 Straight-body, no rust, fair paint.  Good-running old Toyota.  Was my daily driver until I retired this year.  I drove it 60 miles per day and it never let me down over a 10-year period.

The driver's seat back has a wear hole in the edge.  Otherwise, the interior is in fair condition with the exception of the headliner which is sagging and cracking on the dash panel on right side where sun shines directly on it. There are some stains on the cloth seat inserts but overall not bad.

  The car starts, runs, drives, stops as it should.  Transmission and clutch work perfectly.  A/C works. Tires are good, nearly new.  Engine is all original and does have an oil leak.  It is more a nuisance than anything.

  Driving it at interstate speeds to work every day it would leak a quart in a week.  Driving in town and at more moderate speeds lessens the amount of leakage.  It seems to be coming from the crankshaft seal.  This is replaceable without engine removal.  I just lived with it for 10 years rather than tinker with something that was working well otherwise.

  In the photos, the engine has not been cleaned.  You are looking at what you will get.  There is a slight leak in the radiator header.  Not enough to require adding coolant except maybe once in a few months. 

  The photos were taken yesterday and therefore represent the current state of the vehicle.

  This is an old vehicle and I have been running 'antique' tags recently.  This is a big savings in itself and is perfectly legal if you own more than one vehicle that is accessed and licensed.

  Being an old vehicle with high miles, there is no guarantee.  But....it IS a Toyota.  My brother's Toyota truck is still running with over 300,0000 miles on it.

  These old cars are fairly hard to find....especially in fair condition.  Even if you had to work on the engine, it is a good investment.  I wouldn't even consider selling if I wasn't retired and didn't have several other vehicles.

  Please ask questions if the condition wasn't described sufficiently, etc.

NOTE:  Does not have power windows as in description box...couldn't figure out how to keep the automatic robot from putting that in there!

Legal approach in $1.2 billion Toyota settlement could impact handling of GM recall cases

In the past, if an automaker did something wrong, they were usually prosecuted by the US government through something called the TREAD Act. Short for Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, it basically requires automakers to report recalls in other countries, along with any and all serious injuries or deaths, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Failing to report or attempting to conceal anything when there's been a death or serious injury constitutes a criminal liability. The idea is that this setup puts the onus on manufacturers to keep NHTSA apprised of safety related issues before they become a problem in the US, thereby allowing the regulator to better protect consumers.
In theory, it sounds like a relatively airtight set of rules for dealing with misbehaving automakers. That didn't stop the US Department of Justice from ignoring TREAD in its prosecution of Toyota's handling of the unintended acceleration recall, though. The result of this new approach, which charged Toyota with wire fraud, was a $1.2 billion settlement. Now, the wire-fraud approach could be used for the expected case between the US government and General Motors, based on the statements of Attorney General Eric Holder, who specifically mentioned "similarly situated companies" when discussing Toyota.

Was there a better time for Japanese performance than the 1980s and 1990s? It seems like looking back, Japan was on a roll, producing cars that were affordable, economical, reliable, fast and lightweight. And while all the attention is - thanks to a certain film series - focused on cars like Toyota Supra and Mazda RX-7, there is a lesser-known model that's establishing its own enduring legacy without the help of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel.
The MR2, affectionately known as the "Mister Two" to fanboys, first arrived in 1984 as a lightweight, mid-engined sports car that proceeded to eat the lunch of the Pontiac Fiero in terms of performance. That car was replaced in 1989 with the more familiar, rounded-out MR2, which is the subject of this latest video from the team at Petrolicious.

Scion pondering move upmarket?

Scion is simultaneously celebrating its ten-year anniversary with the 10 Series models and trying to figure out what to do with itself over the next ten years. Once a go-to consideration for young, first-time buyers who wanted something cool and different, in 2013 it has a model everyone is still talking about in the FR-S, a model few are still talking about in the iQ, and three models in between in the tC, xB and xD that make everyone wonder, "What happened?"
Automotive News spoke to Toyota's North American CEO, Jim Lentz - he was the VP in charge of Scion when it launched - about the options, and Lentz said one of them could be a move upmarket to challenge the established luxury brands that are moving downmarket. "There's going to be a big need in the $25,000 range for a fun-to-drive, nice-looking, value-oriented product," he said, and the FR-S, which starts at $25,255, could provide the platform for Scion to climb up a notch or two in price and perception. An idea like this could conceivably work in tandem with a proposal to move entry-level Scion products over to the Toyota brand - but remember, this is all just ideas on a whiteboard at the moment.
As opposed to an "entry-luxury fighter," the brand could swing back to the other option that was considered when it was formed, directly challenging the Korean makes that have usurped its cachet with first-time buyers. Lentz said Scion could go either way, and the tone of the piece seems to indicate that the final direction is still a ways away from being resolved.
