Hi, up for auction is my 80/81 Toyota Corolla five door / Wagon. I say 80/81 because the door jam badge says Oct. 1980 and the registration says 1981. I did my best to take pictures of everything the good, the bad, the ugly. Firstly the car is in running condition and has been my daily driver for the past year or two. It has a oil leak but I'm not sure from where. It shifts smooth and runs like a top. It tends to get a little "squirrelie" once you get past 65 mph. I never had the need to get over 60 mph on the roads I travel. To tell the truth this has been the most reliable used car I have owned to date. The A/C belt is missing, the previous owner removed it. He said the A/C didn't work. I run premium grade fuel in her and get and average of 30 mpg. The brakes and clutch seem to have a lot of life left in them. The tires have decent tread. I recently replaced the starter, alternator and battery. I was trying the trial and error method to a starting issue(it would just click). Turned out it was just some corrosion on the ground cable at the battery connection. As far as the body goes there is a few dings, dents, damage and rust. Hopefully you can see all of it in the pictures. There is a bit of damage on the passenger side fender by the bumper. A dent on the rear door. A small bit of rust at the bottom of the back side windows and a bit on the bottom of the front doors but nothing major past that. The piece of chrome trim/rain trail is crinkled. At some point someone replaced the drivers seat. The rest of the seats are original and the passenger seat is torn up on the butt. The head liner has some tears and stains of some sort. It's not a modern head liner and dosn't hang down or anything of that nature. I have some aftermarket floor mats in it. There is a crack in the dash. The gauge cluster lights don't work but there is a rigged up light that works just fine. The windshield has a crack from one end to the other and was "repaired". The radio didn't work so I hooked up a small amp with an audio cable to play my I pod through some small speakers. All the gauges function like they should. Past that this thing is a sweet time capsule of a car. It's amazing how many heads it turns for what it is. I hate to let this one go. I live in Elm City, NC and my phone number is 252-360-7915. Call anytime. I would feel better if you came to look at it prior to bidding but that's on you. If you bid and win you must pay withing 24 hours and all sales are final. But you should come take it for a spin and fall in love! If you pay but cant pick it up soon that's fine I will park it in the shade and await your arrival for pick up. Ask away with questions! -Jesse

Watch a Toyota Highlander ram a house, twice
Mon, 15 Apr 2013Toyota has had plenty of problems in recent years due to claims of unintended acceleration, and now here's a video that actually catches such a claim on video. The driver of this 2010-2013 Toyota Highlander claims that the crossover's accelerator got stuck causing the vehicle to slam into the house twice, and resulting in damage to the Highlander, the house and two vehicles inside the garage. While we don't know when this accident took place, the video was uploaded to YouTube back in January.
It is impossible to determine what actually happened in this video, but what we do know is that a security camera captures the Highlander slowly pulling into the driveway before it lunges forward slamming into the garage. With the tires squealing and metal crunching, the driver then shifts between reverse and drive a couple times causing even more property damage before spinning out in the street and finally being able to shift into Park. Scroll down to see the video for yourself. Whether unintended acceleration or driver error, this was undoubtedly a harrowing ordeal.
Ford fights back against patent trolls
Fri, Feb 13 2015Some people are just awful. Some organizations are just as awful. And when those people join those organizations, we get stories like this one, where Ford has spent the past several years combatting so-called patent trolls. According to Automotive News, these malicious organizations have filed over a dozen lawsuits against the company since 2012. They work by purchasing patents, only to later accuse companies of misusing intellectual property, despite the fact that the so-called patent assertion companies never actually, you know, do anything with said intellectual property. AN reports that both Hyundai and Toyota have been victimized by these companies, with the former forced to pay $11.5 million to a company called Clear With Computers. Toyota, meanwhile, settled with Paice LLC, over its hybrid tech. The world's largest automaker agreed to pay $5 million, on top of $98 for every hybrid it sold (if the terms of the deal included each of the roughly 1.5 million hybrids Toyota sold since 2000, the company would have owed $147 million). Including the previous couple of examples, AN reports 107 suits were filed against automakers last year alone. But Ford is taking action to prevent further troubles... kind of. The company has signed on with a firm called RPX, in what sounds strangely like a protection racket. Automakers like Ford pay RPX around $1.5 million each year for access to its catalog of patents, which it spent nearly $1 billion building. "We take the protection and licensing of patented innovations very seriously," Ford told AN via email. "And as many smart businesses are doing, we are taking proactive steps to protect against those seeking patent infringement litigation." What are your thoughts on this? Should this patent business be better managed? Is it reasonable that companies purchase patents only to file suit against the companies that build actual products? Have your say in Comments.
Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards
Fri, 22 Feb 2013The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
