This car is the nicest 82-85 Celica I've ever seen (non-Supra) and it just about never made it to Ebay.

Here is a video of the car right after I got it

And another video of when it was mostly complete

http://youtu.be/T9W_jPRCUtU

I bought this car a short time ago sight unseen from a junkyard, I was going to part it to use parts for another Celica. When this car arrived on a tow truck, it was much better than I expected, dirty and faded outside but when I opened the door, I found a flawless interior and every piece of documentation in the glove box. It was far better than the car I was working on. I immediately called the towing company and inquired about the paperwork for the car, they told me that they had never filed for a certificate of destruction and for an extra fee I could get a clear title to the car, which I did without hesitation.

This car was bought brand new at Sutherlin Toyota in Clearwater, Florida. It is a nicely equipped Celica, 5spd. A/C, cruise control, power sunroof, and factory rear louvers. It has been completely repainted, it has only 117K miles on it and it absolutely drives like a brand new car.

I will walk you around this car and describe it as I know it.

Exterior

When I got this car, it was dirty, faded and had a dent on the side. It has been repainted in the correct Super Red color. It had one dent which was professionally repaired prior to paint. It has zero rust anywhere. All of the lights, plastic, etc. are near perfect. The tires are perfect Bridgestones. The wheels could use some minor detailing and recleared but there are no major flaws. The car looks great, like a new Celica sitting on a lot.

Interior

This car was obviously garage kept and it had window tint, including a tinted windshield, which has all been removed revealing a perfectly flawless and crack free interior. Almost every single piece of every part of the interior is like new, including the factory Toyota floormats and the center armrest. The original cargo cover is intact and works perfectly. Even the original stereo/cassette deck sounds good. Non smoker car. It could use new sunvisors and that's it.

Mechanical

It runs like brand new, drives like brand new, stops great. No leaks, no issues of any kind. Every single thing on this car works perfectly except the drivers side power mirror. Every light, buzzer, and other accessory works perfectly including the power antenna.

Overall

This is an amazing car that was very near to getting crushed. It's cool because it's not a Supra and it's not a GT-S convertible, in my opinion it's harder to find a car like this one and this one is the perfect blend of luxury, options, style and rock solid reliability. This particular car has definitely been well cared for throughout a majority of it's life. Why it was in the junkyard or a police auction, who knows. I believe it was a seizure for drugs or DUI. There are no signs of flood or accident damage and I have a clear Florida title for it.

Of all of the Toyotas and cars in general I've messed with in my life, this one is by far the neatest and has the coolest story with it.  If you have any questions, please call me at 941-720-0300, my name is Jason.

Jay Leno goes offroading with the legendary Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Jay Leno takes a step outside of his cavernous garage for this latest video for a jaunt into the desert to get a little dirty. He meets up with off-road racing legend Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart, who has multiple Baja 500 and 1000 wins in his motorsports career, to play with a Toyota Tundra in the sand.
Unfortunately, Leno doesn't get to interview Stewart too deeply about his long history in racing, but Ironman does talk a little bit about reading the trail while speeding through the desert. In lieu of a great conversation, there is a ton of high-quality footage of the Toyota bounding through the desert.
This clip feels more like a marketing effort than the usual output from Jay Leno's Garage, but it's still great to see Stewart behind the wheel sliding a truck, just like old times. The two of them even take the truck on a somewhat humorous journey at the end of the video.

Judge halts Toyota unintended acceleration cases, triggers time for settlement negotiations

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

So far, the lawsuits brought forth against Toyota for unintended acceleration have gone both ways: the automaker was found not at fault in a 2009 California crash and liable for a 2007 crash in Oklahoma. Both cases involved a Camry and resulted in fatalities. With a big chunk of these UA cases (around 200) set to his the docket of US District Judge James V. Selna in Santa Ana, California, Bloomberg is reporting that the judge has halted the lawsuits until March after Toyota and its lawyers have had extra time to try and settle the cases.
According to the article, Toyota is looking to take care of the cases out of court with an "intensive settlement process." Having already paid out $1.6 billion in "economic loss" suits, this latest settlement process is aimed at the wrongful death and personal injury cases allegedly associated with unintended acceleration. A hearing for the settlements will be held on January 14 with conferences on the matter commencing in February. There is no word as to when lawsuits may start back up if settlements can't be agreed upon.

Couple survives 50-foot fall from overpass in Toyota

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

It doesn't matter the make or model - modern vehicles are technological miracles when it comes to occupant protection. Take this story out of New York City, which involved two people going for a very wild ride in a Toyota Matrix.
Carlos and Raquel Broadbelt were on the Cross Bronx Expressway overpass when they hit a patch of ice while dodging a pothole, sending them hurtling into a guardrail and over the side of the overpass. They fell 50 feet onto the road below. Despite the catastrophic accident - and the mangled Toyota - both driver and passenger walked away. The couple spent a night in the hospital just for observation.
The Broadbelts' miraculous survival has even surprised doctors, who told Dave Carlin from CBS New York they'd never seen an accident like it. Take a look below for the full news report from CBS New York.
