1973 Toyota Corolla 1.6l Two Door Deluxe on 2040-cars
Denton, Texas, United States
I am selling my 1973 Toyota Corolla Deluxe 1.6L. It has 31,700 miles on it. The car was stored for 12 years in a garage. I purchased the car, removed the fuel tank, carb, head to clean out any old gas. I cleaned out the tank, rebuilt carb, installed new fuel pump, flushed fuel lines, had head rebuilt to remove possibility of gas causing valves to stick. I had new exhaust valves and all seal replaced. New head gasket, new belt, carb kit, intake and exhaust gasket, carb gasket, fuel lines, radiator hoses have all been replaced. I intended to drive this car as it is in excellent shape. Paint is faded and waxing (3 times) did not improve it.
This car was bought NEW by a Toyota salesman and was loaded with every option including dealer installed vinyl top. He drove it to work everyday. His daughter was given the car to drive to and from a local college. She wanted a Mustang so he took it back and continued driving the car to work. He sold the car to my neighbor who only put 1100 miles on it from 1997 to 2001. The car sat in their garage until I purchased it in 2013. The husband died of cancer in 2009. This car has all the tools in the trunk, little sun damage to interior as it faced nose into the garage. I have just put the carb back on and I videoed the car running BEFORE I did anything other than clean out gas. I ran it for an hour with fresh oil then pulled the head off and had it rebuilt for about $230. There was nothing wrong at all I just do not like taking chances with bad gas getting into the valve train. I ordered new head gasket and put it all back together. Such a simple engine to work on. NO timing belts just good old valve train pushrods. I kept ALL parts I changed out. This is an AWESOME well sought out car by collectors and Rally enthusiasts. It runs like a sewing machine and gets 30 MPG or better. A/C was installed at dealer but the old "Thumper" compressor is locked up. I would install a new modern compressor and convert to R134 anyways. Fan runs perfect inside and all controls function. Not a single light was burnt out. Temperatures have been cold but I do have new rear wheel cylinders, and a new master cylinder to replace. The rear master cylinder reservoir was empty but not the front. This tells me the rears are leaking. I have all the parts but not good weather to change out. An easy fix. AM radio works fine. The first owner had a stereo installed for his daughter but the head unit is gone. There are rear speakers but the AM radio does not run them. I have driven this car around the block and it shifts very strongly. I power braked to check for transmission slippage and it just spun the tires. Performed very well. If you have any questions please just send a message. It is a great car and I did want to drive it but have changed my plans. The car has a few small dents and dings but nothing a painless dent repair expert could not get out. Trunk liner is still in the car. The spare tire is missing and I could not locate it. Owners manual, tool kit, and the plastic bag they came in are all present. You can tell this car was only driven to and from work. When I was cleaning out the car and airing out the stale smell from being shut for so long I did notice the logo caps on the seat belts would pop off. I saved them and they can be reglued. It was just old hard tiny glue spots holding them in place. Original floor mats are in the car. Vinyl top will need to be replaced as it is hard as a rock. All trim pieces are in place but the little plastic keepers that the trim snaps onto will need to be replaced. All glass is in place and good. Everything functions. I have a video of the engine running after I installed a new fuel pump. I did nothing else other than put fresh gas in the carburetor to run. The exhaust from header to tail pipe should be replaced. They are cheap mufflers and this one just rotted out from time. New exhaust manifold gasket installed. New thermostat, new fluid. http://youtu.be/FQRTfuOywj8 On Feb-07-14 at 09:18:50 PST, seller added the following information: I am selling my 1973 Toyota Corolla Deluxe 1.6L. Jeremy Clarkson names 10 worst cars for 2015 and 2016
Wed, Aug 24 2016When Jeremy Clarkson, outspoken automotive journalist, ex- Top Gear host, and co-host on The Grand Tour, drives a car he doesn't like he doesn't pull his punches. As Jezza harshly puts it, cars shouldn't just be a form of transportation. These 10 cars made Clarkson's "the terrible 10" list on his column in The Sunday Times for lacking imagination and not giving the journalist "the Fizz," which his list of top 10 cars did. In typical Clarkson fashion, the list is controversial. Some of the cars on Clarkson's list have received praise from other outlets, which shouldn't really come as a surprise since he usually goes against the majority's opinion. Nonetheless, there's at least one car that will catch you off guard. To get a glimpse at Clarkson's reviews and the entire list of cars, head over to his column in The Sunday Times. Autoblog's June 2019 Editors' Picks
Wed, Jul 10 2019Each year we review, test and rate hundreds of brand-new cars, trucks and SUVs. We rate these vehicles using the Autoblog score, giving a select few our Editors’ Pick. Here are the best cars we drove in June 2019. 2019 BMW 8 Series Everyone on the Autoblog staff loves a good grand tourer, so we were excited to get behind the wheel of the revived BMW 8 Series, specifically an M850i Coupe. A good GT needs to be as fast as it is stylish and comfortable, and the new 8 Series delivers. We particularly like the 523-horsepower twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8Â’s copious power and smooth ride quality, even on MichiganÂ’s pockmarked post-winter roads. We dig the interior design, too, though not everyone was in love with the exterior. ItÂ’s not the best-handling car in its class, and doesnÂ’t hide its sizable proportions very well, but itÂ’s still worth a look if youÂ’re looking for a big, fast cruiser. 2019 Ford Expedition Crossovers may be the hottest vehicles on the market, but thereÂ’s still a sizable demand for traditional body-on-frame SUVs like the Ford Expedition. These behemoths offer plenty of space in addition to truck-like capability. We like the Expedition's smooth ride, powerful twin-turbo V6 and sharp exterior design, though the interior can feel a bit cheap, especially on some of the more expensive trims. Adding options quickly puts it into Lincoln Navigator territory, and itÂ’s hard to recommend the Ford over the Lincoln when the latter packs the same capability into a far nicer package. Still, the Expedition is as good or better than the competition in most respects, and thatÂ’s why itÂ’s one of our picks. 2019 Toyota 86 Few cars at any price point are as much fun as the Toyota 86 (and its twin, the Subaru BRZ). We like the 86Â’s balanced chassis and sharp steering, and while itÂ’s not as nimble as its close rival the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the ToyotaÂ’s back seat and trunk make it a more usable vehicle. But while we like the 86Â’s driving position, the rest of the interior feels cheap and dated, especially the infotainment system. We complained about the anemic powertrain back in 2012, and itÂ’s only gotten worse as the years have gone by.
GM outsold VW globaly in first quarter, Toyota reports numbers next week
Thu, 18 Apr 2013General Motors released its first quarter sales figures this week, reporting that it sold 2.36 million cars and trucks worldwide. That figure represents an increase of 3.6 percent when compared to the same period last year. GM's growth was attributed to many factors, including global Cadillac sales that were up 26 percent and Chevrolet posting a one percent increase over last year (this marked Chevy's tenth straight year of record global sales).
Volkswagen came in just behind GM, as the German automaker reported global sales from January through March at 2.27 million vehicles, an increase of five percent when compared to last year. While that number was strong, VW is cautioning that markets outside China and the US, such as those in Europe, are becoming a challenge as economies falter.
Yet to report sales is Toyota, current holder of the global world sales crown (the Japanese company sold 9.75 million cars last year, against 9.29 million sold by GM and 9.1 million vehicles sold by VW). Even though GM and Toyota both say they don't care who sells the most units, it is unquestionably a strong bragging point and sales equate to revenue. That said, Toyota will report its first quarter numbers next week.
