THE GOOD: This is an amazingly good running little car. Everything works as it should- cold air conditioning on hot summer days, plenty of heat on cold days. It has an Alpine AM-FM CD stereo system. Exterior has some scratches here and there, and a pretty obvious scar on the right rear bumper. No major dents to be found. Gas mileage is excellent. It never fails to start immediately, even on the coldest days. It runs perfect, and the engine is very smooth and quiet. In the last several months it's had new battery, new front struts/shocks, new tires (Goodyear), transmission serviced and fluid changed, coolant drained and replaced, complete brake service with new pads, etc new valve cover gasket and PCV valve, new air filter, engine tune-up. The interior is decent, no rips, tears, etc., it has gray cloth seats. It has a lot of miles, but then I've seen Toyotas still running well at 300,000.

THE BAD: The car has one flaw I'm aware of- it consumes oil. I've had the valve cover replaced, as well as the PCV valve, both are normally suspect when a car is using oil. Once warmed up, there is not a trace of smoke from the tailpipe. However, on cold mornings, it sometimes produces a small amount of blue smoke for the first couple of minutes, then it goes away. I've had two different shops look at it and try to diagnose it. One was the Toyota dealer, who thought it was valve cover gasket (it's not), PCV valve (not that either), or oil pan gasket (haven't tried that yet, but I don't think that's it). The oil pan gasket is about a $200 job, and I don't see any sign of drips or leaks anywhere on it. The other shop thinks that it's burning a lot of oil on cold starts, which they say isn't at all uncommon for the 1.8 liter engine. You can park the car for days, and there are absolutely no drips or leaks anywhere. So I just make sure to check the oil very regularly, and add as needed. It's an inconvenience, but I simply can't find the culprit for where the oil is going! I think the cold engine theory is most likely, as that's when you can sometimes see a little blue smoke out the tail pipe.

So, the bottom line is, it's a great running, very fuel efficient little car with a good maintenance history, and everything in working order. It has a few scratches and imperfections, but nothing real bad, and no rust. Decent interior, great stereo, and a nice ride. It has a lot of zip for a little 1.8 four cylinder engine. If you don't mind checking the oil very regularly, and keeping it topped off, it'll make a great little car for somebody, especially at the price! The car is for sale locally as well as on e-bay, so if you think you're interested, I really don't believe it'll last long. Kelly Blue Book in "good" condition with the miles on it is $2,581.00, and in "fair" condition is $2,081.00. So I accounted for the oil issue, and set the price accordingly. The car has a clear title, which will be signed off and turned over with a cash payment.

Fri, Mar 24 2023

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by News Editor Joel Stocksdale. They start off with one of the week's biggest official news items — the impending death of the sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro. On the subject of powerful American cars, they pivot to a teaser from Stellantis execs that there are big things ahead for its Dodge Charger SRT Daytona Banshee concept. From there, they look at Ferrari's new topless Roma and then get into Ford's multi-billion-dollar electric vehicle pivot. Speaking of expensive EVs, Joel just got back from driving the new GMC Hummer SUV. He also had the new F-150 Lightning Pro in his driveway, and that's followed by Greg's update on Autoblog's long-term Toyota Sienna.  Autoblog Podcast # 773 Get The Podcast Apple Podcasts – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes Spotify – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast on Spotify RSS – Add the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator MP3 – Download the MP3 directly Rundown News Chevrolet Camaro production will officially end after 2024 model year Dodge CEO teases more to come from Charger SRT Daytona Banshee Ferrari Roma Spider returns a front-engined soft top to the lineup Ford Model e losing billions as it says EV unit should be seen as startup What we're driving Ford F-150 Lightning Pro 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV 2023 Toyota Sienna Platinum AWD Feedback Email – Podcast@Autoblog.com Review the show on Apple Podcasts Autoblog is now live on your smart speakers and voice assistants with the audio Autoblog Daily Digest. Toyota temporarily idles pair of Indian plants due to labor unrest

Thu, 20 Mar 2014

The Detroit News reported today that Toyota will restart production at two Indian plants, following a shutdown on Monday.
Factory labor, management and police in Asia engage in the kind of violent altercations that we're not used to, having almost entirely walked away from the overtly brutal relations epitomized by the Pinkerton Detective Agency and the Flint Sit-Down Strike. In India, a plant owned by a Ford transmission supplier plant was shut down in 2009 after incidents between workers and armed men around the same time as Ssangyong workers occupied a factory in South Korea, in 2012 Suzuki Maruti workers rioted over wages around the same time upset employees beat a ceramics factory president to death in retaliation for a labor leader's killing.
Toyota is the latest to company trying to avoid that road. The Detroit Free Press reported earlier this week that it shut down two plants in India after 11 months of acrimonious wage negotiations and arbitration have gone nowhere. Toyota said the plant workers in Bidadi, near Bangalore, had deliberately stopped production at times over the past 45 days and threatened management. The workers said they wanted their wages raised by an amount already agreed to by management, but that management had reneged; news reports weren't clear on the amount, some saying nearly 10,000 rupees ($165 US) more per month, another saying 4,000 rupees ($65 US), but reports agree that Toyota has said it will only go as high as 3,050 rupees ($50 US).

Hi-po Toyota GT86 to get KERS?

Fri, 09 Nov 2012

We happen to like the Toyota GT86 - and, it of course goes without saying that the same applies to the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S, as well - just the way it is. Yes, that includes the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine and its 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm.
That said, a little extra power never hurt anybody, right?
The most obvious way to add some punch to the GT86 would be with a turbocharger, and that has indeed long been rumored for an STI version of the BRZ. Will Toyota follow suit? According to Top Gear, the answer is no. Says GT86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, "I think 300bhp with a turbo and 200g/km of CO2 would be tasteless in this day and age. And a turbo would mean the loss of the GT86's uniqueness." Perhaps a bit harsh, but there you go.
