1985 Toyota 4runner Sr5 on 2040-cars
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States
Up for sale is my 1985 Toyota 4Runner SR5. This is the last year in US market the solid front axle was available, and the first year that fuel injection was available. This has both!
I bought this in November of 2011 after many years of looking for the one I wanted. I am getting married next month, so I need to move on to something that sleeps two comfortably. The previous owner was also a Toyota enthusiast and had flown to Florida to buy it in 2010. He didn't want any surprises on his 1483 mile drive back to Wisconsin so he change all of the fluids (brake, trans, transfer, differential, and engine oil), and replaced the entire cooling system (radiator, hoses, water pump, Toyota 2 stage thermostat, and belts). U-joints were greased regularly, as well as all grease-able steering components. This truck was originally white, but is now red. The paint job looks good for a seven year old paint job, and still shines. The body has over 220,000 miles and the previous owner told me the engine was rebuilt about 40k miles ago. The legendary 22re is durable, and has plenty of power. I am getting 23mpg on the highway, and 18 in the city. It always starts, runs, and brakes as it should. Cool options on this truck are the power steering, power antenna, power windows, and factory cruise control...They all work! The rear window works with the key in the tailgate AND the switch on the console. The factory (non-leaking) sunroof is there, with the factory removable sun shade. Altimeter and inclinometer on the dash all still work. There are two things missing: the key pad (outer) part of the passenger door window switch, and the shifter boots. (I wanted to source original factory parts, but haven't made time or need for those two things. I do have the passenger window switch, and the master on the driver door controls the passenger window anyway.) The rear window defroster does not work because the wires in the glass are worn. I haven't cared to source new glass, because this doesn't get driven in the winter. The complete air conditioning system is there, but doesn't work. I'd guess it needs to be charged, but again, you don't need A/C when you can roll your back window down, so I haven't cared about it. The heat works great and the optional REAR heat blows hot too! This beauty is 27 years old, so you're not getting a perfect truck. There are a few little dings but no major dents or damage. Rust is starting over the rear wheel arches, but no holes. The paint shines nicely as the two previous owners took good care of the exterior and interior. (The previous owner's wife had a newer Jeep Cherokee...he made her park that outside, so that his Toyotas could stay in the garage! I take this out on weekends mostly, and it stays in a barn when not in use.) The frame is not rusty at all! It has the factory W56 5-speed manual transmission that shifts nice and smooth with a firm clutch pedal. It also has newer Monroe sense-trac shocks and rides pretty nice for a solid axle truck. It has the removable factory top with factory roll bar. I have never taken the top off. The rear bumper is custom made by the previous owner, and if you look you will notice that it is awesome. It is currently rolling on matching Michelin LTX all season tires that are in good shape. There is a spare that I keep in the rear. I reserve the right to end the auction early as this is also for sale locally. If you have a 4x4 Tacoma that is not red or rusty, but IS an xtra cab or crew cab, I will consider trades (plus cash on my end if your truck is worth it). You don't see many of these, and certainly not in this condition. Here is your opportunity to own a classic 4x4! *EDIT: the Autocheck is showing a 2005 accident. I cannot tell looking at it or underneath it. It drives straight, and I haven't had any problems. |

Toyota confirms 2014 Highlander is in a New York state of mind
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Toyota has confirmed that it will be showing off the all-new 2014 Highlander at the New York Auto Show later this month. It's been a while since we've heard about the updated Highlander, but given just how long this thing has been on the market, we certainly hope that the list of changes will be more extensive than the new 2014 Toyota Tundra that debuted in Chicago last month.
Currently, the Highlander is offered in both naturally aspirated and hybrid versions, with front- and all-wheel drive. We don't expect the formula to change too much, since sales of the Japanese CUV are still steady - well in line with newer players in the segment like the Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder and GM's Lambda triplets (Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave).
We'll have the full skinny on the new Highlander in the coming weeks. For now, scroll down to read Toyota's incredibly brief press blast.
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
Rod Millen to face Monster Tajima in Electric Division of Pikes Peak Hill Climb
Mon, 11 Feb 2013The 91st running of the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb is scheduled to begin on June 30. Like last year's event, the 12.42 mile course - fully paved these days - starts at 9,390 feet elevation and doesn't stop climbing until it reaches an impressive 14,110 feet (the air is so thin up there that the FAA requires pilots to use oxygen at that altitude).
There will be an assortment of internal combustion machines racing to the summit, entries from France, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Sweden, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Belgium, but all eyes will be on the electric showdown between Rod Millen and Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, from Japan. 61-year-old Millen is a familiar name to Toyota racing fans, and he will be driving the Toyota TMG EV P002 (it won the Electric title last year), while Tajima will be again piloting the Monster Sport E-Runner (which was forced out of the field last year after a fire broke out).
Other entrants include Rhys Millen driving a 2013 Hyundai PM58OT and Paul Dallenbach, who will be driving Millen's Hyundai Genesis Coupe (it set the all-time speed mark last year).
