC, on May 26 to promote the installation of chargers for electric-powered vehicles (PHVs, PHEVs, EVs). The goal is to help build a charging network that offers more convenience to drivers in Japan. The new company will promote the installation of chargers, for the good of society and to expand the use of electric-powered vehicles. Related industries are also expected to benefit.
