1977 Toyota Celica St 5 Speed Ra24 on 2040-cars
Naperville, Illinois, United States
Up for sale is a 1977 Toyota Celica ST 5-speed. I hate to sell this car because it is so rare in this condition, but I think it is time to change it up. This is the cleanest original 1st gen RA24 Celica that you are going to find. This car was originally from Las Vegas its entire life until a couple of years ago. This car has never seen a winter and it shows. There is no rust on this car with the exception of a nickle sized area that is just starting behind the right rear wheel and it can be seen in the pictures. Most of these have rusted out over the years making them extremely rare. This particular model has the 2.2L 20R engine mated to a W50 5-speed transmission. This car is completely original with the exception of an aftermarket header. I am including the original exhaust manifold with the sale though should you chose to put that on. The only area that could use some attention is that there is a slight exhaust leak where the header meets the exhaust. Other then that this car runs and drives just like the day it rolled off the showroom floor. I have daily driven this car and taken it on road trips. I would not hesitate taking this on a long journey. You really get into this car and be transported back in time. The interior is in great shape with the exception of a few tears in the front seats and a couple of cracks in the dash. Other than those two items, it is very clean and original. Everything works on the car including the original radio. The brakes and tires are all in good shape. The car was originally yellow and it got painted white at some point in its life. The paint job is in good shape. I would call it a 5 footer. There are just a couple spots with nicks in it. The underside of this car is just a clean as the top side. I have worked for many years as a vintage british car restoration specialist and I know the difference between how a tight old car feels and a loose old car feels. This one feels tight just like new. The doors close ultra smooth. I can keep going on and on about this car because of how rare it is to find one like this. A lot of people say rust free and that changes when you start taking the interior apart. I can assure you that I have been through this car and it is truly rust free with the exception of that one spot I mentioned and is pictured. This car turns heads more than any other car I have owned. Most people do not even know what it is. Also, if you are interested, after the auction I can include a rare set of period 15x8 Work Ewing iii wheels with brand new tires on them. That would be for an additional fee. The wheels that are included in the auction are the steel ones shown on the car. If you have any questions, just ask. Thanks for looking and happy bidding.
If you have fewer than 5 feedback or recent bad feedback please e-mail me first. I have had many problems on here with non-paying bidders. This is a real auction for a real car. Only bid if you have the money to pay. |

Toyota mini doc chronicles Tundra towing Space Shuttle Endeavor
Thu, 21 Mar 2013Toyota has worked up a quick video detailing the brand's involvement in the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour last year. As you may recollect, the California Science Center ran into a hitch when it came to moving Endeavour from LAX to its new home. While most of the route would be covered by a robotically controlled transporter, one portion of the route directed the shuttle over an interstate. Unfortunately, the bridge across wasn't designed to stand up to the weight of the shuttle and its motorized sled.
The Science Center would have to remove Endeavour from its transporter and place it on a lighter, non-motorized sled. That's where longtime Science Center sponsor Toyota came in. As it turns out, the automaker had to prove to the California Science Center that a Tundra could actually tow the massive shuttle, so engineers put on a little demonstration with a stock truck pulling the equivalent weight over flat ground for the same distance. Once the Science Center was satisfied that the Tundra could pull it off, the move was green lit and the rest is history. Check out the short documentary below for yourself.
Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota
Wed, Feb 25 2015It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability. Toyota builds world's first 'outdoor website' for RAV4 promo
Thu, 08 Aug 2013This whole thing started with the premise that Toyota's target RAV4 buyers are people who spend their time cycling, hiking, and generally not in front of computer screens. These people are therefore not able to benefit from the full website experience that Toyota has built for the RAV4. We should clarify that the video below is for Toyota South Africa, and maybe RAV4 buyers there really are the disgustingly outdoorsy ideal that us bacon-eaters are not living up to.
Toyota's agency partner, Hello Computer, set up a 1.8-kilometer track at a cycle park that replicated sections of the automaker's website with real physical displays and interactive feedback. Riders were asked to leave their mouses and hit the trail on a mountain bike to experience the RAV4 Outdoor Website and learn about the vehicle.
That seems like a lot of effort for something that's available on the smartphones of these hyper-active people who aren't in front of computers, but hooray for creatively conquering a problem that didn't exist. Hey, let's not be complete wet blankets - maybe some of the cyclists that ran the Toyota gauntlet got a RAV4 for their to- and fro-ing after the experience. Check out the video of the outdoor website below.
