1969 Toyota Landcruiser Fj40 on 2040-cars
Sandy, Utah, United States
For sale is my 1969 FJ40 Landcruiser. I hate to see it parked on the side of the house, when I know someone else can enjoy it. I start it a couple times a year to get the fluids moving, and that is about it. When rebuilt (probably 10 years ago) the frame and body were sandblasted, epoxy primed, and painted. The suspension is a simple spring over conversion which equates to about six inches of lift with a shackle reversal, and the FJ currently has 35 x 12.5 x 15’s. The tread has almost 100% remaining, which goes to show how much it has not been driven. The motor is a rebuilt (professionally) small block 350 with Fuelie heads, and under 1000 miles. New headers and radiator round out the motor. The speedo cable is not hooked up, but I probably drove it less than 3 months after it was built. After that, I moved to another state, and it has literally been parked ever since. The drive train consists of a SM420 (Chevy) 4-speed transmission with the stock FJ transfer case (also rebuilt), all mounted to a Center Force clutch. The transfer case was converted to manual linkage removing the vacuum lines from the previous motor. The front end has a disc brake conversion, welded differential, and power steering. The interior of the FJ has a full cage and has been rhino lined. Additionally there are bucket seats, a soft top and a bikini top. Mounted on the front is a one off bumper, and a Warn 8000 pound winch. The cable is bound up, so it will need to be cut and replaced. Extras include a spare fuel tank in the rear, KC lights, and Auto Meter gauges (the water temp and volt meter need adjustment, or replacement). I have a warn winch kit, and a cover for the cruiser as well. The cover has a few tears, but I will include…at least it can be covered well if you choose to ship. The body is pretty straight as you can see in the pics, but it does have the standard “FJ Rot” in the rear. The FJ is ready to go, or could be a good start for a project, or additional modifying. I tried to get as many pics as I could to show each angle. I can try to get more if needed. I have described the FJ as best as I can. Remember, it is a 1969. I have been asked so many questions in the past when I posted locally. Can it be a daily driver? Sure….if you don’t mind no doors, heat, A/C, music, or getting 8 miles to the gallon. Is it titled? It is, and I have it. How does it ride? Well…it actually rides pretty good considering the spring over. Drive it day one, or play with it a little and make it better. It is pretty solid, so you should be happy. Buyer is responsible for shipping; that includes pick up, and shipping fees. I can drive it to the nearest shopping center or Home Depot parking lot for pick up if shipping. I live close to a few areas. I do require a non-refundable 10% deposit if purchased. Email if you have questions which were not answered.

Toyota fears supplier pressure in Australia with GM pull out
Wed, 11 Dec 2013With Ford and General Motors both announcing an end to production in Australia, the country's auto industry is in a bad way. With the exit of two big players, there's increased concern that a third Australian manufacturer, Toyota, will be forced out, as well.
"We are saddened to learn of GM Holden's decision. This will place unprecedented pressure on the local supplier network and our ability to build cars in Australia," Toyota Australia said in a statement. The GM closure of Holden production will be the direct end to 2,900 jobs, but will also force a dramatic reduction in the size of the country's supplier network, as there will simply be fewer cars to build.
In the same statement, Toyota Australia said it would work with suppliers and local government to figure out whether continuing production Down Under was even feasible. According to Automotive News, a representative for the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union told reporters it was "highly likely" that Toyota would also close up shop within the next few years.
Toyota recalling 800k Camry, Avalon and Venza models for AC issue
Thu, 17 Oct 2013Toyota has announced plans to voluntarily recall 803,000 vehicles from model years 2012 and 2013, over concerns with the air conditioning condenser housing. The recall covers the Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and Venza, although the exact split between affected models wasn't available.
According to Toyota, the condenser can leak onto an airbag control module, which in turn could cause a short circuit. In most cases, this will just lead to an airbag warning light, but in rarer instances, the airbags could fail to deploy or pop out of their own accord. There's also a concern over a loss of power steering if the airbag control module develops a short.
It's unclear if there have been any injuries or crashes relating to the defects. Toyota will begin informing owners of affected vehicles via first class mail, and will ask them to report to dealerships for recall work, involving the installation of a cover on the condenser housing.
Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"
Mon, 03 Dec 2012The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.
