I have a heavily modified 3rd Generation 4Runner for sale. I purchased the vehicle from C.L. Hyman Auto Wholesale in Ashland, VA on 24 June 2009 for $10,600 with 104,628 miles. The VIN is JT3HN86RXY0304364 . It is a 4x4, 3.4L V6 with 5 speed manual transmission and SR5 Trim Level. I drove the truck stock for about a year. I started modifying the truck heavily after returning from a deployment to Iraq in 2010. By that time I put a 3 in suspension lift, budbuilt full belly skids and 34's. I wheeled the truck for about a year and half in Washington state. Prior to my deployment to Afghanistan I decided to have the truck built in a very similar style to Scotty C at Addicted Offroad's black 3rd Gen 4Runner. I commissioned Jason @ Perkins Performance in Puyallup, WA to do the fabrication and some mechanical work. The following is the endstate I was looking for in the build that I provided Jason: "I want a SUV with a lot of utility. I want the ability to go trail riding, over-landing, hauling a trailer, driving on the highway and acting as a daily driver. I am not too concerned about being comfortable, but I know girls will complain. So I want a balance between a rough ride that will benefit me off road and a smooth ride that will benefit me with a comfortable ride on the street. Another concern I have is not sacrificing too much power without hacking into my still decent fuel economy. I know I'm asking a lot but I hope this at least gives you guidance as to what I'm looking for with my 4Runner."

I started with the 4Runner's engine and transmission replaced with a Japanese 3.4L V6 that I installed after my Iraq deployment with only 40,000 on the engine. (I blew a head because I used non-stock spark plugs... never did that again!). Spent $2,000 on the engine, still have the receipt. I also had a low miles 5 speed installed while still on the dealership warranty because the syncros went bad on the original transmission (previous owner didn't know how to drive!) The rear axle was in solid condition, the transfer case had no issues, and the frame was solid, so it was time decide how to build the truck. I had read a lot and found the only way to go on axles without having to find a right hand drop T-Case was have one built. I researched and researched, and determined the best axles on the market for Toyota's were Diamond Axles. I referenced Scotty C's research and knowing I'd be mirroring a lot of his work, I ordered a Diamond Axle (64 WMS, driver side drop, 4.88 Yukon gears, detroit locker, Longfields, hi-pinion 8" Land Cruiser housing with 8* of caster built for a 3 link suspension - $5,200 shipped). I also purchased the Front Range Offroad (parent company to Diamond) full-floating rear axle kit for the factory 3rd gen rear axle housing and upgraded to 4.88 yukon gears, Longfields, retro-fitted a factory TRD e-locker, removed the electric actuator and installed the Chilkat cable actuator. I easily spent over $10,000 on the axles alone. Other big ticket items were the Marlin Crawler TacoBox Dual Transfer Case for the factory T-Case 2.88:1 and the clutch kit for a total of $2,147, a 1978 Ford Bronco power steering gear box, 2001 Toyota Tacoma radiator with transmission cooler used to cool the power steering fluid, and lastly the F-150 gas tank retro-fitted with a chopped and sectioned factory fuel sending unit/pump. As for suspension, we used a Gen Right Offroad "builders kit - 3 link" for the front and 4-link for the rear. Fox Coilover's used up front and LC HD 3" lift coils in the rear.

I have around $39,000 worth of receipts for parts and labor on the truck. The truck is running, and can drive, but requires some work before she is street legal. I had Matt @ Independent4x in Ashland, Va work on the truck, and he said overall the truck is fine, but there are a few things required before driving it on the highway. I have compiled a list of 13 big ticket items to be completed before the truck is highway worthy. The steering linkage needs to be rebuilt completely to improve the "tightness" of the steering and remove deathwobble, the power steering pressure lines need to be worked on, to improve the location on where they are run and mounted, the truck needs limiting straps, sway bars and needs the suspension to be dialed in, I have the all-pro t-case parking brake kit that needs to be modified to fit the truck, the Tacoma VSC speedo sensor, the gas tank level sensor needs to be installed and or tweeked for perfection. I am asking $15,000 and will negotiate shipping prices within the continental US. I have an additional 3.4L V6 and a bunch of extra parts on the truck. There is a possibility I might be selling the plate bumpers separate.

I am selling the truck because I no longer live in an area where I can wheel it like it should be, I can't park it in downtown Richmond, VA because its awesomely huge and I can't finish it because I need to save money to buy a house and pay off some loans.  I wish I still lived in Washington so I wouldn't have to sell it, but life goes on.  Happy Bidding, and I'm jealous of whoever wins Kayla.  She's bad@ss!

