Rutland, Vermont, United States
THIS RIG STARTS RUNS DRIVES AND STOPS. I am currently driving and have put about 500 miles on it this summer. Though stopping can be interesting. 4x4 works as it should. That being said there are lots of little and big things need finish. That amount depends on how far you want to take it. Woods? Beater? Daily driver. 350 Chevy Toyota 3spd Power steering 2" or so lift 32" tires some dry rot 90% tread Fj60 wheels V8 battery tray New AA CHROME HEADERS Holley 570 street avenger The tub was very rusty. It was removed, all the rot was cut out. Any structural rot that was removed was replaced (floors, rear sill, body supports). Any cosmetic rust like the quarter panels was cut out, painted with POR 15 and covered with the diamond plate panels. The entire tub was covered top and bottom with POR 15 then the top half was covered with roll on bed liner. The frame and front axle was also painted. It has two newer loaded front brake panels. The brakes function, but not well. They pull pretty bad to one side. There is a brand new set of AA headers (1 on 1 not installed). The cowl was tender also so the same thing was done, that was done to the tub. Front fenders are there but that's pretty much there value. They have been welded on and filled with bondo several times. The bib is rust free and aprons are nice. Windshield frame has not been removed but looks decent with minimal visible rust. Specter off road seat covers( pass seat is good driver seat is decent. Fuel tank is nice. I am sure I am forgetting things. I will add more details as I think of them. Toyota JPN Taxi Concept is a Japanese riff on an English classic
Wed, 20 Nov 2013As far as beasts of burden go, New York City's new - and much maligned - Nissan NV200 "Taxi of Tomorrow" isn't a bad one. It's space efficient, reasonably economical, and its simple construction should mean it's pretty robust over the long haul, too. But it lacks panache and a sense of occasion - let alone a sense of humor - three things this this Toyota JPN Taxi Concept we found at the Tokyo Motor Show has in spades.
Unfortunately, that's about all the information we have on this cheeky London-taxi-inspired showcar. Toyota hasn't provided much in the way of details, other than to proclaim that the five-seat JPN was "created with Japanese hospitality in mind" and it "aims to enliven city streets." Japan's livery landscape has long been occupied by traditional three-box sedans - models like the Toyota Crown and Nissan Cedric. The JPN Taxi at just over 171 inches would appear to offer both a tighter footprint and added whimsy, both of which are in the automaker's favor; we hear it hopes this concept will one day become the country's own version of America's yellow Crown Vic cab.
Toyota isn't providing powertrain specifications, but we like the airy feeling of the interior (Japanese cabs typically don't have cumbersome partitions between cabbie and passengers), the minimalist driver area with three screens, and the widescreen overhead video system for passengers that bookends the panoramic moonroof. Check it out in our gallery of live shots and let us know what you think in Comments.
NHTSA may investigate new Toyota unintended acceleration case
Mon, Jul 13 2015After paying a $1.2-billion settlement to the US government last year, Toyota largely put the unintended acceleration recall behind it. Although, there were still some civil lawsuits to handle. A new case where the owner of a 2009 Lexus ES350 is petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to open another analysis could draw the issue back to the forefront. Investigators are still deciding whether to research these claims further, though. According to this petition, the owner's wife was driving the ES350 in February 2015. While pulling into a parking space, the sedan allegedly surged forward, and there was a low-speed accident. The claim asserts there are at least two other similar cases in NHTSA's database: one in a 2009 Camry in 2009 and another in a 2010 Corolla in 2014. Specifically, this person wants an "investigation into low-speed surging in different models of Toyota automobiles in which the car starts accelerating and the engine RPM increases even when the accelerator pedal is not depressed," according to the agency. NHTSA will do further research into this person's claim and will decide whether to conduct a full investigation into the alleged issue. This won't be the first reappraisal of unintended acceleration in Toyotas by the agency in recent months, though. Between September 2014 and May 2015, NHTSA evaluated a similar petition with allegations covering 2006-2010 Corollas, and the government body decided to deny that one because the problem couldn't be replicated. The petition was prompted by a February 2015 crash involving a model year (MY) 2009 Lexus ES350, which allegedly surged as the petitioner's wife was pulling into a parking spot.
Fuel cells will flop outside Japan, says VW
Fri, 12 Sep 2014
"It may fly within Japan, but not globally," VW's Shoji said.
It's long been battered into our beleaguered auto writer brains that the ultimate future source of motivation for tomorrow's cars and trucks is not gasoline, diesel, electricity, natural gas, propane or solar power - it's the hydrogen fuel cell. It's been the Next Big Thing since the start of Next Big Things.
