First time listing a vehicle on Ebay so I want to get it right.  I have a first generation Toyota 4 Runner for sale.  This is a California truck, has only been in Virginia since February of 2012.  Major renovation work completed prior to my purchasing.  New paint job using original color in the last 2 years.  There are some dings and scratches, I will post pictures.  The only rust I can find is some minor surface rust from the scratches.  All new upholstery including the seats and door panels.  The chasis has roughly 301,000 miles on it but the motor has had extensive work done.  In the last couple of months I had the top end professionally rebuilt including new camshaft and rollers.  The shop advised that everything looked great, the timing chain and all the pulleys had already been replaced and in good condition.  The truck burns no oil, no smoke with startup, runs great.  Automatic transmission works fine.  Note, the truck is 4wd but someone at some point removed the front drive shaft.  Since we have never had it off road we didn't even realize it, runs fine without it.  Our shop would charge $250 ($150 part, $100 labor) to put one back on but I recommend checking with your mechanic.  There is an aftermarket stereo in the truck that works great but it appears only the front speakers work.  There are some accessory cables/jacks for extra components.  AC blows cold, heat works fine. I just put new tires on it ($700). In the back the cover for the rear window wiper motor is missing but the wiper works fine as well as the rear window.  The only other thing that I am aware of that does not work is the backlight for the heat and air switch doesn't work, at night you can't see those switches.   Truck currently has Ranchero adjustable shocks and rides like a light weight truck.  I bought this for my wife to use to commute to work and she doesn't like it, so it is time to sell.  I do have it advertised locally so I reserve the right to end early.  Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.  Your are welcome to have it checked out (at your cost), I can provide the name of a couple local shops including the one who has done all of the work. Realize I am not a mechanic and I have described this vehicle to the best of my ability, and keep in mind it is a SUV that is over 20 year sold.  No warranties expressed or implied.   Thanks for looking!!!

2014 Toyota Tundra Platinum 4x4

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

The Toyota Tundra is the automotive version of off-brand Cheerios: it doesn't dominate the market, and it's not the first model people think of when they hear the term "pickup truck."
Ford, General Motors and Ram dominate the segment with vehicles that offer ridiculous levels of towing and payload capacities and models loaded with luxury items and primed with tech-rich engines. The off-brands, meanwhile, are led by the Tundra, which while still accounting for six-figure sales (112,732 units in 2013, up from 101,621 in 2012), sits well behind the F-150s and Silverados of the world. After our first drive of the revamped 2014 Tundra, we came away thinking this truck is a total underachiever, aimed at placating Toyota loyalists and doing little to win over new customers.
But everybody deserves a second chance, and we thought a week's drive in a different environment might lead to a different - or at least a more fully realized - opinion. While the Tundra might not be an industry leader, it still makes it on many truck buyers' shopping lists. So, should you consider this off-brand pickup truck? To find out, we borrowed a top-of-the-line Tundra Platinum for a week. Read on to see what we found.

Lexus LX to get diesel engine?

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

Australian consumers appear poised to get another diesel-burning luxury SUV in the near future, and word is it's coming from Lexus, of all automakers. Sean Hanley, chief executive of the company's branch in Oz, recently told Aussie website Drive that he's "pretty confident" that the new engine for the LX is getting the green light.
Like in the US, the LX in Australia is currently only offered with a 5.7-liter, gasoline-burning V8. However, sales of the big SUV are presently minuscule Down Under, with Drive reporting just 153 LX570s sold in all of Oz last year. Hanley is negotiating with Japan to get the new diesel in hopes of boosting flagging sales. If his efforts are successful, it would be the first diesel engine offered in a Lexus there. Hanley didn't specify exactly which mill the SUV would get. However, given the LX's close relationship with Toyota Land Cruiser, the diesel 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 already available in the Toyota in markets outside of North America seems like a natural choice.
Don't expect the variant to be hopping across the Pacific, though. Lexus spokesperson Allison Takahashi tells Autoblog she has heard "nothing" about an oil-burning LX coming to the US. That's not a huge surprise, though, because neither Toyota nor Lexus offer any diesels in their lineups today. Also, Lexus has only sold 1,981 LX570s through June, which only placed it ahead of the LFA supercar in the brand's sales. It's probably just not worth certifying the engine for such a low-volume model.

Toyota delves into the history of its Land Cruiser

Fri, 06 Sep 2013

One of the longest-produced, most widely distributed vehicles in all of automotive history is also one of its most rugged: the Toyota Land Cruiser. With 60 years of continuous production, 14 different model lines and thousands of variations of the Jeep-like sports utility vehicle, the Land Cruiser became a success worldwide and developed a cult following among enthusiasts here in the US.
We'll be the first to admit that tracing the vehicle's lineage from its humble beginnings as a prototype for Japan's National Police Reserve in 1951 to what it is today isn't an easy task, especially when one considers that the types of Land Cruisers produced traditionally have varied from market to market. For example, the Land Cruiser sold in the US is very different from the US-only 40 series Land Cruiser-inspired FJ Cruiser, which is itself different from the Land Cruiser Prado sold in other world markets.
To cover the Land Cruiser's sixty-plus year history from start to present, someone over at Toyota UK was thoughtful enough to devote a plus-size blog post to it. It's worth a read if you have a spare 10 or 15 minutes - and even if you don't, you can check out our historical gallery above. Enjoy!