Toyota casts off in Ponam-31 motor yacht [w/video]

Sun, 12 Oct 2014

Some Japanese automakers focus purely on cars, while others dabble in all sorts of motorized transportation. Honda, for example, makes everything from motorbikes to jet aircraft. But while Toyota may be known principally for automobiles, it also makes a line of boats. And this is the latest.
The new Toyota Ponam-31 motor yacht is built around an aluminum hull with a flybridge and cockpit rear deck layout, similar to the Carver 32 on which this writer spent his childhood summers. It measures 31 feet overall and is powered by a pair of 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engines derived from the Land Cruiser Prado (known in these parts as the Lexus GX 460) but marinized for nautical application. Toyota has even equipped its new Sports Utility Cruiser with such features as Drive Assist and a Virtual Anchor System.
Toyota expects to sell around 15 units of the Ponam-31 through its network of 49 dealers across Japan, with prices starting at 29,700,000 yen (about $27,500 at today's conversion rates). Scroll down below for a video, along with a press release, meant to show potential customers what's waiting for them.

Autoblog Minute: UAW and FCA avoid strike, Clarkson teases new show

FCA avoids a worker strike, a former Top Gear host teases us with a picture from Amazon's new car show, and Toyota predicts autonomous cars by 2020. Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] FCA avoids a worker strike, a former Top Gear host teases us with a picture from Amazon's new car show, and Toyota predicts autonomous cars by 2020. I'm senior editor Greg Migliore and this is your Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. A UAW strike of FCA was avoided thanks to a zero-hour tentative agreement reached this week. Worker concerns that were renegotiated in the new [00:00:30] deal include adjustments to the two-tier wage scale, health care costs, and production outsourcing. Now check-in with Autoblog as we update our reports on this evolving story. Shooting began on Amazon Prime's new automotive show starring the former Top Gear crew. That's Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. Now Clarkson threw out a tweet from day one of filming on location at Algarve Motor Park in Portugal. The picture features the show's [00:01:00] three stars and crew posing with the holy trinity of hyper cars. That's a McLaren P1, a Ferrari LaFerrari, and a Porsche 918 Spyder. This Prime show is being called Gear Knobs though the name is unofficial. Now if a tweet is any indication of what we can expect, who cares what it's called this is gonna be awesome. (Eds Note: Clarkson tweeted Friday that the show will not be called Gear Knobs.) Toyota predicts drivers could be obsolete on highways as early as 2020, with technology dubbed the Toyota Highway Teammate or THT. Toyota is using a modified [00:01:30] Lexus GS to show what this is capable of. THT is already able to create a driverless freeway car that's capable of changing lanes, making passes and taking curves. Plus, it can keep safe distances from other vehicles. Toyota is currently testing this on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway. Those are the highlights from the week that was. Be sure to check out my full recap this Saturday. And I'll have some added insight on the BMW M4 GTS. For Autoblog, I'm Greg Migliore. [00:02:00] Show Logo Autoblog Minute is a short-form video news series reporting on all things automotive. Each segment offers a quick and clear picture of what's happening in the automotive industry from the perspective of Autoblog's expert editorial staff, auto executives, and industry professionals.

Audi S4 drivers are the most accident-prone, insurance report says

Sun, Jun 25 2023

Culling data from more than 4.6 million automobile insurance applications, researchers at the Insurify insurance comparison marketplace picked a winner — or more to the point, a loser — in its determination of the car model with the most accidents so far in 2023: the Audi S4. Why does the sporty, luxury-class German sedan rank so high (or so low)? The organization found that S4 drivers, piloting a car with almost 350 horsepower, are among those who collect the most speeding tickets, and that they get into accidents at a rate 54 percent higher than the national average. If the S4 isnÂ’t a surprise with an at-fault accident rate of 11.7 percent, consider the “family friendly” brand that appears three times on the Insurity list: Subaru. It is represented by three models, including the turbocharged WRX and XV Crosstrek, and at the better-performing bottom of the list, the Subaru Impreza, with an accident rate of 10.3 percent.  In 2023, 7.6 percent of U.S. drivers were involved in at least one at-fault accident in the prior seven years. For drivers of cars on this list, the average at-fault accident rate was 10.5 percent, meaning these drivers are 1.4 times as likely to have an at-fault accident on record. According to its statement, the Insurity data science team explored key safety features, driver behavior, and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluations to pinpoint possible reasons behind these carsÂ’ high accident rates. Following is the list, counting down to the models with most reported accidents: 10. Subaru Impreza (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.3 percent; MSRP base model): $19,795) 9. Kia Niro (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4 percent; MSRP base model): $26,590) 8. Chevrolet Silverado LD (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4%, MSRP base model): $34,500) 7. Subaru XV Crosstrek (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.5 percent, MSRP 6. Subaru WRX.(percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.7% MSRP base model): $29,605) 5. Toyota GR86 (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.8 percent MSRP base model): $29,900) 4. Hyundai Veloster N (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.9 percent; MSRP base model): $32,500) 3.
