For Sale: 1983 Toyota Celica Supra.

This vehicle is becoming very rare on the streets. It was Toyota's top Luxury Sports car and is loaded with many features which were cutting edge in 1983.

Features:

2.8 liter inline-6 cylinder DOHC engine. 5Speed Manual transmission, Speed-sensitive power rack and pinion steering. Four wheel disc brakes. Independent Rear Suspension. Limited Slip Differential. Interior features factory Recaro bucket seats, 8-way adjustable for the driver. Automatic Climate Control, Power Moon Roof, Cruise Control, basically, Power "Everything".

Current Condition of the Car:

The a/c blows cold, and has a brand new Toyota brand compressor with a fresh charge of freon. The power windows both roll up and down....a little slow sometimes. The Cruise did work a while back..didn't the other day. Could be simple fix ? The power moon roof works, radio annt..goes up and down fine. The radio has been replaced with a Sony CD player and some 6x9 boxes in the luggage area.

The engine runs great and is very smooth and quiet. I drove this car from Washington DC to Tucson  AZ back in September without a single problem! I had it checked out first and replaced the front brakes and did a tune-up at that point. The tires are fairly new BfGoodrich TAs and have lots of life left.  The five speed and the clutch engage solidly and the brakes are fantastic. I got an average of 24 MPG on that trip averaging around 80 miles per hour. (3000 miles in four days!) It is an enjoyable car to take on a road trip.

Modifications:

The exhaust has been replaced from the cat-convertor back and has a Magnaflow twin-tip canister that is just a bit louder than grandpa likes and perhaps not loud enough for teenagers. Also, the car has been lowered about 1.5" on high quality Suspension Technique Springs made in Germany. This car handles very nice and rides smooth without any bouncing around like you might expect a lowered car. It also has an aftermarket cone-style cold air intake setup. No other modifications I know of.

Why I am selling:

I have two of these cars and have chosen to keep the other one. Got to make room in the driveway.

Things You should know:

The paint work is not too good. Good enough for a driver, but not for showing off. The shifter is sloppy, but there is NO issues going in and out of gears. A bushing replacement will cure that problem. The a/c blows ice-cold, but there is some sort of problem in the dash that won't allow the air to come out to the front vents. It blows up on the windshield and down on the floor only. The timing belt and a head gasket were replaced years ago, but I don't know when that was. There is no issue, just good to check that out soon. The car burns a little oil like any 30 yr old car. It doesn't have any clicks or clatters or disturbing noises though, and runs super quiet except for that exhaust out back.

There is nothing to keep you from driving this car home. Even long distances, however: I must say :it is a 30 yr old car and anything could happen. Your choice.

Just a cool classic Japanese Grand Tourer to enjoy  and care for! Please ask any questions through e-bay and if you are serious about the car, you can ask for my number.. Thanks and Good Luck Bidding!

eBay Find of the Day: Harley-Davidson powered Toyota Prius [w/video]

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

Sometimes we pluck cars from the listings of eBay Motors because they're old and interesting, some for being simply lovely, some for rarity and some for pure fun. And sometimes we pick eBay Finds of the Day, because they're hacked apart Toyota Prius' with Harley Davidson V-twin-power; concocted by the same mind that brought you innumerable Jalopnik articles and is partially responsible for the joy that is the 24 Hours of LeMons. This time it's that last one.
A fairly subtle tweet from long-time Jalop contributor and well-regarded grease monkey, Murilee Martin, hipped us to this crazy Frankenstein Prius. Built from the bones of a 2008 Toyota and the heart of a 1986 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883, the motive portmanteau is, well... it's a thing.
Toyota's advanced Hybrid Synergy Drive has been unceremoniously wrenched and snipped out of the engine bay, making room (via an artful hole in the hood) for the towering, bored out V-twin. Or, as the maestro himself puts it:

Toyota to shock with Supra concept for Detroit Auto Show?

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

We've written about approximately 187,000 rumors about a return of the Toyota Supra to the land of living cars. There are a couple of good reasons for this: first, Toyota won't stop dropping hints about a new halo sports car. Late this summer, Toyota sales guru Kazuo Ohara called a Supra successor "one of the options we have" - a comment followed by a hint that there would be "better news" on the subject in the future.
The second reason for all the Toyota tales is, of course, that we all have missed the Supra since its departure from the US market in 1998. So, when a member of the Autoblog team is party to a nudge-and-wink-filled conversation about a new Supra concept headed to January's Detroit Auto Show, we tend to listen up.
A 400+ horsepower hybrid sports car would match up pretty well with the upcoming NSX.

Toyota holds onto crown of World's Largest Automaker

Thu, Jan 22 2015

Although there were hints and allegations that the Volkswagen Group might have taken the global sales crown for 2014, the final tally puts Toyota at the top with 10.23 million sales in 2014. We should really say it keeps Toyota at the top, since that makes three years in a row the Japanese company has been No. 1. Volkswagen Group came in second with 10.14 million units sold, General Motors in third with 9.92 million units sold. This the first time for both Toyota and Volkswagen to pass 10 million sales in a single year. Toyota, including its Hino and Daihatsu divisions, did it with a three-percent increase in company-wide sales on the back of strong demand in Japan and the US. Its strength in developed markets might be the reason it loses the title this year, though; Toyota forecasts a two-percent gain in sales outside of Japan, but a nine-percent drop in its home market because of a new consumption tax that encouraged buyers to purchase before the end of last year. On top of that, turmoil in Southeast Asian economies like Thailand and Indonesia depressed sales in 2014 and they're facing more headwinds. The company envisions 10.15 million sales in 2015. Volkswagen, on the other hand, "has a jet engine strapped to its back called 'China,'" where Toyota is out-of-sorts. Volkswagen Group sales fell 2.9 percent in the US last year, while Toyota gained 6.2 percent here. But Volkswagen roped in 3.7 million sales in China, a 12-percent increase. Toyota enjoyed a huge bump of 12.5 percent in China, but that only got it to 1.03 million units, missing its yearly target and leading to trouble with its Chinese dealers over unsold inventory. With Toyota on the Chinese sidelines while Volkswagen guns for No. 1 status and pledges more production capacity in China – sales there are expected to top 25 million units this year – it looks like this could be the year the VW Group takes over the lead. That would be three years ahead of its original target of 2018. An analyst in Japan said Toyota is more focused on "keeping profitability than chasing numbers" – profitability is an issue for VW right now – so Toyota might not be back at the top "for [the] coming years."
